Roller Coaster Public Transit
Midgetman82 replied to LuminousAphid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This would probably be really good for mountainous or sloped areas. Especially if they used power to get the car uphill, and magnets to steady the speed going downhill like what you find on Intamin coasters or drop towers. -

Whenever I see a new photo update, my mind has a hard time trying to grasp at the reality that this is at Holiday World... not that other park up in Mason, Ohio. Looks so amazing! -

Awesome to see B&M get another wing rider to present at the Expo this year. I wish I could attend to see it for myself. -
What is the most G-Force you have pulled?
Midgetman82 replied to XYZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Positive: Goliath at SFMM on the helix. Sustained g-forces, woo! Negative: A toss-up between Maverick for strongest amount of airtime, and Lightning Run for most amount of ejector airtime. (Leaning towards Lightning Run though). Lateral: The Legend at Holiday World. -

^Getting a little patriotic, aren't we? Don't most foreign countries refer to the U.S. as "the states," or does it differ? There's lots of people who fly in from different countries I see attending Holiwood Nights, and many of them are return visitors, so I'm sure they'll have a pretty good time anyways! Hope you have fun! -
Stand-Up coasters= A failed concept?
Midgetman82 replied to fraroc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^That'd be nice, but current B&M inverts can't even gain the new trains Banshee has due to it being wider than normal invert trains. I'd suspect the trains for those would be too wide as well. Of course, I'd love for them to prove me wrong on this. Those seats look so nice!! -

Normally the worst experience I get are when I hit a park on a peak day. SFMM on a Saturday during summer break, 2009, and Kings Island this year on opening day. Barely got any rides in on those days. Apart from that, I guess I should bring up some of the stuff that occurred within the first day of Kentucky Kingdom's opening. Between morning and noon, everything was running fairly smoothly. But by afternoon, many of the local kids started coming into the park and making scenes all over the place. The biggest issue was line jumpers. They were everywhere, and happened right in front of me many times. The queue for Deep Water Dive, Lightning Run, FearFall, etc. I was in line for a Dippin' Dots stand later in the day and there were two parties in front of me to order their treats. A woman with her two kids sits on a bench nearby, hands their kids some money, and the two kids (I kid you not) scooted their way in front of the party that was in front of me. The mother of the party in front of me began slowly looking around, obviously to see if anyone had seen what the two had very obviously done. By the time she reached me, I told her "yeah, I saw it..." She told me she was about ready to raise hell about it. I mentioned that I'm typically a patient person and would rather not raise commotion since I'd eventually get my ice cream anyways (Not saying I'd let anybody in front of me, I have my limits). Of course she said that she still had a problem with it. Eventually, though, nothing happened and everybody got their ice cream. Since then the park brought in police officers to roam the park along with park ambassadors, and the final movement was installing some security cameras and putting up signs stating that they're in use. I've also seen jumpers try to cut in line for Lightning Run, and shortly after get told to leave by park ambassadors.

Stand-Up coasters= A failed concept?
Midgetman82 replied to fraroc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oddly, I've only ever had a bad experience on Mantis. After a full-day's walking Cedar Point and saving a night ride on it (thanks to the nearly non-existant line) put an enormous amount of pain in my calfs the whole ride. Glad they're going the floorless route. Chang and Riddler's Revenge were awesome coasters in my book, although Georgia Scorcher gives them run for their money with its tighter layout. Georgia Scorcher is the stand-up coaster I hear the least amount of complaints from. I remember trying Shockwave at Kings Dominion bracing for dear life, but ended up not being as bad as people had touted it for being. A few pumps here and there on the final stretch, sure, but I enjoyed it a little. -

^^I wouldn't doubt that at all. I bet they plan to do most internal (indoor) work by winter of next year. -

Most Photogenic Coasters
Midgetman82 replied to darklingscribe's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's plenty I could probably list that some photographers made look good through a camera lens, but I agree with the one that mentioned Mean Streak. That ride doesn't look big only in pictures. That ride is just plain massive, and is very pleasing to look at. Too bad it's a bit of a snore-fest to ride (though I apparently experienced it on one of its better days during Coastermania last year, so I can only imagine how it runs on normal operating days). Other than that, I'd like to send an honorable mention to Manta (or basically any coaster at SeaWorld Orlando). The interaction with the coaster above the sidewalk and with the scenery is visually impressive on its own. -
Announcing "Skyline Attractions"
Midgetman82 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can, for some reason, see a lot of smaller parks buying this up. Holiday World comes to mind, as well as certain Six Flags parks for some odd reason (probably because Six Flags does carnival atmosphere better than anyone else). -

Don't worry, I was mocking B&M for using different names when it's basically the same element. They did it on Fury 325 as well, finding a name for each turn: "high speed s curve" ; "overbanked curve" ; "high speed bancked curve"... pshh, same thing. I was just re-watching the POV and yeah, they're pretty much the same. I know it doesn't really matter but I don't see why they come up with all these names? Just to look fancy? It would be clearer if they used the same. (why do they call some of their corkscrews giant flat spins? ) More variety, of course! So many flavors, so few chocolate-dipped waffle cones. -
Today's Burning Question!
Midgetman82 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If the question was between Cedar Point and Magic Kingdom, then obviously I'd go for Cedar Point. But for the entire Walt Disney World resort (even just the parks by themselves) against Cedar Point? Yeah, I'd rather fly south and get a park hopper ticket. -
I've experienced: 100% of Atlantis' Aquaventure water parks. 100% of all B&M's in the state of Florida. 100% of all Chance Rides Hyper GT-X model coasters. Can't think of any more that aren't dumb ones.

Who's your park's chain RIVAL??

Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World. Things seemed to have gotten heated again once KK got back in the game. -
Going to parks alone?
Midgetman82 replied to alilstronger's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My preferred pick for going to a park with groups is somewhere around 3 or 4, mainly because me going with one other person typically comes to be a coaster geek and a GP trying to find a middle-ground on what to do next. A 3rd would tend to be the deal breaker, and a 4th would be 'just right' for a group to fill a coaster car (or water slide raft) together. Any more, and it had better be a party (like a TPR event!). -

^^ Take me there, please... that powder... There's never enough "real" snow in the region I live in. *Ahem* I'm not surprised at how many of you posting here ski/snowboard, but I am a little surprised at the amount of snowboarders in particular. I am also one and own my own snowboard, but the closest hill to me is a 2 hour drive north towards Cincinnati. So my plans? Pray I hit a ski hill (resort), pray I hit at least one indoor water park (there's something in Vermont I'm interested in that would satisfy both), pray I get to go down to Florida once or twice, and pray my semester grades end with something close to straight A's.
