Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
Airtime&Gravity replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In Dark Knights queue, a guy said "There's a Six Flags park in Joliet(a town a few hours south of SFGAM) with seven coasters." When Kingda Ka was shown on a t.v. in Dark Knights queue, some teenage girl thought they bought TTD -
I think RCPro uses it, and there doesn't seem to be a difference between those forums and these. Some possible features I thought of were: -quick post -custom profile background -top coasters/rides/parks section as mentioned before -comment section(like on RCPro) -photo section where photos can be grouped in to galleries and rated by viewers

^yeah I thought of that after I posted it. I forgot there are no headrests on this coaster, so I guess the impact is worse than it seems in the article. Since none of the riders had to go to the hospital, I'd assume that Cedar Fair refunded their ticket price or offered free tickets...well I would if I ran the park.

^^With the exception of a euro-fighter, what kind of "major" coaster would the build in its place? Oh well, these things happen, and hopefully the park can get it up and running again. I actually hope that they keep Wildcat as it is a great family coaster in a park filled with many large coasters. Time for society to be sue happy again...

HUGE Road Trip - Any advice is appreciated!
Airtime&Gravity replied to Vffreak07's topic in Ask Alvey
Neither does Viper, so hit that up early too. Also, get a q-bot if there are large crowds, but since you are going on a Monday, you probably might not need one. If you like water parks, make sure you stop at Hurricane Harbor as it is an excellent water park with many great slides. Also, don't eat in the park as it is expensive and not that good. If you have time, try to hit up Golden Corral for a meal as it is an awesome (and reasonably priced) buffet. -
Great Park Operations
Airtime&Gravity replied to denning's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Timber Falls probably has the nicest staff of any park I've been to, and Avalanche has the best ride crew...I mean operator of any coaster I've ridden. They give free re-rides when there is no line, and if you have an all day pass, they will let you ride constantly with out getting out. They will talk about the park, and wait if you want to take some pictures before riding. They will also hot wire the coaster if it gets struck by lightning. I mean, how can you top that? SFGAM almost always has great ride operations, but Viper's crew is easily the best in the park. The members of this crew are always enthusiastic, have a smile on their face, and try to get the riders excited. Whizzer and Eagle also have great operations. -
If or when this park closes, would it be possible for them to move Hellcat to Alabama Adventure, or does it interact with its surroundings to much? As for the new name, it is unique, but maybe not right for a family park. I think some parents might be offended with a coaster with "Hell" in it. I didn't think anything was wrong with J2, so I don't see why it had to be changed.

^Umm, that's because that was a DISNEY park. Hard Rock Park is a large park, and it was built for under $300 million. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was built for around $250 million. As for this project, it's a step in rebuilding, and although I doubt it will get built, it would be nice if it does.

I voted for Intamin as it has changed the industry over the past few years. Sure B&M, Arrow, and Schwartzkopf have too, but aside from some innovations(the loop/corkscrew) their impact isn't felt as much due to ride closings or a different design mentality. Intamin, however has pushed the envelope ever since its first major coaster, and their designs continue to get better and better. However, Vekoma has been doing really well over the past few years, and they even have a hyper-coaster design.

Great Adventure or Cedar point

Having been to both parks, I can say that SFGADV is the better choice. While CP is a good park, it is not as good as it is hyped up to be. Sure it has the most coasters, but they aren't that special. Sure they are fun, but they don't live up to their hype. While CP also has a decent flat ride collection, it is just your standard park rides with nothing that is unique. While some of what I said could be applied to SFGADV, it is still the better park. The staff is great, and the park is really well run. The coasters are fun, and in designs shared with CP, SFGADV wins in most cases. SFGADV also has a decent flat ride selection, but like CP, there is nothing that special about it. SFGADV also has a superior water park, and an animal safari, so when you are done with the ride park, there is still a lot to do. SFGADV also has Q-bot, so you'll still be able to ride a lot even on a crowded day. Plus SFGADV has El Toro which is a good enough reason to visit. -

Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread

Does anyone else think Parques Reunidos is like Premier Parks in the 90s in that they adding many parks frequently? I have nothing against the sale as PR seems like a company that will be able to do a good job of running the park. The other parks they own look like great parks to visit, and hopefully they add great rides to these parks like they have to the European parks. I believe that PR will be able to keep the charm of these parks while adding new rides, and of all the major park chains, they will be able to run the parks the best. -

^^Exactly, and they gave the impression that rides are unsafe, and that there is a good chance of a similar thing happening to you next time you ride. The interview is going to scare the GP-making them want the bill-, and the amusement industry might suffer if the bill takes things too far. I think I can speak for everyone when I saw we want the rides to be as safe as possible, and I have nothing wrong with the government making sure of this. However, this was a freak accident, and while it might have been preventable, these freak accidents will happen no matter what. Slightly off topic, but with all those who die because they act like idiots or ride with medical conditions on these rides will probably make the regulations even stricter. The sad part about that is because it is the rider's fault and not the ride's, but this bill won't recognize that. I see this bill and what comes out of it as blaming the park/ride/ride manufacturer for every accident there is. People go to parks to have fun, and with this bill, I just see the rides not being able to do that as well. Yes I want to be safe when I ride, but I want to also have fun and be thrilled. Maybe this won't be as bad as I fear, but I think that this safety bill will go overboard for a few years. Yes this was a tragic accident due to no fault of the rider, but it was an accident that had never happened before and probable never will again. Sure the family deserves compensation, but this thing is going to far. These rides are inspected frequently by the state(right?), and amusement rides are extremely safe assuming you don't do something stupid. There are many far more dangerous recreation options than going to an amusement park, and your more likely to be in a car accident than be hurt on a ride due to a ride malfunction. Sure a little more regulation won't hurt, but I'm going to be very upset when seat belts are required on all water/flat rides, heavy trims on coasters, and over extensive restraints on all coasters.

DID YOU KNOW?
Airtime&Gravity replied to coasterfreak81's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Did you know: That the shuttle loop coaster at PGA became parts for the shuttle loop at SFKK(originally SFGAM)? That the owner of Knuckleheads in the Wisconsin Dells originally opend up Black Wolf Lodge(now Great Wolf) and Noah's Ark? Six Flags St. Louis was the last park built by Six Flags? Six Flags St. Louis had a pet kennel and a petting zoo sponsored by Purina? The petting zoo was the Purina Pet a Pet. -
Horrible Park Operations
Airtime&Gravity replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Mt. Olympus-the ride operators just don't care SFKK-who came up with the brilliant idea was it to only run two cars with one not being sent until the other came to the station? -

I never got the Riverview credits as I either never had time or they were closed when I visited. As for Dive to Atlantis, I got the credit, and I will not miss the ride. Sure it was a way to cool off, but it was such a pointless ride. When the park bought the adjacent properties, the ride had no purpose as people could just go to the water park to cool off.(and have more fun doing so) Slightly off topic, but I've been slightly concerned about Timber Falls. On my last visit, they(I assume an owner/manager) said that Mt. Olympus has hurt them a lot since 2005. Hopefully the park survives as it is an awesome tiny park.
