  1. How many cars per shaft?

What takes you up the first stages?

How it runs across the top floor (can see the rails etc) to the drop?

I have heard its actually a push down rather then a drop?

    Any peeps got an insight?

I've only been on the ride maybe half a dozen times, same as DCA's TOT. So my knowledge is limited, but I can answer a few questions.

Last question first: you aren't pushed down, you are pulled down. The cables jerk you down so you get more than just a free fall. (Oh joy).

Not quite sure what you mean by 'moving across the top floor' the top floors are only shaft space. You get pulled up to the top floor from what, the 5th floor of which is what the images above show you.

Unlike DCA, there are two drop zones. But in the basement, there are 4 loading bays which (in the above shown sequence) converge into two different 5th dimension scenes.

Both the loading bay and the drop shafts contain moving cages which the elevator slides in an out of.

These elevators are prob. not battery operated but get their power from those 'tracks' you see in the picture? Just guessing.

The cars communicate wirelessly to a computer which runs the operation. This has been problematic in the past. Don't know if the issue is resolved yet.

    Does this help?

  2. A great litmus test is just checking WDW hours on their web site. I hear so many people asking about busy times -- do primary source research. Its good enough.

MK hours specifically -- the longer they stay open, the more people around...very simple actually. Spring break: 8 - midnight= bad

Per Typhoon lagoon: the best days are cloudy days (like today) very few people there -- avoid the sunny 'nice' days. You will have to wait a while to get on something like Crush. You can have an overcast day like today in the low 80's and feel fine and not get a burn with moderate sun screen and hardly have to wait for the attractions.

ALSO: if it rains in the morning or late at night and its wet outside people take a while to get into the parks -- so, its a great time to go, even if its supposed to be a busy day because everyone's staying indoors.

As per job perks w. disney: its generally known that if you work for Disney you typically get lower pay etc. Its the cost of 'magic'.

  3. Was at Typhoon again today and noticed two new signs stating that the Three person tube was only good for one slide: pineapple plunger, and not the other two (coco crusher, bana blaster).

I'll get a pick of the signs, but essentially, when you are up top, its only the middle one you can go down on, and not the other two.

When entering the chained area on the main floor, its the far left that is only available, fyi.

Also, something I've been noticing... Banana Blaster seems to be favored over the other two (its the least intense in my opinion).

Perhaps though its just because its on the far right for entry, and most people in the West favor heading that direction when it comes to lines and entering, exiting areas.

  4. Apparently there are some Vekoma haters out there.

Curious as to why. I'm only very familiar with Disney parks -- and I know that Cal. Screamin is Intamin -- but why would Disney not stick with one manufacturer? (Vekoma did RNR and is apparently doing Expedition everest).

Does Vekoma have THAT bad of a rep? And if so, why would Disney use them for some large attractions?

  5. That poll is a little narrow don't you think? What about sexuality as 'aggressive' or 'compulsive' (masturbation/porn/sex) or 'pedophile' or 'incest' heck, we've got a confessed lover of animals! J.k. Sorry! Couldn't resist!

So 20% of the respondents so far are gay men, which, while not overwhelming, confirms the idea that we're overrepresented in the "coaster community." An interesting question is "Why?" Coastering certainly doesn't fit the stereotype of an archetypically queer pursuit.

Oh, I would soooo disagree there. Any experience that offers intensity -- you'll get the gay community 'out' for it. Theatre, choral stuff, art, law, accounting (tax time = intense!). PM me for some interesting links -- connecting sexuality and pursuits / motivation. I'm writing a book this summer that addresses this in part.

  7. Well, for some reason (I now forget) I wasn't allowed to get my driver's license till I was 17. So here is the rundown of the last 10 years of driving:

    Rundown of vehicles:

    Current:

2004 SLK 32 AMG & 2002 Honda Metropolitan Scooter (a lot of fun).

    Past:

1990 Q45 (nothing like peeling out in a sedan)

2002 C Coupe (lots of trouble)

    2001 Xterra

199? Tacoma (Xtra cab -- lot of fun)

    199? Pathfinder LE

199? Regular Tacoma (red) stick -- total blast

    199? Mom's E Class (life is rough!)

    199? White Toyota Truck 4 x 4 (brother's -- out of country).

I think there was another pathfinder in there -- so every year a different vehicle...I think I'm a car addict.

  8. I love how the author admitted they were a total fan of horror movies in what he/she wrote -- way to garner credibility -- but I mean, come on nothing listed there (in terms of images) couldn't be duplicated.

  9. That darn thing takes forever to drop, it almost seems a little excessive and people will forget they are on a coaster when your sitting in the 3rd row.

Well, they are testing, so its not 'final'...the 2nd drop/brake is probably more of what the ride is going to be like. That part is crazy. But you HAVE to slow these coasters down considerably...otherwise your negative G will be excessive/dangerous.

    It will be kuhl.

  10. I guess making a re-creation and 'ace'ing all my physics courses in college led me to imagine a fairly accurate depiction (after looking at that video).

I knew they'd have to break like a beeyotch for that 2nd drop.

Remember folks -- that's a 24 person train === serious momentum. Its got the pacing of a normal coaster

I think it will be fun, but maybe not as intense as some hope for?
