  1. This is really ridiculous a ride is opening for the season with 2 weeks of full operation hours left. The week of Aug 13 they cut back to 6pm close for a week and then are weekends only thru the fall. It's essentially like getting nothing for 2018 for the majority of the peak season to draw people in to the new "shiny thing".

Don't blame the park, this ride was a prototype for a smaller company and it has been having many issues that skyline has been working in. I bet the park and Skyline are both annoyed by all the issues.

The general public is going to blame the park regardless especially when SF as an whole is tight lipped when just about anything goes wrong or breaks down.

  2. Went on superbowl sunday as well. Sign outside superman did say it was closed down for it's annual maintenance. also didn't realize they tore down The Oasis Club bar/snack bar by V2. With how much land is cleared there I suspect that's where Harly Quinn will go.

anyways finally went on Wonder Woman and yeah, that ride is terrifying from the highest perspective and swinging towards the ground but it was incredibly smooth. Felt a bit sick from the minor swinging and rotation when it was settling back down at the station. Clearing the full height of superman was a bit crazy.

  3. I also went on Saturday (key club day), apprently the park was already well opened before the 12pm time due to key club being there. Anyways the only things of note other then abnormally long lines was.

    1. the arctic wolf Tala died earlier that week from pancreatic cancer. The Gray wolf was in the pen still.

    2. Macho Nacho is closed https://imgur.com/NTGpD41 the resturant still had 20oz soda bottles stocked in a fridge behind the counter. No idea why it's closed or if it'll be permanent. The sandwich place also on the dinning pass was closed though with no sign on it.

    3. that weekend and this weekend is dining pass picnics lunch out where they normally have catering. i went to it and there was virtually no one there when I went to eat which was maybe 1pm or around there. Around 35 other dining pass users. the food was just mainly burger's and chicken strips with fries they had some sort of side salad IIRC. The batch of chicken and fries I got was room temperature cold so I got it exchanged for a more fresh batch but even it wasn't nearly as hot as you can get from the chicken place across the bumper cars and original wave swings. However I'm pretty sure you can eat as much as you want there, there were only 2 workers and all they did was keep stocking food into the buffet. Out in the picnic area and the drink fountains it was just guests, never saw a worker watching over the area.

  4. Unless they bring back slaughterhouse pig farms at the action theater I don't really have a interest in paying even more money for attraction passes. I get inflation and all that but the boathouse one has always been meh when I've done it, the shark experience one is alright but really because it's damn near pitch black at times.

The scares in them just don't do it for me. But the scares at pig farms was always the best and generally seemed to have the most dedicated actors.

Also found this in the FAQ of the parks fright fest page. I'm getting mixed messages about garlic here.

  5. Also I noticed they added a bald eagle encloser and bob cat while all the elephants and their signage are gone. Wonder what they'll do with the elephant space now.

They've had the eagle and bobcat for a while now, they just aren't always out.

Love the before and after pictures! And laqueefa, your pipe dream is great. They sometimes use that area for overflow parking, but isn't it also used for the fair? I've never been to SFDK during the fair in question, so I don't really know what they use and don't use.

I've known they had the eagle back in at least 2014. Just surprised they made new enclosures for it, no idea when the park got a bobcat though I just thought they only had the cougar('s). I'll be interested to see if anything happens in that area of the park or if they are just going to turn it into a lowkey zoo.

I might be mistaken about the bobcat, I seem to remember seeing one at some point at SFDK but I could be wrong. Maybe it was in one of the shows and now it's viewable at other times too?

I don't know what you mean by eagle enclosure. They have had an open air area where the eagle is tethered to a branch and employees are there to answer questions about it.

There's a new eagle enclosure right next to the bobcat's. It's directly behind where they used to do the elephant show, the park was also doing some animal showcase in the elephant show spot last Saturday. I'll get a picture of the place next time I visit.

Also that monkey madness or whatever it's called. I'm kinda sad that it's more fun then Pacific Rim. I did love the line and pre-show of Pacific Rim though and I still think bringing back Dinosphere would be best.

  7. Went to the park today to get my passes processed. Worked perfectly with being scanned off my smartphone and we got our 2018 free refill cups at the cartoon kitchen and used the freestyle machine instantly. No issues getting our lunch snack or dinner.

The Joker didn't open until about 11 am despite some worker riding it around 10:50 if not before that. Wonderman opened later then it, not sure when. Superman also didn't open at 10:30 exactly and right after it's first public riders it went down again for about 8-12 mins, I assume someone just complained about some sound or maybe dropped something while riding or maybe someone just had some protein sorta spill.

V2 also started running, I figured it would of been under refurb since it looked taken apart in Captain Lee's ride teaser. Also I noticed they added a bald eagle encloser and bob cat while all the elephants and their signage are gone. Wonder what they'll do with the elephant space now.

PS: the fish and chips place in the food court area was really slow at 4:16pm to at least 5:30-ish and the fish kinda sucked. Really should of just gone with kickin chicken for dinner.

  8. At SF Discovery Kingdom

Kong, Daredevil Chaos Coaster and shockingly V2. I enjoy the ride but I always sit in the middle of the train so I get stuck literally sitting on my shoulders sometimes since the stall/rollback happens when i'm either vertical or nearly. I'd sit on the front or back but the spikes honestly scare me. I don't want to be the highest up the rear spike and I wouldn't care for nothing being in front of me if I rode the front. Thankfully I don't need to feel too bad given how often it's down.

  9. Ending up buying the gold pass and dining at SFMM... 5 minutes later I get a code from SFGAM (pass I bought last year) with the renewal price code. I didn't realize it would work on a different parks page but when I made a second fake order it worked to save even more money. Oh well.

SFMM is also selling the all season flash pass for $299 good for the rest of this year as well. That's an awesome deal for locals considering they will be open 365.

You can also add a single day haunt pass for the flash sale for 16.99 if adding on to your pass.

So I spent a lot of money, but... looking forward to my first SFMM trip in about 13 years!

Edit: can anyone who processed their pass already shed some light on the one time use skip the line pass? Restrictions on the ride? Dates it can be used?

don't feel bad about missing the promo code. I didn't even have a 2017 pass this year and for some reason six flags gave me one in the SFDK newsletter about the park and it's 2018 ride. however I heard from a user on SlickDeals that the code only knocked a dollar off the season pass for them as opposed to "new" customers.

  10. The new 2018 pass deal is pretty great. About 150.50 for a pass that grants weekday parking admission to Water World as well as lunch, snack and dinner there along with the soda bottle. Of course all other Six Flag theme parks are included on that since it upgrades you to the premium dining pass. Oh and you don't have to buy 4 or more to get the maximum savings hooray.

Also does anyone know if this dining pass information is accurate? https://static.sixflags.com/website/files/sfdk_dining-pass-brochure.pdf

The last time I had one they had the non-panda express Chinese food place on the menu as well, did they remove it?

  11. ^I agree with you about the need for children/family rides. After getting Superman, Dare Devil, Joker, and Wonder Woman all within 5 years, they could really use something for the families. I'd love to see a new family coaster at the park that doesn't go upside-down, but I doubt that will happen next year.

A Justice League would actually work well at this park, I think, nestled in their growing DC area, but I know Six Flags isn't planning on adding any in '18. I really hope it isn't a Free Spin, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I might actually be ok with a Free Spin in all honesty, even though that's kind of a basic addition. But I definitely agree they need to focus on the kids- the Looney Tunes area is really starting to look aged and could use a refurb. I really want us to get that Justice League dark ride, but at this point is just wishful thinking imo.

i'm wondering how much work and money it would cost to referb the action theater into justice Leauge. I'd miss salughterhouse farm but I don't think they did that in 2016.

  12. The best garlic fries I ever had was at California Great America when paramount owned it. Six flags discovery Kingdom never had it right after they got rid of Gordon bersch stands. Multiple times this season I tried their waffle fries with garlic/parsley mix and every time at least 15% of the waffle fries was overcooked to the point of them being pure crunch and honestly inedible.

Best theme park specific food?? I've said it before, and I'll say it again. . . Basically anything that comes from a Silver Dollar City. . . like this:

That all looked good. Really good.

  13. I assume in like 5-10 years all the Halloween stuff will be canceled in Californian amusement parks. There was that show at Universal a few years ago and now this.

The newest haunt at Discovery Kingdom is actually based on a mental asylum unlike this VR thing. How long before that's shut down too? Hell, I bet someone at some point in time will be "Triggered" with fear by the mere sight of a rollercoaster since they have a fear of them. So the state government will require massive facade walls built around parks or just order their removal.

  14. ^^$30 for a wristband?? That's ridiculous!! SFDK FFest really isn't that good, why would they bump up the price and remove Haunts? IIRC I don't even know if Boathouse is even back, and Pig Farms was the best that is now gone. They stopped doing the one at Whitewater. The wristband was like $25 last year I believe and I think the park was only open till like 10 so we barely got through each maze once. Come on SFDK, you can do better. We got tickets to Horror Nights for $35 last year. There will still be people who go but I think this will drive a lot away. I always felt Feight Fest had a lot of untapped potential if they invested more into it.

The White Water one was the nearest thing to a maze we'll ever see at the park too. I tried it during the 2014 season and that was the last time they did it. I had to be told twice which direction to go since either there were few signs or they were turned around or simply on the floor as they were paper held by tacks into the plyboards.

Still not as good as the salughterhouse farm. I always had a good time on that one that I went trough it 2-3 times each year.

  15. so if I recall right haunted house passes were cheaper in 2015 then they are this year. https://www.sixflags.com/discoverykingdom/store/haunted-house-pass 30 dollars for the standard wristband and 40 for the VIP.

With them taking out slaughter house farms which was my favorite in 2015. I really don't know if it's worth it to me. Carnevil, the boathouse and shipyard of the dead have never been that good IMHO. there's one new haunt this year an asylum themed haunt and it's all the way towards the back of the park far removed from the others. It would be soly up to it and nightmare manor to make it worth it at all IMHO.

Checked magic mountains site and its 15 and 30 dollars there for wristband and VIP wristbands.
