  1. The closest thing Alaska has to a park is AlaskaLand/Frontier Land. Could this be what you are talking about? It's located right next to the Alaskan Salmon Bake if that helps. Granted, this park is in Fairbanks which is a long drive from Anchorage. I wouldn't be surprised if this park or even the Anchorage Zoo(a nice family owned zoo) added a small coaster some time in the future.
  2. What? No Amish people pretending to be Amish-check? If you don't get that comment, check out the photos from Robb and Eliss'a 2003 trip. Nice trip report and photos, and Dutch Wonderland looks like a nice "little" park. Sure it is geared towards kids, but it still looks like a lot of fun to visit.
  3. I reject your reality and substitute my own.
  4. Like everyone else, I don't think any other parks have a feature like this, and the closest thing I've seen other parks come to this is to list the weather on the website. Sadly, the parks are escaping my memory right now, but I want to say Six Flags Great America might. Edit: okay, I was totally wrong about what Twitter was...
  5. After a six month drought, I ended my day with a ride on Viper.
  6. act now and...you can see the latest Dark Knight progress thanks for reading DK theming Dark Knight Dark Knight DK Lockers...more than the other rides Dark Knight For you lift hill enthusiasts If it was open, I might have ridden it...yeah right row row row your boat didn't turn out as I'd have liked... vertical loop What ride is this? 7. ...but that's not all Did CF buy the park? more soon ow ow ow ow ow Poor innocent riders another shot of Demon American Eagle was ony running the red side since the blue side was being re-tracked Three coasters in one shot...I am so cool...well maybe not, but the photo is...kinda Viper's first...well technically second turn Coming into the brakes artsy-ish shot of Viper's brake house airtime preparing to drop artsy shot of Viper's station Viper is such a good ride Raging Bull...hows that for a caption extreme close up #2 Evil trim Viper was awesome...why can't every SF park have a coaster like this or El Toro? MCBR Track
  8. First off, I apologize for the graininess of the pictures as I was trying out a new setting. Second, due to the high wind, there are no trains in the Raging Bull pictures and few pictures of many of the other rides due to many being closed. So while not my best TR, it does show off what is new this year. The Good -the park was very clean(obviously) -the staff was great -ride operations were awesome -many of the rides were repainted, retracked, etc. The Bad -$25 to park in the main lot and $15 to park in the auxiliary -the food prices were raised Back to the awesome ride operations...Even though the park was dead, the rides that were open were running full or near full capacity. The coasters could have easily run just one train with the light crowds, but unless a train was in rehab, they were all in use. As for the lockers, they only cost $1, so it is not like SF is over charging. I think that there are too few lockers in place as they will easily be filled once summer comes. Now on to the pictures... track...more coming soon Lockers Signage Hi Derek Raging Bull got a bright new paint job...well most of it did Sadly Spy Girl couldn't save the world during her last show extreme close up Corkscrew Deja vu's current replacement Demon through the tree SWF queue is all that remains I swear I left it right here Overview of the site Well there's your problem... Pieces waiting to go out west I doubt it'll open on time as there is still a lot to dismantle It's off to Idaho we go... Since Deja vu was bullying the other coasters, SFGAM put it up for adoption Welcome to SFGAM
  9. Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?
  10. ^Raging Bull has good days, normal days, and bad days, and on a good day, it is the best ride in the park. However, those are few and far between, and usually it is a fun but tame ride. Didn't see that coming... Oh well, as Nicole said, it will still be the best ride in the park, and if it wasn't trimmed to hell, then it probably would be a very good ride.(and not just by CW standards) Hopefully this was just a bad day and the ride will be better when it opens to the public. However, since this is a large coaster at a CF park, I doubt it.
  11. While I agree there seems to be a zero roughness policy on the site, Predator deserves all the hate it gets. The ride is incredibly rough, and the ride is trimmed so much that it is a boring ride. This is a ride that could be great if it was retracked and the trims removed, however, I doubt that will happen anytime soon. As for the new name change, I'm not sure what to think as I'm not a fan where the "sponsorship" is part of the ride name. If it would be like UK coasters ,where the ride has a sponsor but it is not part of the name, then I would think differently.
  12. A Lotta Nerve - Allister
  13. Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the car pool lane?
  14. Yeah I felt it too, and like Cameron said, it was as though someone was gently rocking my bed. It was cool as I've slept through the last earthquakes that have hit the area at night(we had a similar sized one last year). When it happened, I wasn't sure if I was imagining it, or if it was a real earthquake, but when I head the news on the radio, all my doubts went away. Strange coincidence: the earthquake today happened 102 years after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
  15. After checking to make sure it wasn't April 1, I assume this is real. Link
  16. Although I don't have that particular camera, it looks about the same size as mine. My only problem with it-that might affect you-is its size. It's too big to keep in cargo pockets, so you'll have to rent a locker if you take it to any parks. On the other hand, since it isn't a little point and shoot camera, you'll be able to adjust your camera settings to the conditions when taking your photos. Anyways, I'd still hang on to the old camera if I were you, as you will be able to take pictures from queue lines. Edit: well, apparently you use my last bit of advice as I forgot you lost your camera.
  17. Nice photos Mike, and they do a good job of showing off what a great park SFGADV is. It looks like you had a great time, and at least I'm not the only one who thinks Nitro is an awesome ride.
  18. Sadly some of those on the list apply to me... ...you post on roller coaster forums ...when traveling, you try to stop at the local amusement park ...you get upset when the GP make a mistake when talking about coasters ...you can name several coasters in a state/country that you don't live in
  19. Having been to both Cedar Point and Great Adventure, I say go with Great Adventure. The coaster selection is better, and SFGADV was just more enjoyable. Since you are going on a weekday, crowds won't be bad, but I wouldn't expect them to be light either. However, weeknights should be light, so you'll probably be able to get many rides in the final two hours of the day. While SFGADV has fewer coasters, their collection seems more complete, and SFGADV's coasters are better than those of the same type at CP. They also have what looks like a great water park(I didn't have time to visit), and the only thing the park lacks is a drop tower. The only thing is that it is in the middle of nowhere...
  20. Even though I've only been on three launches, Kingda Ka will probably always remain one of the most forceful. The launch was absolutely incredible, and it is one of my all time favorite coaster moments. While the rest of the ride isn't that great, the launch(and drop) is why I like this ride so much. While not as forceful, the launch on Mr. Freeze is my favorite. Even though I rode this just a few weeks after Kingda Ka, this was still an impressive launch. Although slower(in speed and acceleration), Mr. Freeze's launch was just incredibly fun. Of course, I also might also like this ride so much because I finally got to ride after my previous two visits to the park were unsuccessful as the ride was closed.
  21. Wow, this is really sad news, and this is probably the final nail in the coffin for this park. Since there was so much trouble to keep the park open, I'm sure the owners will sell the land, and soon, the land will be redeveloped.
