  1. What is the worst place you have ever seen a roller coaster located in a park. The only thing I can think of is flight of fear at Kings Dominion before Intimidator because the "new" GP never knew it was a coaster there or where it was without reading park map lol

Moderator Edit: Post edited for spelling and capitalization. Please keep an eye on this in the future, especially when starting a new thread. Thanks!

Funny how even before I305 went in FOF was almost always full in the outside queue....it's even worse than that nowadays.

Worst location IMO would be the defunct DF at BGW,the coaster was next to impossible to find being tucked into that corner behind the festhaus which no doubt played a part in it's removal 10 years ago.Placing Batwing in the middle of nowhere at the back of the park at SFA with nothing along that path leading to it also was a rather poor decision on SFA's part because you have quite a hike from the ride all the way up to the restrooms by JJ.

  2. I was looking on Cedar Point's website and I had some trouble found out some information on how much FastLane is. I was prompted about FastLane from my friend, I was wondering how the money works? Like is it per group or per person. So like does the pricing go by person or group? I'm sorry it's hard to understand this. I don't exactly know how to word this topic. So it would be great if you guys could help inform me of how the money works out in FastLane.

    -Alec

It's a per person fee...for instance at KD on saturdays you can get a fastlane pass for a group of three for $45.00 per person, which to me is a bit too expensive.I'm not sure if CP's prices are the same but you can check at one of the kiosks or just ask on CP's facebook.

  3. I'm going to Kings Dominion this Saturday. With a chance of Isolated T-Storms and hot weather, how long can I expect the lines to be?

    -Trevor Bondi-

The longest we waited for rides was on backlot,FOF & shockwave out of the rides ridden last saturday.

Seems like wave swinger has been added to fastlane & I'm like "wtf?" the ride never generates a line long enough to need it and is usually at most just a one cycle wait.

  4. I'll probably catch hell for this... but I hope folks can see my reasoning.

I love all the additions six flags has made this year (individually with respect to each ride's own merit... like record breakers, first coaster a decade, wing rider, themeing, prototypes, etc..)

    BUT....

Here's the thing, coaster enthusiast aside, lets think in terms of feasibility. Lets talk smart business here.

Superman is a cool looking ride ... but WHAT WERE THEY THINKING when it came to capacity. I mean a scrambler type ride will get better capacity than this. From the talk of you local park goers, SFDK isn't a light attendance park like SFA. I just don't understand why they did not think about capacity. Six flags is always so focused on "Rides per Guest" yet only 12 people can ride per cycle on this ride. We are all also kind of shocked that with this prototype design they didn't take the time to think about two trains atleast with a system similar to Mr. Freeze. I mean atleast on boomerang 24 people can get in each cycle. I feel like this ride, S:UF, would've been better suited for SFA, a lower attendance park, in Two Face's Spot.

Lex Luthor DOD. I echoed these sentiments last year about the Zac Spin. Not just in terms of spinning seats as compared to X2, but in terms of capacity for such a huge park like SFMM. Lex Luthor, likewise will be just as much a capacity nightmare, IMO. 16 riders per cycle. FOR SFMM this, in my opinion, is unacceptable. While we can say that Drop towers have a short ride cycle, still, there are other options available that would have greater capacity, thus more rides per guest. While I think it's awesome to have a record breaker I just feel that it was the wrong choice to go with 16 person capacity ride. Vs. the same record breaking drop ride but a gyro drop with huge capacity. Instead six flags decided to close down its newly rennovated ride that it marketed all last season to attempt a new, semi-prototype drop tower merged with its existed coaster. Just don't think it was the best choice over a stand alone stop tower with 4-5 times the capacity.

Goliath: Again, while its an awesome ride, and yes a different experience that traditional boomerangs. IMO it doesn't matter, you still have two boomerangs, and right next to each other at that.... And guest entering the park get to the bigger one before getting to the small one. It kind of makes you ask Who's great idea was this. The park lost a popular water ride and now only has two left... only one of which gets you wet. They placed in a larger scale version of an existing ride at the park. If we recall, SFGAm was going to add Chang to their park and people were like "HUH" ... two stand up coasters ... why? Except we now see, that SF planned on removing Iron Wolf anyway... so same goes here. You add a new/used boomerang, yet you already have a ride of that style. Just makes me think that instead of taking out the popular water ride, they could've taken out the existing boomerang and placed the GIB there (albiet with relocating their balloon race and scrambler flat rides).

Apocalypse: A roller coaster was needed at SFA. Great! They finally got one... however. I think before they decided to rip out their water ride, it might have been wise, and more cost effective to place Iron Wolf where Two face was.. it would've fit perfectly but It would've ADDED to their ride count! They would've saved money not having to demolish an existing ride in the heart of their park. Not to mention that they kind of messed up one of their themed areas... Pirates/End of the World. Now we have Zombie Pirates of the Apocalypse (forget Pirates of the Carribbean lol). So the main gripe here is just cost effectiveness and adding to ride count, filling in holes, before tearing out rides. So this one is not a complete fail by any means. The capacity is great, but for a park like SFA, they could've even taken one of these lower Capacity new additions some of the other parks are getting and been just fine thus letting the higher attendance parks have a ride that would've benefited them. SFDK (don't know where they'd put it however, but I'm sure where there's a will there's a way) could used a ride like this or SFNE (again with juggling some space).

X-flight: Was the only smart decision made this year in terms of new coasters. It filled in a hole, it added to the ride count, much deserved coaster for the park, and keeps up with the Throughput that park this size needs to maintain.

This is only an evaluation of the capital expansion decisions, looking back, and just asking the question of what Six Flags's planners are thinking. They just didn't seem to really think about some key aspects. Like Imagine is Disney put in Radiator Springs racers but only had like 4 cars.... We'd be like WTF. Or imagine is Universal only had 4 kuka arm units for Forbidden Journey... again WTF but no... they thought ahead, thought about all aspects, and have like 47 or more.

That said... I expect LL:DOD line to be like Volcano's till the end of time no matter what, because the ride is limited due it its capacity, even with team members working the sweat off their brow... You will never have a short line... Even on a light day. I expect S:UF line to look like Hyperson's did at KD... which everyone knows was always long. Sometimes parks need to think before they spend! Just saying.

Again, this is a opinion of the decisions made by the park's planners on capital expansion. I'm NOT saying anything about the rides themselves, which are all awesome and great in their own respect.

Well had two face never suffered from so much downtime then it would still be there & the count would've increased by one coaster for the park but SM was proving high maintenance/low capacity as well(it never was able to run at full design capacity throughout it's life at the park) but I do see & somewhat agree with all of your other points especially the whole boomerang/GIB thing at SFNE but I guess the big selling point there is the fact that one is a huge inverted version of the other that will draw only the most daring guests to ride as some won't even get on a boomerang at 125 ft let alone an inverted model approaching 200ft in height.

No matter where S:UF was sent however it's single train/12 passenger capacity is still gonna stink,of course it's hard to truely judge or predict what will happen until the ride opens to the public however.

  5. hehe. . turned on Destination America channel and they are showing a RollerCoaster show from 2002.

and it seems to be starring Elissa on a cross-country trip to ride roller-coasters!

I felt so "special" that I knew who the heck she was!

(could swear I saw Rob in some of the footage too, even tho it makes no mention of him, and she's traveling with her College buddy).

    anyways.. too fun.

Don't think it was from 02 as a few rides featured debutted well after that time frame.Destination america is one of discovery's newer networks that basically airs all the old stuff from their channel lineup that we no longer see thanks to their marathons of just one "reality" show 24/7 these days.

  6. Hi everyone! I'm new in this forum! I'm a roller coaster fanatic, since 2010, when I ride El Jaguar, in Isla Mágica, Spain (yes, I'm Spanish)

I will ask you a lot of question, sorry if I became a bit boring!

My first question is about B&M coasters:

    - What's that? http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/215/sinttuloep.jpg/ (in red)

    - Does anyone have a picture of the lift motor on a sitting multiloop coaster (Kumba, Dragon Khan)

The area highlighted in red on the leftside of the pic is just the "crap catcher" used to keep loose items from falling under the ride while the top right arrow seems to be pointing to the track connector plate which has that little recessed groove in the tie which is standard on most B&M coasters.

  7. Seeing that person in the front left seat with their hands up, makes my left side throb. Ouch! That turn out of the drop was brutal on me a few years ago and I thought I bruised a kidney!

I have done that a few times before. I don't put my hands up as much as I used too.

Nice report so far by the way.

That's why I tend to avoid hurler like the plauge....funny thing is I was at the park on june 2nd,didn't get home that night till after 3 am due to traffic.

  8. According to Screamscape, Six Flags St. Louis asked if guests would be interested in an Invertigo for one of their options, this screams Two Face. Other survey choices ware a Zac Spin and Mega Disko.

Two face was sold overseas almost immediately upon it's removal so if SFSTL wants an invertigo they'll have to purchase a new one.Two face was a fairly decent ride that only developed reliability issues by 2002/2003 as that was when it suffered the first incident that made national news when it stalled on the lift....had the park taken better care of it(or had the funding to do so) it might still be there but alas that's not the case.

What I'm suprised with is the fact that stinger is having so many problems lately since DP claims to have solved most of the problems that plauged the ride while at CGA.

  9. You don't even want to know the kind of crazy stuff you see inside Smurf Mountain!

Speaking of smurfs did anyone notice that they're selling smurf plushies in the shops along I-street? Seems like after 30 years they're making a real comeback.

I wonder how long it's gonna be till the park gets tired of these rollbacks on volcano & decides to just replace the ride alltogether?

  10. They've run three trains on Volcano before (just not for a few years, I think). One train can be held inside the mountain, one in the unloading area, and one in the loading area.

At least that's what I recall.

    True.

One train is in load, the other train pulls in just behind for unload & the third is parked on the brake just prior to the turn leading into the unload area....my guess as to why the park hasn't been running all three trains lately could be a parts issue with train 3 possibly becoming a parts donor for trains 1 & 2.

Something rather odd happened on I305 today,we'd just gotten strapped in & waiting for dispatch when we were told to exit the train & switch sides,I asked the op about it & was told that it was a "balance issue" that led to the switch but I don't get how switching seats is gonna correct a weight imbalance due to a heavy rider & if that was the reason then why instruct all 32 passengers to switch sides when it was a problem in only one seat or car?

  11. ^Nope. El Toro.

I'm really Glad that we have two industry experts doing most of the talking instead of a narrator who is just reading the script. It gives better life to the show!

Yeah, unfortunately I got it wrong....I guess SFNE couldn't pay them enough to get on the show.I think it was produced in 06 since the employee in the ET clip says that it opened this year & the fact is that DA is a new network that discovery created for the purpose of airing their older programs from their other networks.

  12. This was a smart move for them it was going to end up as a big flop anyway....

Sadly this park was too far gone to save.

I'm not sure but the Kochs may have only taken interest in reviving the park when Hart's bid failed because had he succeeded a revitalized KK might've brought more competition for HW,even if it was very small at best.Still you can't fault them for trying so passionately.

  13. Wow, DA looks a lot more impressive than I thought it would!

I'm gonna have to invest the $5.00 to check it out on my next trip.

Anyone know what the average crowds are like on a thursday as compared to the saturday crowds? I might be going on a group outting to the park on june 21st & hope that crowds will be light compared to the usual saturday experience, especially since we'll only be staying till 6 pm.
