  1. By a strange twist of fate, we've been there 2 times in the last two years. They had a lot of signage for coming attractions (Lionsgate IP) but we did not see much change or construction in the park between 2018 and 2019. There were, however, a waterpark (separate gate) and a Transformers experience (separate gate) added in that time. Sorry, just a couple of pics. April 6, 2018 March 18, 2019
  2. 1. Name 3 of your favorite roller coasters, but not your top 3. Space Mountain (Disneyland CA), Jackrabbit (Kennywood), Nitro (SFGAdv) 2. About how many different parks did you visit in 2018? 101 3. Which 2018 park visit was your favorite? Motiongate; It's fun to discover a big new park for the first time. 4. Your favorite 2018 park addition (ride, food, show, etc)? Mardi Gras at USF or SeaWorld Electric Ocean (San Diego). Wait does this mean a new thing in that park for that year? I think Electric Ocean qualifies? 5. What ride exceeded your expectations the most in 2018? Several rides at Motiongate impressed me, including Shrek's Merry Fairy Tale Journey and Dragon Gliders. I liked the Ghost Busters ride and the Hotel Transylvania ride too. 6. Best meal/food at a park in 2018? Tough one. Either amazing spicy meat on a stick at Foreigner Street in Chongqing, or the nice dinner we had at La Rotisserie in Azur Park in France, or cedar plank salmon served up at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland in London. Or maybe the chicken at Knott's Berry Farm? 7. What was your favorite new coaster of 2018 NOT made by RMC or Larson? Loved Oscar's Wacky Taxi. 8. Name one park you will definitely visit in 2019. I've already visited 14 parks in 2019. 9. Best ride themed to a bird? Tranan at Skara Sommarland is pretty cool. 10. Lamest ride/coaster you rode in 2018? There were a lot of Wacky Worms and SBF Spinners in my 2018. 11. What roller coaster currently sits at the top of your bucketlist? (degree of difficulty: NOT a new-for-2019 ride) Wood Coaster at Knight Valley 12. What new-for-2019 ride or coaster are you most looking forward to? Steel Curtain at Kennywood 13. Name the first totally middle-of-the-road (not bad/not great) park that comes to mind. Kentucky Kingdom 14. You're in Orlando and magically have a 1-hour ERT session on 1 coaster of your choice at any park in the city. You choose... Mako 15. Holiday In The Park vs. Winterfest. Who reigns supreme? Unfortunately I've never been to either, despite saying I'll go every year. 16. Mystic Timbers mystery shed or Wicker Man fire infusion? I've only been on MT. That's another wrong to right. 17. Which Six Flags have you been to most recently? Six Flags Over Texas 18. Intamin or Schwarzkopf? You may only choose one. Intamin 19. Battle of Kings Coasters: Island or Dominion? Pick one. KI. I'm a big fan of Beast, Diamondback, and Banshee 20. What was the longest you waited for a ride/coaster in 2018? With Fast Lane had to wait 45 minutes for rides on SV. Waited for it and rode it twice. In 2017, we waited at least 2 hours to ride Flight of Passage once. It might have been 3 but I can't for my life remember. 21. What roller coaster have you ridden more than any other? Probably Nitro or the Coney Island Cyclone. 22. Best drop tower under 150 feet? The one at Lakeside is pretty good. 23. Maverick or Millennium Force? (If you haven't been to CP, pick what you want to ride more) MF 24. Log flumes or sky rides? You can only choose one. Log Flumes 25. What are 3 things you enjoying doing at your home park other than riding rides? Photography, eating, shopping 26. What is your second favorite Cedar Fair park and why? A tie between KI and KBF. KI is an old favorite from when I first got into the hobby. KBF is a classic. 27. What is your home park and give us two good reasons why we should pay it a visit. Six Flags Great Adventure has an 1) amazing classic log flume, 2) several world-class coasters, and 3) an interesting history over its 45 years as the biggest theme park accessible to the NYC and Philly Metro areas. 28. Launch or Lift? Lift. I'm old-fashioned. 29. Did you buy fast pass at all in 2018? At pretty much every park where I could. 30. What is your least favorite wooden coaster? Jupiter at Kijima Kogen 31. Disney fanboys: cool or cult? Whatever. 32. Best Batman themed ride? Batman The Dark Knight at SFNE 33. Name something that tend to take home from parks that you didn't bring with you. T-shirts 34. Best wooden coaster over 110 feet tall? (rcdb will help you) El Toro 35. Have you ever been hit with something (loose change/a tree/vomit/etc) while riding something? Just insects. 36. Skywarps: credits or no? State your case. Looking at it, I don't see any gravity involved, but I just looked at my list and it's counted. I think I need to remove that. 37. Turkey legs: nah or yaaaaassssss? Not my thing. 38. What is the most recent B&M that you rode? Shambhala at PortAventura 39. You can eat nothing but corn dogs, churros or funnel cake for the next 48 hours, which do you choose? Corn dogs! 40. Post a great on-ride shot of you from 2018. (DO IT!) Railblazer
  3. Thank you, TPR, for featuring me on the front page! Always gives me a thrill!
  4. Continued! A million thanks if you've checked this out. Have a great coaster year in 2019! Ice Mall (Israel) Hyde Park Winter Wonderland (UK) Kiddieville (UAE) Sorry, this one's out of order!
  5. Dear Theme Park Review Friends! Welcome to the 10th Edition of our "One Photo for every park we visited this year" annual report for 2018! Cheryl and I had another great year in 2018, visiting 101 different parks, fairs, and FECs all over the world. We started in New Zealand and Australia, and then visited Florida, Texas, UAE, South Korea, China, California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, France, Virginia, Ohio, British Columbia, the Netherlands, Germany, Israel, and UK. We hit some of the states more than once. In terms of credits, this was actually our 2nd best year ever, with 175 new coaster credits for me. Cheryl usually gets a few more than I do because I get rejected in China sometimes. We managed to get on several of this year's exciting new rides, including Twisted Timbers, Steel Vengeance, Railblazer, and Oscar's Wacky Taxi! I didn't think it was possible, but my photography skills continue to deteriorate. I'm lazier than ever. So sorry for that. If the France pictures look repetitive, that's because they are. The Mediterranean coast of France contains a string of seasonal parks and fairs, from the Italy border to the Spain border, and most of them don't open until near sundown (after the day's heat), so that group of photos are mostly at night. The fairs are largely carbon copies of each other, so apologies for repetitive photos. Lastly, this year marked the end of a 10-year consecutive Disney park run. Starting in 2008, we hit some Disney park somewhere in the world every year, but sadly that streak ended in 2018. We half-heartedly tried to arrange a quick Orlando hop this month, but we couldn't get it together. Next year starts in Spain! Enough wasting your time with text; better to waste your time with photos. As always, please enjoy. Happy Holidays! Note: First post is 1-99, second post is 100-101! 6. I actually think they’re replacing the water whip with a new one, but I didn’t know about the Lady Bug Coaster.
  7. You're having a world-class year! Are you on http://www.coaster-count.com? Cheers.
  8. I assume you got the credit, Looty? It was freezing and windy when we went there in April and they never opened the coaster. You didn't mention the weird sex museums on the island! When S. Korea was dirt poor, Jeju was the Niagara Falls of S. Korea, a relatively inexpensive place to honeymoon. There are 3 such museums. We visited Jeju Loveland, a sort of sex sculpture garden, and it is bizarre. I'll refrain from posting a Jeju Loveland photo (definitely nsfw), but here we are in front of Shinhwa. And there is a K-Pop museum right in front of the theme park! Meeting K-Pop Fans in front of Shinhwa Theme Park
  9. Along with yellow-checkered taxis, the best pizza, Broadway, the Empire State Building, Wall Street, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, the Met, and other touristic highlights, New York City seems to have an extraordinary number of carousels. I don't have an exact count, but there are something like 14 permanent merry-go-rounds in the Five Boroughs. Every summer, I try to visit a few of them, and I thought it would be fun to share highlights in a thread. Happy Summer Solstice (this Thursday). I'm going to start with one that I rode and photographed a couple of years ago, the SeaGlass Carousel in Battery Park, which is New York's newest major carousel, unless I'm mistaken. It's been mentioned here on TPR before, and it's worth mentioning again, because it's truly beautiful. You can read about all the technical stuff in the article, but just looking at it tells you how unique it is. It has beautiful lighting and music, an unconventional design, and it's as much a fine artwork as it is a carousel. The theme hearkens back to the days when the New York Aquarium, one of the first public aquariums in America, was located in Battery Park from 1896 until 1941, when Parks Commissioner Robert Moses controversially moved it to Coney Island, home of other famous carousels of course (Read Robert Caro's "The Power Broker" for that story, if you're an NYC history buff). The SeaGlass Carousel opened in August of 2015. I visited that October and was spellbound. It costs $5 to ride, and I urge you to check it out when you're next exploring Lower Manhattan. 12. Two for Tuesday. First a classy Twisted Colossus, and then a beautiful retro that I picked up in San Diego. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Arnolds Park Amusement Park, located on the beautiful shores of West Okoboji Lake in NW Iowa, has a classic family woodie and a nice collection of classic flats, including a rock-o-plane and a very small madhouse! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Front Back I fell in love with this Coaster when I first visited in the 90s. It was season opening day, a news crew was there, the big dance hall was still standing, and the midway seemed to be lively and thriving. Get this credit while you can; it won’t be there forever.
