I would go ahead and stay at one of the Disney Hotels, I checked pricing and it's really not that bad if you're there during a non-peak or non-holiday time.

The Okura looks closer, but I believe that it's doors were farther away. It was also one of the hotels that couldn't guarantee that there would be someone who spoke english there.
As for other stuff to do...I mean we're not into the shrines and gardens and stuff, but walking around the Shinjuku and Akihabara areas were very cool!

The Hilton is the best location for the "non-official" Disney hotels! You literally walk about 5 minutes from the front of your hotel to the Monorail Station, hop on the Monorail and get to the parks. VERY EASY. You could walk to the parks but it would probably be about 30 minutes!!! They're big!

Pompeii is good...it's basically a "shoot the chutes" with elaborate theming. Definitely a must do. Keep in mind they're also opening up some sort of "Spiderman Type" Dark ride...it's not themed to spiderman but it's that sort of ride system from what I understand.
You'll have fun! It's a nice park...not one that I visit more than once every 5 years, but still really nice!

Yeah, the visuals are nice on the front seat of an inverted but for some reason I found the front of Silver Bullet really rough as compared to the back.

I would bring extra cash with you since many places in Japan do not take credit cards. Luckily most of Disney does, but in case you have any 'contingency' you should have extra cash.
How much money to bring? Well, that depends on where you're staying. You're going to need money for transportation each day (more if you're staying farther away), money for food, drinks, admissions to other parks, etc.
Do a budget to figure out how much you need.

Looks a lot like Dragon Blaster at Schlitterbahn...the public will LOVE this ride. I hope they manage to have better capacity than most of the other blasters!

If you mean Sega Joypolis and LaQua...you can easily do them on the same day, but keep in mind if it's raining at all you might not get Thunder Dolphin and Linear Gale at La Qua.
As for Japanese, you most certainly need to learn probably about 50 - 100 words to get buy. The vast majority of people over there (including at Disney) do not speak any english.
Learn polite conversation, numbers, how much, that one, etc.
I recommend the "Japanese For Dummies" book. It was very helpful and comes with an audio cd so you can actually hear the pronounciation.

Just heard that Epcot will be closing at 3pm on May 5th for a Disneyland 50th Press Event...
I don't totally get it...I do believe it makes even less sense than closing down Disneyland for a whole day!

I know that some of our friends used Priceline.com for their hotel in Tokyo. It was very nice, had english speaking staff, and was about a 20-30 minute train ride to Disney. Maybe you could try that? What sites are you having trouble with? We found that most of the Japanese sites had english ones or we could use babelfish to translate.

Just because a ride sucks doesn't mean you don't want to ride it! Plus, one man's trash is another man's treasure!
Yeah, Dodonpa sucks...but I would probably wait 45 minutes for it next time I'm there! It sucks in one of those "I can't believe it ways"
