Good evening everyone,
Jarvis has posted his freaking awesome trip report, so I don't think i can top that but here are some of my pics from the day.
Carowinds rolled out the red carpet for us
You know... I think I'll follow that sign.
Lunch was provided and it was amazing! The entertainment they had was freakin' awesome!
The new ride/area also features a giant fireplace which will be a great thing to have to warm up to in the winter!
Make sure to add Carowinds - Copperhead Strike to your calendar of things to do for 2019. You will not be disappointed.
Around the park, they are getting the areas cleaned up and ready to open.
We couldn't play today, but we will try when we come back!
The park has gone all out to create a fun and immersive queue experience.
The Mountain Gliders are a nice addition to the area. (Formerly known as the Woodstock Gliders from the Camp Snoopy area)
The new restaurant for the area.

Did anyone ask or did the park mentino if they were gonna plant any tree on the buffer between dragon flyer and thunderhead?
They did not mention that specifically. But they did say they have tons of trees to plant before it opens. They are spending over a million dollars on landscaping for this area.

Lastly some Dragonflier love.
This coaster will be about 63 foot tall and reach speeds of around 45 mph. There will only be one train on this coaster.
Thank you to Dollywood for their hospitality and time for showing us around this amazing area. We can not wait to get back and see it completed. This is something that you do not want to miss!

Below are photos of our construction tour of Dollywood's new Wildwood Grove area.
Dollywood has gone all out on this area to provide a new exciting, interactive area for families.
Some quick facts:
$37,000,000 project
$1,000,000 towards landscaping
5 acre expansion
Tentative opening = May 2019
Entrance walk way from Timber Canyon into Wildwood Grove. Before this area opens, there will be a log feature that you will walk through that will "transport" you into the new area of Wildwood Grove.
New quick serve restaurant on the right as you enter the new area with a giant seating area next to it. COVERED!!!
New quick serve restaurant under construction.
Treetop Tower ride
Restroom facility. This is one of 2 facilities for this area. That will be fantastic in the busy season!
Sycamore Tree Swing (Pirate Ride)
Back view of the Dragonflier coaster
This expansion will give you a new prospective of Thunderhead. As you can see here, Thunderhead received some love this off season.
The giant building (Hidden Hollow) you see will be a climate controlled building featuring a big soft play structure and alot of seating.
Dragonflier
Patrick Brennan, art director for Dollywood's new Wildwood Grove area, talks about the giant Wildwood tree that will tower over the area. Behind him is the base of that structure. It will feature over 600 illuminated butterflies and other features.
Black bear trail ride
These are some very cute vehicles for the Black Bear Trail ride. Adults will be permitted to ride with children.
Frogs & Fireflies bounce ride.
Prototypes of the butterflies that will appear on the Wildwood Tree.
Mad Mockingbird vehicles. We love the paint job on them.

A weird question for everyone...
Do you know if Dollywood still does their Dolly Dollars? I think they stopped them but was curious. I've got tons of them from all the way back to 1995. Anyone else collect them?
-
"Dolly's Tree of Many Colors"...?
That gets my vote.
-
Im getting pandora vibes from this. So im assuming its a massive man made tree correct?
Correct. The tree currently is a big hole in the ground. This is their version of Avatar... Wildwood : Land of Dolly lol jk

1st time going to Sea World San Antonio on Tuesday, any tips? We won't be doing the waterpark.

Theme Park Review was invited to attend the media day at Dollywood for Wildwood Grove and let me say, they were fantastic. Wildwood Grove is the largest expansion EVER for the property and will feature over 11 family experiences.
You will enter the area by entering through a fallen log in the Timber Canyon area right by the Mystery Mine entrance. Once through the log, you will be transported to the wild, mystical world of Wildwood grove.
I hope you enjoy the pictures below and please let me know if you have any questions.

New Wildwood Grove teasers up on Facebook/Twitter. No new info.
We will be at Dollywood on Friday for the annoucement and will try to facebook live it straight to you!
-
Well, I know that I am just talking crazy here, but what if the Wildwood Grove has something to do with Dolly's new netflix series and they are just tricking us, or if Wildwood Grove is just the name of one attraction (possibly indoor) of this new area. But who knows... we will see on the 3rd!

We have an indoor family entertainment center at the Wilderness resort in sevierville that is open to the public. It has a ropes course, rock wall, drop ride, giant soft play ground, mini bowling, laser tag, laser maze and mini golf plus over 90 arcade games.Pulled the trigger and bought my season passes this morning for the family and I, once it became apparent that Dolly doesn't really "do" Black Friday or Cyber Monday. [emoji38]Only a little over two weeks, and we're going to be spending five nights down in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Obviously I don't anticipate spending the entire time at Dollywood, and the kiddo and I already know about the mountain coasters, but are there any other things in the area that you folks would highly recommend for family fun with a six-year-old and two--year-old in tow? (I'm guessing the moonshine tours probably frown on the rugrats.)

Don't know. The building could be bigger than it looks. I mean look how small back porch theater would look in a rendering. Lol
When dolly starts talking right after the preview view you can see an concept image on the stage screen of the old river battle station and the grounds around it as the plaza. Here is Dollywoods 2018 AnnouncementIs there a pic anywhere of the new "Wilderness Pass Plaza"? Dolly mentions it in the Live vid, but they never show it.

Thanks! The way she worded it, it sounded like the performances would be held at the new Plaza, but that rendering doesn't look like a "theater" venue. Will the performances be held at the Celebrity Theater?

Adventure Mountain was a great attraction. It was sold and is now at R adventure park in Logan, Oh. Not all the course has been assembled there and it was rebuilt in a different configuration at parts. Still cool though. Glad to see it didn't go 100% to waste.I'm not a huge fan of those "splash battle" type of rides so I feel no loss for it leaving. That being said, isn't it sort of weird that newer attractions in that part of the park haven't lasted very long? There are three attractions (two of them were pretty major additions when they first opened) that didn't last a decade: Adventure Mountain (which I actually still like better than Firechaser, just being honest), the Topple Tower, and now River Battle. Those last two I don't really care about, and while I don't expect parts to cater to my own personal preferences, it is a little odd that so much money has been spent on attractions that didn't have legs.
Oh well... Hopefully it will be replaced with something much bigger, better, and have longer staying power!
I agree. Certainly seems like poor planning. I also have a bit of anger towards the removal of Adventure Mountain as it was unique, different, exercise, and amazing!!!

I remember reading years ago that the upper train loop is about the same size as the lower loop. So we could see 2 maybe 3 new areas in the future of dollywood. So now that we know RB is closing the week after next, what would fit in its footprint realistically? Also looks like Dollywood is trying to subtly reply to everyone that's upset by the removal. One woman actually said "go ahead and put in another roller coaster that puts the lives of others at danger". I just rolled my eyes. The announcement says "We have a number of innovative ideas" and then it goes on to say "to help the park prepare for these" which is why the are closing it..
To me "a number" means several things are coming.. "to prepare" means RB has to close before they can even start their next idea..
Remember, when they announced their 10 year plan they said it would include the start of their new area expansion.. at that time they said the expansion was to be up the train route and that there will be a lot of work involved to get there.. new infrastructure, new utilities.. everything.. (find some old interviews about the 10 year renovation and you will see what I mean)
Earlier this year Dollywood sent out a survey about theme ideas for a "new area"
Look in this photo at the close proximity of RB to the train loop service road. What better place to expand to their new area than this! Retaining wall is already there, service road is already there which can be used as part of the new area.. I'm sure the new area will be another "loop" like Dollywood has been building so the exit/entrance of the other side of the loop can be the service road beside firechaser
I'm like earnirocker and believe this is the start of their expansion and RB was just in the way of it
