I totally geeked out over that Spider ride. Thanks for posting a park I'd never heard of Mike!

You want old Busch stuff, you got old Busch stuff...
Turns out antique stores and flea markets are great places to find amusement and theme park postcards, which is where I bought these Old Swiss House cards from Busch Gardens Africa. I wish I knew the exact year of the brochure, but I've had it ever since I can remember, and a quick Google search revealed that Boma was added to the park in the late 1960's, so we'll go with that. Enjoy!
These ladies are having a fine time in front of the Old Swiss House, and as evidenced by their fashions and the sparse landscaping around the house, I'm guessing this photo is from the late 1960's.
Here's the house in 1972 where you can see that the greenery is much more lush.
We see you Wild Eagle.
This one's for all the monorail fanboys, myself included, and also the golf cart enthusiasts. Rejoice!
Let's move along to this gorgeous 1960's brochure. Love that font and the giraffes!
Look out little girl...that giraffe is going to eat you!
BGA was touting their new area, Boma, in the late 1960's. Today this area is Nairobi.
Take that Animal Kingdom.
Buckminster Fuller fans take note though it's not quite Spaceship Earth.
Stairway to the Stars (aka world's longest escalator to a brewery tour)
A map of the park in the late 1960's
Attraction #12 - "Dark Room" for all you camera film buffs!
Hope you all enjoyed this look back at the early days of Busch Gardens Africa!

That Zipper looks gorgeous. Do they ever turn off the overhead interior lights? It seems like there would be enough illumination from the rides themselves and create some much needed ambiance from the sterile Wal Mart looking interior. Thanks for sharing!

I've been sandbagging on Busch for a while now. Time to fire up the scanner. Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll have it up soon.

Any requests? I'm kinda at a loss and trying to decide what to add next.

I regret I was stuck in the cubicle farm all day today instead of at Dollywood riding WE. Really awesome media day report Eric! Thank you so much, and I can't wait to get there in April!

The Alien Panic walk through scared the mess out of me! I would love to have gone through it with Scottish Steve. Does it still have that infamous "mirror room"?
Great updates, Divv!

This thread begs for Schwarzkopf ala SFOG Mind Bender. Someone please?

Big Mike, I absolutely LOVE Rye P and congrats on that kiddie woodie credit that was so elusive to me. Thanks for sharing the vid...Nice job!

Still a long ways to go, but according to their Facebook Ole South just scored their 100th Pioneer Club member contributer.

World's fastest steepest and or highest zip line?

Stellar updates...thanks so much. One can only hope Wild Eagle rides as amazing as it looks, and I for one cannot wait to get back over to Gold Rush Junction to experience it.

Well looks like they could certainly make an Octoberish Halloween 2012 deadline for the Haunted House if not sooner.
-
As a dirt enthusiast, I have to say this is another really awesome update, Larry. Looks like things are progressing along nicely. Thanks for the photos, and do they have a projected time line of when they want to open the dark ride(s)?

I'm wondering if it affected the remains of Celebration City.

How did the truck get inside that part of the park?! That must've been some tight maneuvering. This sculpture looks AMAZING. Thanks for the first half of this update and can't want to see more!

Interesting vid from the 2012 World Expo in Yeosu, Korea...I can't wait to get there someday.
Sorry if the vid doesn't work. Maybe a mod can fix???

^ BB is for Beech Bend. Hmm...clever acronym for this now???

I've been thinking a lot about that bridge and would also prefer to see a wooden bridge but covered to prevent views of the access road below. I would enjoy seeing it themed to an old southern US style covered bridge.

The new wheel does look great! Thanks for posting this Peter. Now all the park is missing is Max Burgers.

According to Bluegrass Boardwalk's Facebook, they will be tweeting from the meeting with the fair board which is about to begin, and in case you're interested you can follow along: http://twitter.com/BluegrassBwalk . BB is last on the board's agenda, so it might be a while before we see much twitter activity.

Anyone heard anything about when the steel poll voting will begin?

Hey Larry..thanks. I've been a bit too lazy lately, so hopefully that's helped you catch up some. Many thanks for the TPR park database, and I'm sure I owe you several brews next TPR trip!
