Hi Guys
Before I start, I have run this by Robb and Elissa, who are happy for me to create topic about a book I have written on Roller Coasters.
My book is published by the US based Schiffer Publishing and is called "Coasting around the UK: Roller Coasters of the United Kingdom". It is a comprehensive look at all the major (and some not so major) UK parks as they were at the end of the 2015 season. There are 38 parks featured and full profiles on 80 coasters.
Writing a book on Roller Coasters has always been an ambition of mine, but I never got round to it, so imagine my surprise when the first publisher I contacted, wanted to run with the idea.
My aim for the book was to showcase what the UK parks have to offer and to show some of the unique rides we have over in the UK. I wanted it to appeal to all, from seasoned coaster enthusiasts to those just starting in our wonderful hobby. From grandparents, to kids and to people who have no interest in coasters whatsoever, but who can appreciate structural beauty which some coasters have in abundance.
I have always been a keen photographer, so the general idea of the book was it to be photo driven. However, I didn’t want this title to be just another coaster book with pictures of blue skies and the coaster and train in shot. So I managed to get all the parks on board and some gave me behind the scenes access for exclusive views or allowed on ride photography. I also used the Great British weather to provide some mean and moody clouds to give atmosphere to some of the photos. I also used my love of night photography to get some great views of the parks and coasters as the sun set along with having shots where there isn’t even a train in sight, just a close up of the structural beauty of these rides.
Within the 224 pages, there are 397 photos, all which were taken by myself, interspersed with facts and figures about the rides, along with general facts about both the parks and coasters.
There are also 6 closed parks featured along with 10 lost coasters including the 4 Man Bob, Alton Beast and Thunder Looper from Alton, Texas Tornado from Frontierland and the Cyclone from Southport Pleasureland
John Wardley was even kind enough to write a foreword for my book, for which I felt very honoured.
