  1. One of the issues with yellow jackets could be due to staffing shortages and things (tables, trash cans, etc.) not being cleaned as often as in the past. When I worked at a park we had one year we had a MASSIVE yellow jacket problem, and it was because the manager in charge of park services that year was lazy AF and didn't have them spray the insides of the trash cans with bleach water every few days like the previous manager had. I had to deal with guest complaints about them multiple times a day.

I've never seen this at any other park so...do the people of Tennessee really like hairbands as lawn ornaments or something? Please...someone explain?

It's definitely not just a Dollywood thing. The Beast has a ton of them you can see going up it's first lift too. And I do agree with you on Wild Eagle. I don't know what it is about that thing but I love that ride.

  3. ^Well that also depends on the laws in the state too. For example in some states (like Alabama) if a bartender over serves someone and they drive off and hit and kill someone the victim's family can (and will) sue the drunk person driving, the bar/restaurant that over served them, and the bartender(s) that did the serving. Sure you're going to get the most money by suing the company, but that won't stop a lawyer from including the low wage worker too.

I still wouldn't rule out a Six Flags announcement day. SFFT also announced Wonder Woman separately from the other park announcements.

Yeah but that was because CGA was announcing RailBlazer before the big Six Flags announcement day was scheduled and SFFT moved theirs since WW was the firs Raptor coaster. Jeffery Siebert did say a couple weeks ago there would be no big announcement video from Six Flags this year.

I kinda saw it coming when I heard there was a shipment from B&M coming to SFFT even though it turned out to be replacement parts.

Something tells me that Mr. Siebert might have been lying about the replacement part thing. Oh rather, trying to throw off the scent 🤣

Great addition. It's been 15 years since I've been to SFFT so maybe next year needs to be my next visit. I really wish Jeffery Siebert could have a bigger role at SF. Something tells me he could have a similar impact on guest experience as what Matt Ouimet had at CF.

These river rapid rides ran like 20 something years without issues and now I feel like its a yearly thing

I mean in 1999 alone you had a raft flip at SFOT that resulted in a death and one at Visionland within days of them opening their ride. Hell that ride alone had a boat flip at least 4 times from 1999 until it closed in 2011 (although one was said to be the result of off duty employees jumping on the raft trying to flip it).

if you're not staying at Breakers - so no option to go back to your own room -  and you need a "stall" (to put it politely). . the ONLY decent option in CP proper:

the Restrooms right next to the Police Station.

those seem to be the only ones that are regularly maintained very well, and are the most semi-private due to the design (at least in the men's room - can't speak to the women's).

I think it's Miss Keat's Smokehouse in Frontiertown that has bathrooms in the back of the dinning room which consists of a single toilet and the doors lock. They are around the corner inside, so I don't think many realize they are back there.

I have been the one person running a coaster by themselves. It's not easy, but definitely doable on an early season weekday at a park.

Same. And the coaster had foot pedals for the restraints that were on the opposite side of the train as the control panel. In my time there we also had several flat rides where we required two operators when I started but over time they made modifications to the rides/queues so they could be operated by a single person.

KI is our clear winner until SDC builds one more home run and starts selling beer. I hope they see the beer sales at KK and offer a few limited places serving alcohol, with 'no alcohol past this point' restrictions, to keep the park family friendly.

I mean it's 2021...even Cracker Barrel sells beer and wine now.

It's so weird to me to see parks apparently having people to be open but needing to cut back hours. Times have definitely changed from when I worked in a park. When we had Friday night concerts they would usually end about 9 with a scheduled 10pm closing. We were frequently told (at like 9pm) we were staying open an extra 30 minutes- an hour if the concert drew a huge crowd to avoid having everyone hit the exit road at the same time.

If I ran a park that operated for 9 1/2 months out of the year in a place where it snows and I was adding another hotel but a lot of the draw is already indoor shows I would just go on an indoor-ride-building-binge and then go year-round like BGW.

I mean they already operate most of their rides in December anyways. Wouldn't be much of a leap from them to do it now, but a few more indoor rides wouldn't hurt.

  11. Add me to the list of people that think KI is the real star of Ohio. Yes I love CP too, but so much of that park is just a bland concrete jungle it feels like. Plus the crowds have always been more manageable at KI compared to CP and my days at KI in 2011 had the best operations I have EVER seen at a park. Here's a pic from that trip of Diamondback where one train is heading into the splashdown and the train behind it is cresting the lift. Sad is seems like recent CF training will prevent this from happening again.

  12. Heads up for anyone going to HoliWood Nights. The park announced earlier today in the HoliWood Nights group on Facebook that Thunderbird is having issues and will probably be down through the weekend. To help compensate they are going to allow attendees a return visit any day later this season, will be keeping other rides on ERT open longer, and if you didn't purchase the all day Friday ticket you can now enter the park at 3PM in stead of 4:30PM.

The one exception to this was the crew on Intimidator as they were really slow and couldn't have cared less.  Part of the problem was the crew and part was they would have to check and recheck seats on every single train multiple times.  I started timing dispatch times at one point and they were averaging between 4 and 5 minutes between trains.

Just curious, but what was causing them to have to check and rec-check seats?

    Fireworks and

    early closings

    since

    1972

I've been to KI when they had 10PM fireworks like 6 times and they never closed the lines early. I always timed my rides on other coasters so I could get in line for The Beast at like 9:50. The ride is usually already shut down for the show, but they allowed people to get in line right up until 10. About 15-20 minutes after the show ends they would usually get the all clear to re-open and they would cycle everyone in line through for the last ride of the night.

Actually one of those nights they actually got a call that they could NOT reopen for some reason and instead they told us the park had kept Diamondback running so we could get one last ride on it.

  15. The first time I saw the fireworks at KI it was on (I think) a Tuesday night in August 2011, and my friends and I were all like "That's it? Maybe just save the money and do good shows Friday-Sunday."

Closing rides for fireworks is understandable, but when you've been closing your lines at closing for years/decades and you suddenly start closing them early, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
