What is your favorite Roller Coaster?
coasterbill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll never get you Boulder Dash people. I mean, it's good. But it's not even close to rides like Phoenix, El Toro and a bunch of top steel coasters. The Boulder Dash people are fanatical though. You're almost like the Yankee Cannonball people. -
If I remember correctly, Ninja actually has one of the highest riderships of all of the rides in the park. Granted this was from 2 years ago, but I don't imagine much has changed since then. This is most likely a capacity thing. I've never ridden it but I'm assuming it has no seatbelt and it's really easy to check restraints on an Arrow / Vekoma train without a seatbelt. This allows them to send more trains which leads to much higher ridership numbers. As a comparison, Iron Dragon routinely crushes Maverick and Top Thrill Dragster in terms of ridership for the very same reason.

Favorite Log Flume
coasterbill replied to apollo210's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Because they're huge boats that hold eight people. It's much more similar to a large splash boat ride like Tidal Wave at BGT, Escape from Pompeii or White Water Landing at Dorney. Log Flumes generally have one row of riders sitting in a line in much smaller boats. They have a much different feel than a ride like Splash Mountain in Florida. Just because the boat looks like a log doesn't make it a log flume. -
Favorite Log Flume
coasterbill replied to apollo210's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I might be wrong but I believe Pirates is technically a shoot the chute, not a log flume. You all need to realize that there is a difference between log flumes and shoot-the-chutes. I agree with that last statement as Pirates and Splash Mountain (in Florida) are not Log Flumes in any way, shape or form. I think you're confusing rides though. White Water Landing at Dorney is a chute the chutes, Snake River Falls at Cedar Point is a chute the chutes but White Water Landing was a log flume, and a very good one at that. I still miss that ride. -
Favorite Log Flume
coasterbill replied to apollo210's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have yet to ride the one at Knotts or MOA so for now I'm going with Shenandoah Lumber Company at Kings Dominion. I love all Log Flumes but for some reason that one really stands out. The others that come to mind near the top of the list are Thunder Creek Mountain at Dorney, the Knoebels Flume and Ripsaw Falls. And no, Splash Mountain is not a Log Flume. -

Worst Theme Park Experience

We went to Conneaut Lake park on a typical operating day. I don't feel that any further explanation is required. -
Oh god I didn't even realize that. Is it too early to start drinking?

I love you right now.

Screaming on Roller Coasters
coasterbill replied to Married a Canadian's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you move next to a theme park that was already there and then complain about it being noisy then you're an a**hole. It would be like moving to the desert and then complaining that it was too hot and demand someone do something about it. Unless it's a brand new park then parks should never have to make concessions in regards to noise, height or anything like that (unless the height issue is in regards to the FAA). If you're bothered by the sounds of people having fun then you should move to somewhere that sucks where everyone's miserable all the time. You shouldn't have moved next door to an amusement park. -
Okay so who's ready for the world's strangest trip report??? So my brother is moving to Delaware and we figured we'd accompany him on the trip to help him get settled in. We were on the turnpike, dressed for work and knew we were like 2 hours ahead of them. When we were in Fort Lee my girlfriend (because she's literally perfect for me) asked "so um... when does Great Adventure close?". It was about 6:00, they closed at 8:00 so we figured we were screwed but we made pretty good time and found ourselves at Exit 7A around 7:15. There was some lightning around so we knew if we went there was about a 50% chance we wouldn't get to ride El Toro (which was the whole point) and almost didn't go but when we realized the absolute worst thing that could happen was we'd get to ride Skull Mountain in the ejector seat which is way better than sitting around the house for over an hour waiting for everyone to show up so we could go to the bar, we decided to go for it. There was no lightning near the park until we pulled off the exit and saw a huge bolt, so we knew then we were screwed. At this point though we were committed so we headed through the empty parking gates, zipped into Prefered Parking since there was literally nobody there, threw all of our metal stuff that would slow us down on our way in in the back seat and headed in 20 minutes before park close. It was pretty clear that all outdoor rides had closed but we weren't going to let that ruin our stupid side trip. We bolted right for the Mountain. There was no greeter so we were worried they had closed but then we heard the sounds of death metal and figured they just went inside because of the weather. Still dressed for work we walked right into the back row and rode it in the ejector seat 5 times without getting up. It was no El Toro but it was awesome, and somehow we managed to do all of this without getting dumped on by rain. An hour later we were back on the Turnpike, still ahead of everyone and we had 5 Skull Mountain rides and one of the strangest, dumbest visits to Great Adventure ever under our belts. It was great, we regret nothing. Lol So um.. ride list Skull Mountain x5 ... Lololololol Still dressed for work, lol!

Yeah I saw that. I'll probably go up anyway and ride whatever's open. And my bet's on Toro as well. Has Nitro ever valleyed from wind? And if so, are there pictures? Yes, and during Holiday in the Park it was defying the laws of gravity but somehow never did. I know I've seen pictures of it valleyed but for whatever reason I can't find them. Here's a trip report from that day though.

Forceless coaster?
coasterbill replied to gbioryl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah like I said I really like all the coasters I mentioned. Force does not make or break a ride, but sometimes after riding something like Gatekeeper (which I love) it's nice to get on a ride like Maverick because it's almost like it's trying to say "Okay enough of that floaty fairy tale bulls*t hang on and try not to die or get thrown into the lake". -

Don't worry guys, Skyrush sucks anyway ... But to be fair I'll probably keep riding until I figure out how to make myself like it. It worked for Magnum Xl 200 after like 15 years. -

In the last 2 years this park has doubled the size of their water park, totally re-done the front gate and added one of the best coasters in the world and a cool new interactive attraction and next year they're adding 5 new rides including an awesome top scan. To do all of that, they've removed one very mediocre wood coaster with no historical value. That's it... and crappy Go Karts but they added a much better up charge slingshot. People will complain about anything I swear... -
Most Overrated coaster?
coasterbill replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Because it was an amazing concept but was designed almost two decades too early. However if it weren't for X2 there would be no Intamin ZacSpins If X2 paved the way for Green Lantern then that only adds to how much it sucks. You may be right, but they are popular and therefore X2 has it's place These rides all have their place, if nobody liked them they wouldn't be highly rated and therefore I wouldn't be bringing them up in a thread about "overrated" rides. But yeah X2 and Green Lantern do have their place... in coaster hell. Also pretty much everyone hates Green Lantern. -

Forceless coaster?
coasterbill replied to gbioryl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Like I said And the Dragon Coaster was sort of a joke. But if you ride El Toro, Batman, Maverick, Kuma or Montu and ride one of these you'll see what I mean. It's more about how a ride feels than it's actual stats. Abrupt directional changes, violent airtime and quick changes in G force make a ride feel forceful. Slow, gradual transitions like on modern B&M's make the ride feel less intense than something like Kumba where the elements hit at high speed in short amounts of time. -

Didn't Banshee only raise attendance by like 1%? Obviously I haven't seen the numbers and I'm not pretending to be an expert but if that's true I don't understand why they'd choose to invest that type of money in a large coaster when putting it elsewhere in the chain would probably have a bigger impact on attendance. Just curious... -

This has nothing to do with anything but I would kill for the opportunity to ride Skyrush with the same trains as Millennium Force / Superman before they ruined them. It'll never happen but that would be the greatest thing ever. -
Forceless coaster?
coasterbill replied to gbioryl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I knew you'd give me hell for Bizarro. In the very back row the drop is pretty forceful (not Dominator forceful but forceful) but that's about it for me. I still really like the ride though.
