  1. There is nothing wrong with the trains. Both trains are running new urmet polyurethane wheels this season which make a squealing noise against the paint on certain portions of the ride. The noises can be louder or quieter based on the weather, speed or weight distribution of the train. It’s a loud noise at times but there’s nothing wrong with the trains.
  2. Every coaster with the exception of Predator should be open this weekend. Today’s issues were staffing shortages. Still no music in the park which is very weird and you don’t realize how quiet it can be. Blast off had spools of what looked like new cables, so it’s possible they’re replacing one or all of the cables on the ride.
  3. For some reason, none of the flying bob or music express type rides in the Six Flags chain run backward cycles. My guess is it’s some sort of safety/liability concern.
  4. I went both days. Saturday, opening day was among the worst visits I’ve ever had to a park that I could remember. I’ve been to other Six Flags opening days and I get there’s always hiccups, but what a nightmare. Probably half of the rides down for most of the day, horrendous operations and food lines, computers systems going down. There were some good parts, such as the opening ceremony and enjoying some rides, but overall I did not enjoy myself, which is very rare for me at a park. Today was much much much better. Still some hiccups, but overall a very enjoyable day. Darien has a great staff and great management and they’re clearly working hard to provide a good experience; I enjoy talking to many of them about the park. I don’t understand why individual rows can’t be unlocked on ROS, this slows down the already one train operations considerably. I also was disappointed that simple things like painting handrails, gardening, etc weren’t done. The park looked a lot worse than last season, especially the pavement. I also couldn’t believe one of the columns in the Mind Eraser station still has “666 die” carved into it. How could they not paint over it? One of the most noticeable things was the dead silence in the park. Not one of the speakers was either turned on or working. I hope they fix this quick, or change over the sound system to the speakers other SF parks have. You don’t realize how much the music contributes to the atmosphere until it’s dead silent. I’m sure Six Flags will continue to make improvements, and I’m hoping they’re just a bit behind schedule.
  5. I believe Ride of Steel already has a second-gen fiberglass train that was purchased in 2016. I honetly can't see Six Flags letting their signature attraction there only have one train. If they weren't going to theme it back to DC, they might as well have kept it "Darien Lake: A Six Flags Theme Park" for another year. I say Superman returns in 2019 with a new train, but no paint.
