Carowinds Discussion Thread

^^Must be (for the sake of me hoping that people in Charlote aren't rubes) a regional dialect thing. -
I'd love to agree with you on this, I really would. However, this is not the arguement the PARK is trying to make with this ride. This isn't a family style, or wild mouse or bobsled type of ride that would be more family enticing. This is a 156ft, 65 mph, 7 times inverting steel beast. Now I agree that the park is trying to attract families and in doing so, they are gearing their agenda to getting them to come back. But to throw Scream in that category I think is unfair, seeing it was built circa 2003 simply to stay neck-and-neck with Cedar Point for 16 coasters (at that time) In fact it's the only ride in the park that still uses "Six Flags Magic Mountain, the Xtreme park" in its auto spiel. Nothing about that ride says "family friendly" It's just not that good for what it is and its supposed to be. It's sole intention was to be a major addition to its thrill category, and it lacks in that category. Is it bad? No. But I also see nothing wrong with admitting it's just not a good thrill ride. There are better floorless coasters out there (Batman:DK, Batman:KF/Dominator, Superman:KC, Kraken to name a few) and Scream can't hold a candle next to any of these rides. To sum it up, Scream just isn't a good ride for what it's marketed to be That doesn't mean it's not fun, nor does it mean its "bad". It's just not that "MAX" thrill that Six Flags rates it as.

^Other than a free tcket I got back in like 1994 for getting good grades (Knott's use to give these passes to schools and the school would give them to you if you made the honor roll. good for the student and their family. Cedar Fair firmly put a stop to that.) the first time I had REALLY been to Knott's was 2004, so the only thing i can really remember was 1.Xcelerator's original uniforms (which they ditched prior to me working there) and Silver Bullet's construction.

I don't think people criticize Scream because of its surrounding area (if its parking lot coasters you hate, then point out Goliath an Colossus) I think its a mixture of several things. The layout/intensity factor is rather lackluster for a park that is loaded with intense rides. Every MAJOR coaster packs some type of punch, whether it be Riddler's last corkscrew, Tatsu's pretzel, Goliath's helix, taking the tunnel, X's 1/2 twist, or Deja Vu's first drop, Scream doesn't have any amazing characteristic to it that makes the ride stand out. Then its located in the far corner of the park with nothing else to draw people back there but another low ridership coaster and a Ben & Jerry's, which I'll venture to say gets longer lines then the two rides combined. On top of the layout being less than intense, it offers riders little difference in ride quality than what say, Viper provides, which IMO is a far better sit down looper than Scream, despite the 13 years of operation it has over Scream. Overall. It's not a good ride. You an add fire, music, and cardboard cutouts of "who the hell is THAT guy?" status superheroses, but it's not gonna change the fact that Scream just isn't that good. I still ride it every visit because it has no line.

Things like this really irk me. 39% of people who took that poll obviously don't think outside of what the media "reports" to them. Not only did the media blow the incident on invertigo out of proportion, but tied in oter rides to it, in which for some reason people would now be concerned to ride Top Gun though it has nothing to do with the evac. It also irks me that since this is an amusement ride, it's a "resue mission" and an "emergency", despite the fact there were no deaths or injuries. I wonder if those same 39% of people who voted yes would not fly Southwest Airlines if they hear about one having to make an emergency landing, or not driving a Ford if they hear that some Taurus overheated. Things break. Machines aren't 100% reliable. Nothing is. Pens don't always write though they have ink. Cars overheat. Computers freeze. Cell phones drop calls. The Bay Area news agency who took it upon themselves to make this a national story need to be aware that they are utter douches of the highest calibur. Is it that slow of a news week up there? I mean Gay Rights protests are flaring up again. Our states still broke. 14% of us are out of work. The fcuking DMV is only open 3 days a week damn near and has waits of 2 hours for simple tasks that under better circumstances would take a 1/4 that time. With all this going on, they found the best story to report was a ride that broke down. DOUCHES OF THE HIGHEST CALIBUR.

^for $13 million, you could by an Xcelerator clone -
I'd countersue on terms of her being a bitch. For the record, touching anybody inappropriately is wrong in my book, but there isn't enough info given to say "this guy groped her". In a court of law, you have to be proven guilty "beyond reasonable doubt". It doesn't sound like thats what they did. Just sounds weird to me.

^That depends on what your definition of "small is... in recent memory, Patriot, Silver Bullet, Hydra, Talon, Batman Dark Knight are all under 150ft.
