  1. ^I thought of Wayne's World when I saw that.

I also decided I'm going to put a Tagada in my backyard, and if lawyers do fall from the sky, I will make sure my T-Rex will eat them.

Thanks for posting updates from China Robb. I really wish I could have gone on this trip because honestly, the only way I would go to China is with TPR. I'm glad everyone is having a good time and nobody has died riding knockoff SLCs.

  2. I went to high school with one of the guys who stole Tiny back in '94 (we went to Gurnee's Warren Township H.S). No joke. His name was Bill. Quite a feat right there on interstate 94.

I don't think this is truly the end of Tiny. I've been skeptical while talking with my wife about it. Huge PR stunt by the park. Undead Tiny coming in a couple weeks?

When that happened my Dad asked me how someone could get into the park and do that. Honestly, Bill had to have some help on the inside, but I don't know all the details (just what was written in the paper when it happened). I understand if you can't share details of what exactly happened (or how it happened) but it's fun to learn the details 18 years later.

I can't help but think of the Simpsons and their cat Snowball (and Snowball 2) when I hear about Tiny. I'm sure we'll be seeing Tiny 2 next year.

  3. Here's an article about Tiny incase anyone was interested and didn't see the Facebook postings. I noticed yesterday that there was a RIP sign on the side of American Eagle where Tiny is normally perched.

No more coaster climbing for Tiny, Fright Fest icon

After 21 years of hanging on the side of the American Eagle Roller Coaster for Fright Fest at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee "Tiny" the 200 lb spider has been retired.

GURNEE — After more than two decades as a Halloween-season fixture on the Six Flags Great America skyline, Tiny the Spider, a 40-foot inflatable black widow that famously survived a kidnapping attempt in 1994, will be laid to rest later this month after being found “deflated and unresponsive” on Monday.

Chegg.com/Homework-Help/Black“Determined that Tiny simply could not hold on any longer, she perished beside the American Eagle roller coaster after attempting her 22nd annual march to her post alongside the (Tri-State) tollway,” Great America spokeswoman Katy Enrique said in a statement. “Considered the icon of Fright Fest, Tiny will be missed by the staff and guests alike.”

Enrique added that the late arachnid’s three babies — which revealed to the world that Tiny was a she and not a he in September of 2000 — “will remain on the American Eagle as tribute to their mother” for Fright Fest 2012.

Tiny was first hoisted on the southwest side of the wooden American Eagle roller coaster in 1991, which was also the inaugural year for Fright Fest at Great America.

At the time the spider went up in late September of that year, it was reported to be 40 feet long and 40 feet wide, weighing 200 pounds and consisting of 200 yards of black vinyl. The oversized decoration reportedly was constructed by Bigger Than Life, a California advertising firm, and came with a $15,000 price tag.

Perhaps Tiny’s most notable moment arrived on Oct. 1, 1994, when park employees looked out that Saturday morning and saw she was missing from where she had just been put up three days earlier. Officials quickly determined that vandals had climbed over a security fence and waded through a small pond before climbing up the web-like structure of the coaster and cutting the spider loose.

But, as a Gurnee police officer put it at the time, “something that big has to show up somewhere.” Three days after the theft, a passerby noticed a large black thing sitting inside an open garage on Country Club Avenue near Green Bay Road, about three miles from the park. Three 20-year-old culprits were subsequently charged with theft and criminal trespass, and Tiny was returned to her perch.

And now the end is near. According to Enrique, “Tiny will be laid to rest on Six Flags grounds. Visitation and services will take place at Six Flags Great America on Saturday, Sept. 29,” which is opening day for Fright Fest.

  4. Anybody else playing The Simpsons Tapped Out?

Hanno, I know you posted about this months ago, but I just heard about The Simpsons Tapped Out last week! Of course I downloaded it and I'm already addicted to it.

And for those of you who have not, download the Roller Coaster Trivia app. You won't be disappointed.

  5. First off, I just want to point out that this thread is on page 69.

Chad, I don't know if I have a favorite trip report. You and I have been on two TPR trips, and you've visited the midwest twice now. I've whored out Illinois with you, went to several parks with you not to mention Lambeau Field. We had many laughs and great times. However there are two things that stick out right now, first off our trip to HW for Holiwood Nights. I don't think next year will top it, but we can sure go again and try! Second, your taco reports for both Indiana Beach and the Leviathon trip.

Thanks for letting me be apart of your shenanigans. I think I need to visit your neck of the woods soon.

  6. It really is worth the money though, especially going on a day when it's super busy. Where will you be staying? If you're staying at any of their properties (Hotel Breakers, Breakers Express etc.) you will be able to get in an hour early in the morning. Plus, they do have discounted tickets if you stay at one of their hotels.

  7. First off, I want to say that I like the rename of the thread. Second, I'm glad you had a great time at the park - again. I do agree with you about SFGAm being one of the most photogenic parks. It's also one of my favorite SF parks. Glad you had a great day!

I also want to say that yeah maybe some people have bad days at our park, but the person who wrote that had their top ten coasters from Cedar Point.

  8. I finally took my first visit to IB last year. I had fun. Yeah the park could have been "spruced" up a bit, but we made the best of it and had a very enjoyable day. We even had tacos for lunch from the world famous taco shop, and I do remember them putting that chihuahua queso on it. Maybe they changed it from last year, who knows, but I thougtht the taco was enjoyable.

I sadly haven't been back to IB. I have been wanting to go again since a couple of coasters were down when I was there last.

  9. I still think SFGA is not a good park. It was exremely old & the Ragin Bull is the only thing there that was good to me and yes to me.

Why do you say the park is extremely old? It's only been open for 36 years (or seasons if that's how you want to look at it). Honestly, I think SFGAm is one of the best parks in the chain along with SFoT and SFoG and it's one of the cleaner parks I've been to as well.

Doesnt have much of a selection of anything.

What exactly do you mean by this? There are a total of 12 coasters in the park, along with 20+ flat rides. SFGAm is nothing like SFGAdv when it comes to flat rides. Infact, I think Great Adventure has what, maybe two or three? That's not much of a selection to me.

Some of my friends don't like the chain and they've expressed that to me. But, when they visit Great America, my friends always tell me that it's one of the better parks in the chain and they had fun. I know this is your opinion, but my opinion of your post is that you didn't give this park a chance.
