  1. Hey folks, If you are not on another coaster trip, I want to invite you to sign up for Thrills in the Hills. It is the 10th anniversary of the event and we are doing some special things - one of them is a tour of our off-park rides maintenance facility - in addition to the ERT's and other events. You can go to https://www.dollywood.com/themepark/Festivals/ThrillsintheHills I look forward to seeing you on the park. Pete
  2. Pete Owens said they worked it out with Fred and are happy with the ride. Yes, I did and it is running great this pre-season. Come ride it.
  3. That's impressive - Is your favorite Thunderhead or Lightning Rod? Between the two Lightning Rod but my number one remains The Phoenix at Knoebels
  4. I don't know where that came from on the active website but this is what is on there now is: www.dollywood.com/ Unless someone found the staging or "testing web link," there is no way this was active. Our web folks are investigating the source. Yeah you guys totally never have.
  5. I saw this as well, but now it's back to saying technical rehearsal. Does anyone think we'll get a POV soon? We have not advertised the ride as fully open, ever. The tech rehearsal is ongoing. We are working to be fully open soon but we are not at this time.
  6. I am not sure who that was because all I have said today is that Dolly will be here on Thursday but we do not know what the disposition of the ride yet. Progress is being made day after day. We will let you know as soon as we know. We are as anxious as you are to have Lightning Rod open.
  7. Ok folks, only 8 days to go before Thrills in the Hills and I have a couple of slots left. Here are the highlights for your hard earned dollars: - Welcome Reception Friday with ERT on Barnstormer and Slidewinder - ERT Saturday on Thunderhead and Mystery Mine (with one free ride-photo each) - Exclusive Pre-op tour at the Dollywood Express train shop - Exclusive preview of a special summer attraction - Breakfast and lunch on Saturday with NRCMA Auction and Q and A - Exclusive seating for Dreamland Drive-in and behind the scenes tour - Dixie Stampede add-on Saturday night - DSC add-on Sunday with ERT - Dollywood add-on Sunday - First annual Midway Game competition All that for about $85 (excluding add-ons) and only $50 for passholders (excluding add-ons). Sign up today! Register Online: https://www.dollywood.com/forms/thrillsinthehills.aspx
  8. I have been on most of their coasters in the US and I would say Lightning Racer and Thunderhead have the best start to finish airtime intheir categories (O&B/Racer and twister). I totally disagree about Terminator and Renegade. They are good coasters but not their best. Kentucky Rimbler and Wildcat at Celebration City are both great small coasters. The fact is, I would put almost any GCII coaster up against anyone who build true wooden coasters (wood supporting a wooden track). Boodley is a tremendous designer. Pike has done very well in his stead.
  9. I believe we have a winner! SM at MM is not really a coaster it is more of an amusement ride but the AT is awesome.
  10. This was the worst compilation of poorly researched information I have ever read. One glaring error is the WOF accident happened ten years before they said it did. Articles like this are why people like Ed Markey gets traction. This willbe Googled or Lexis/Nexis seached and it will come up in a year or two or five years as "fact." Sad.
  11. I realize, by default, I am biased but I think the food at Dollywood is awesome. Dick and his folks at Knoebels have the best valued food in the industry. When you can get two NY style Pizza slices and a large drink for five bucks that is a great value. You throw in ice cream on a waffle for two bucks and you are VERY full for the price of a value meal at Wendy's. All that said, Dollywood's classic skillet taters or freid green tomatoes in the fall are amazing. Everyday, you can get TRUE Southern food at Dollywood at Aunt Granny's or Granny Ogle's Ham and Beans. They still serve fried baloney! The BBQ is award winning and the Backstage Restaurant was nominated for a Grammy about 10 years ago - yes, a Grammy for its catered foods for the visiting artists. If you have not tried the food at Dollywood you should. The presentation alone in the big skillets are awesome.
