  1. Maybe Fun Spot should just buy Iron Gwazi from Busch Gardens, since those guys seem to have no use for it

  2. Relax, Karen. Do you really think that Great Adv maintenance, SF engineers and RMC personnel (who were likely on site for that) didn't question why it flew out? Do you really think everyone just laughed and continued on testing like "whatever brah..."? Like Bill said, those dummies are not the rigid type we're used to seeing, its a torso shaped water balloon without legs or arms. Some water gets out and its going to lose its shape and can easily slip out of the restraint. If you look at the video the park released they are to simulate weight and you can see the park actually has to tape them to the seat.

  3. Between this being picked up on Reddit and these comments here I regret ever posting it. I just thought it was funny. There doesn't need to be an investigation. It's RMC not Jeff Henry who was insane in every way that someone can be insane. Nobody is questioning why the dummy flew out because it's a glorified water balloon like this. It's not a molded plastic dummy. Also there are two of these that have run for years with even more insane pacing and the same restraints. They know what they're doing, JFC

  4. I never said thank you to those of you who replied with the status of Superman, so thanks guys, I really appreciate it! We visited the park this past Friday 5/21 and had a decent visit. It was my first visit in about 5 years and my boyfriend's first visit to the park. Overall, operations ranged from slow to okay, employees were mostly friendly and seemed to be well-trained and doing their jobs. We've just started to do a small amount of traveling again and from what we've seen thus far, the industry is really struggling on a lot of fronts. Given what we've seen this year, I have to honestly report that Six Flags America probably has the second-best operations we've seen outside of the Orlando-area parks, after Six Flags Great Adventure. I'm still debating if I really want to post our experience from this past weekend in the Busch Gardens Williamsburg thread, as operations and the general experience there were depressingly poor. In all, I'm going to give some well-deserved props to Six Flags. The two parks we've visited this year are open and truly feel like they're prepared and ready for guests. Everything was running, all food and retail stores are open, and it just feels like they're trying. And we will visit and spend our money where effort is being made. Some photos: We got to the park about 45 minutes after opening on Friday night. As we walked towards the back, we hadn't seen a train sent yet, so we were relieved to see that the entrance was open. There we go! Okay, I'm still gonna call it like I see it. This "tetanus wall" is what guests stare at while waiting for the front row on their star attraction. Would it really kill you to run to Lowe's and get a sand blaster and paint sprayer, Six Flags? I remember this being described as "lipstick on a pig" when it was first repainted/converted into a floorless. They should have repainted Superman instead. The ear smashing is as real as it was when it was a stand-up. After all these years, Wild One still delivers an excellent ride. We rode back car, middle bench, and got a smooth and decently airtime-filled ride. The barely-banked helix at the end of the ride is killer. This is a classic woodie that can hang with the rest. Where the airtime happens. Superman, despite it's paint-peeled trains, track, and station, was running great. I really wish they'd give it some cosmetic love because after 21 years this coaster truly still delivers. I'd still consider it a top-15 or top-20 coaster. The layout is super funky but gives great sensation of speed, the laterals in the second helix are intense as hell, and the last 3 hills are orgasmic airtime, especially in the front. I got this great sunset shot as we were about to head out of the park. Thanks for a fun day, Six Flags America! I don't know when we'll be back since Baltimore is a little bit out of the way for us, but this is a fun park to spend half a day at and if you haven't been on Superman, those early-2000s Intamin hypers totally destroy any of the redundant B&M models still being built every year. Maybe RMC Roar one day?

  5. #tHeWOrldIsFLaT rite? Youtubers are mostly full of shit and completely shoot from the hip. Nothing about the description suggests Cedar Point. They're having a hard enough time as it is this season, let alone adding some challenging new ride which they won't even have enough people to staff. This ride will face additional challenges from the supply chain, anyway. I can't even get a new washer and dryer until August. I don't expect anything to surface anytime soon. Regardless, I have an announcement to make for everyone that I'm going to do something awesome and world record breaking. It will be challenging. It's such a sure thing the person I'm doing it for doesn't want to announce the achievement. Stay tuned and share my publicity link.

  6. Someone should be questioning why the dummy flew out, as I can only hope they did. If it’s harmless, great. But I am sure they checked in 2005 to make sure it wasn’t a support or something else that caused the dummy’s head to fall off. It needs to be questioned, the same way it was questioned when the boats went flying off the water slide. Apples and oranges, surely nothing to be amped up about, but not something to ignore. If there’s an ejection death on Jersey Devil in the future I guarantee we will be coming back to and quoting this page.

  8. I dunno if there's anything official. . but here's my take. as Bill said: Junior pretty much any age from 2-3 and up can ride, and they are designed with seats large enough to fit parents. Kiddie, they are meant for the much littler kiddos, maybe barely walking age? another difference is that a Kiddie coaster doesn't tend to do much more than go in a small figure 8 (if that), but a Junior coaster has tracks that mimic the Adult rides, just at a smaller scale. just my take.

  9. I don't really "cosplay" on my own.. . despite the pics of me dressed as things. . mostly it's just thrown together stuff for a themed party. tho occasionally I will (such as Courtney Love, or the Justice Bowling League). this year, Marcella has an idea for a genderflipped group for the Bunny Hutch party - and myself, Travis, and Neal will be her "males" . . can't say much because she'd kill me if someone steals her idea. . but should be fun.

  10. I think it would make most sense for this to be a family coaster, but we're all hoping for something more! Also, didn't Fun Spot now build a GCI and Gravity Group woodie? ...they should definitely go with an RMC next!

  11. it's not even a junior coaster. . Wilderness Run really is a kiddie coaster. . but it was the 1st Intamin, so why not ride it the seat belt is designed for toddlers. . . but you had to be able to click it. I BARELY fit on Wilderness Run. .it was tight. So not making fun of anyone, just noting, lots of walks that night. (the Woodstock Express , which IS a Junior coaster, we fit in just fine and they were encouraging adults to ride during the day. It was pretty fun too).

The above same as you, plus a few others: Switchback Railway (ZDT's) - First wooden shuttle coaster Outlaw Run (Silver Dollar City) - First wooden coaster with inversions in the modern era Kingda Ka (SF Great Adventure) - World's tallest Monster (Adventureland) - First Gerstlauer Infinity in the U.S. Time Traveler (SDC) - First spinning coaster with inversions in the U.S. Flight of Fear (Kings Island) - First LIM coaster Buzzsaw Falls (SDC) - First Premier water coaster Mystic Timbers (KI) - First coaster where you go in the shed

  14. I want to say that at the last Coasterstock in 2019 they had in the neighborhood of 500 people. But I am not sure where I got that number, someone else might be able to confirm or tell me if I am way off base. As far as the attendees influencing the FL lines...........many will not get FL because you get to go on every coaster at some point during ert over the two days and many will use the afternoons to leave the park and take a break; on the other hand it will be in July for the first time and I am guessing park attendance will be high along with all the extra Coasterstock people. So the answer to the FL question is the same as any other day. If you want every coaster and re rides and have the money get them it will be worth it. If you have multiple days and are satisfied with whatever you get and/or cannot afford it, don't get them. I really don't think Coasterstock is the influencer on FL.

  16. Flight of Fear will get the longest line in the park, followed by Backlot Stunt Coaster and Twisted Timbers; try to hit them early. I305, if its running, and Dominator are people-eaters and will never get substantial lines all day. Woodstock Express is a solid junior coaster with solid airtime in the back row; you could also hit this early to avoid being lined up with a bunch of kids. Here's how I'd plan a day here without Fast Lane: -When you enter the park, head left in the gap in International Street and head to Woodstock Express. -Then go to Flight of Fear, ride it. -I305 if its running. -Backlot Stunt Coaster -Making your way down Candy Apple Grove, hit Drop Tower. -Twisted Timbers -Apple Zapple -Windseeker -Racer 75 -Grizzly -Flying Eagles (flyers) -Blue Ridge Tollway (great drive-'em cars through the woods) -If you're of drinking age, grab some at the bar near the log flume. -Shenandoah Lumber Company (log flume) -If you like spin-and-swing rides (I don't), head down the ramp through the woods to the Carosel, and go left to Delirium. -Stop by Mac Bowl for awesome Mac and Cheese. -Bad Apple (Troika) -Anaconda -Head back to I305, if it's running. -If not, head up to Dominator. -Berserker -If you've got time left in the day, head back to Twisted Timbers and marathon until closing. If you DO have Fast Lane+, do whatever you want after Woodstock Express, Flight of Fear, Anaconda, Racer 75, and Apple Zapple ...these are all not on Fast Lane. FoF has been on Fast Lane in the past, but it's not listed on the website this year. Oh, and row recommendations for the coasters: -Woodstock Express: Back -Flight of Fear: Back -I305: Front for speed, back for Gs, both are insane. -Backlot: Back, I guess. Anywhere is fine. -Twisted Timbers: Back!!! -Apple Zapple: n/a -Racer 75: Any non-wheel seat, I prefer row 2 or5. -Grizzly: Front -Anaconda: Front -Dominator: Back

  17. You don't need a ton of tips but I guess maybe ride Twisted Timbers first and Apple Zapple (since it's right there) and then Flight of Fear early since they're very low capacity rides and sometimes lines can get long. Not sure of your age or if you can / like to drink but if you do, I recommend the Parched Pig by the log flume. If you're getting Fastlane, ride Anaconda early as it's not on it or don't ride it all because it sucks. Your call...

  18. On the topic of the topper track being dead: I’m at Silver Dollar City for my first visit today and rode Outlaw Run as my first topper track RMC. First ride was in the front row, and it was great - a little bumpy but definitely nothing this 34 couldn’t handle. Then we rode in the back row (row 12). Holy eff. That ride hurt me in a way I’ve never in my life been hurt on a coaster. It was brutal. Several pot holes that I swear compressed my spine a quarter inch or so. It took me by complete surprise to the point that I didn’t really even remember most of the ride because I was too focused on it being over. I’ve done several other RMCs - Steel Vengeance, Twisted Colossus, New Texas Giant, Twisted Cyclone - all obviously IBox, and Lightning Rod this year, which is mostly IBox now (and you can tell a different in the sections that were redone). But Outlaw Run today was night and day when compared to every other RMC I’ve done. It was unpleasant in the back to say the least. I did give it another try in a non-wheel seat in the middle of the train, and it was tolerable again, but yikes - if this is how topper track RMCs are going to age, it makes complete sense that no park would want anything to do with installing a new one. I also wonder if Outlaw Run being the first topper track had anything to do with its roughness, and if Wildfire, their most recent installation, will age better, but damn. I’ve always considered myself “not a wimp” when it comes to roughness - Magnum is one of my all time favorites, I’ve never been put off by a B&M rattle, and usually find traditional woodies fun when they jostle me around a bit. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

  20. just remember. . the one at 5 points is "family friendly" (ie: touristy) the one on Peachtree (only 5 MARTA stops down from the Peachtree Center stop where the Con is), is way more adult in both decor, and waitstaff interaction. That's our favorite. KILLER drinks too. it just wouldn't be a trip to Atlanta without a stop at Vortex for some amazing food, some good comedy (if a show is going on in the attached comedy club), and a rub on the Phallus shrine for luck completely honest. . the moment our entire "core" group gets checked in across the various hotels? we head out to Vortex for a meal. (and thruout con end up going back with friends here and there as they missed the initial meal, and wanna go) here are pics from a couple of visits from 2019 (the last Dragon*con they had before 2020 went virtual)

  22. I was gonna react to how overblown this has become, but coasterbill beat me to it. To pinpoint off of his post, the main purpose of the water dummy is NOT to test if the restraints properly work, it's to test if the train can actually complete the circuit the course, under typical weights of riders, without stalling, valleying, or exerting excessive force or wear to the track and/or structure. In fact, if the water dummy was an actual person, it wouldn't be able to ride Jersey Devil or any of the coasters at GAdv or any major amusement park. A paraplegic person cannot be safely restrained on a roller coaster, so any human that lacks arms or legs like the water dummy wouldn't be able to ride. The Ride of Steel incident at Darien Lake is a prime example why: there was nothing wrong at all with the coaster, the victim should've never been allowed to ride and sadly paid the ultimate price.

  23. the Aquarium is very worth it (but I wouldnt' give up a night of the con to do the "Aquarium night". . we just go the day before con starts, or on Tuesday. . . on Labor Day, I blow off con and go to SFOG, but since they will be open during the week this time (!), will prolly go Wednesday or Thursday during the day. as to Vortex? I'll be there at LEAST 3 times during the week I'm in Atlanta (not the 5 points location, but the Peachtree one). .their food is simply that good, and the place that much fun.

  24. This is all a bit of an overreaction. I'm assuming that the reason Kentucky Kingdom's rule only applies to people under the age of 16 is that they're hiring 16-year-olds to run their rides on their employment page as we speak. They do have some positions for 14-year olds but not many of them seem to be unfilled on the website and they don't seem to be as desperate for staff as Cedar Fair parks are. It would be a weird look to tell people that they don't trust 16-year-olds to go to the park without starting a riot but they 100% trust them to operate multi-million-dollar rides full of guests safely without killing anyone / handle guests money / work in guest-facing positions all day. Also, "Free admission to the park on your days off." is the first benefit listed on their employment page. Since working there offers no real benefits whatsoever aside from that and "cheap pizza and soda", there's nothing they can do about that and every theme park would be in the same boat. Kings Island hires 14 year olds also and once again, the only "benefits" are "Come to the park for free". Sure, they would probably make exceptions for their employees but "No benefits, you can't hang out with any of your friends here on your days off but you can buy soda for a dollar and ride the Beast by yourself" is not going to get you a ton of takers when you're more desperate for employees than you've ever been in the entire history of the park / chain. There's not a simple solution here. I'm assuming they'll bring in some more security for awhile and that will be the end of it.

  26. For comparison. . here's the official POV for Wilderness Run (and note they refer to it as a kiddie coaster in the description) Let the kids take a virtual ride on Wilderness Run! Sit back, relax and enjoy this POV on this popular kiddie coaster. and here's Woodstock Express, which is a Junior coaster, and is described thusly: Woodstock Express is the perfect ride for your roller-coaster-riders in training! Sit back and enjoy the speedy bends and hills. it's interesting that they are right across the walkway (maybe 20 feet) from each other.

  31. Fingers crossed the appeal is successful. Again, I know it's only concept art, but a modern Vekoma would be the most perfect addition to this park's collection. (Besides a traditional hyper...but I'm guessing we'll never be seeing one of those at Grona Lund. lol)

  32. so. . 15 days back on plan, and slowly working my way back up to 1:30 walks. (today's was 1:20, and until today, been doing ~1:15 for a week). still struggling with portion control, but no sodas, no fast food, and no eating after 8pm is working for me. so in 15 days of exercise, I'm down ~5.5 lbs. today I weighed in at 203.2 lbs (started at 208.8 back on 5/11). i think I'll hit my goal of 200 or under by end of month (fingers crossed)

  34. I mean... I'm pretty big into fitness, but I don't think I could cast judgement on someone who couldn't fit into a junior coaster. Any of us could probably be one bad binge season away from a walk of shame on Woodstock Express, considering it looks like your knees can slam the headrest of the car in front of you. ^ Dude in the green was probably in a leg cast the next day.

Back on topic.. personally I am hoping this is not a Raptor clone but a custom family coaster. I'd really like to see on of those pop up and at a FEC too would be pretty cool. Since their announcement mentions the design phase I'm hoping that's a hint it won't be a plug and play clone of any sort but a custom layout.

  36. We went to the park yesterday and had an awesome time. We met up with JRice, El Toro_Ryan and some of their friends and for the first time in years got Platinum Flash Passes and got to act like ballers in our home park. I won't make a habit of that but it was a blast, and we did have some free one-time upgrades with our passes that we got to use. Just a few cliff notes: - We got to watch a few Jersey Devil Test runs. The ride hauls ass. It hauls so much ass that we watched it throw a test dummy into the woods. They clearly weren't concerned as they kept cycling it with one empty seat... I guess as a sign of respect for their fallen comrade. - Wonder Woman's loading process is no longer atrocious! They're loading all seats, which means that the only ride not back to it's normal loading procedure is Log Flume which hopefully stays that way forever. - On that note, I rode the flume for the first time in years since we normally only go to this park very early or very late in the season and because we hate it's grouping process of cramming as many strangers as possible together in a log. It's awkward and nobody likes it. Yesterday I got my own log (Brit bailed as this one tends to be on the wetter side and the rest of the group was suffering through a ride on Green Lantern so that a few members of the groups could get their first-and-last-ever rides on it. F*ck that). It was awesome! Please load one group per log forever like every other park. Anyway, I forgot how good this flume was. Also, it's really cool riding what's basically a brand-new Arrow log flume since they've replaced every section of the ride at this point over the last 5 years or so. - Has it been mentioned that the kiddy coaster is currently being painted right near Nitro's first drop in clear-view of everyone? I'd absolutely put my money on our 2022 addition being a combination of new and re-branded kids rides in a new kids area. I know that this will probably draw some complaints, but it will fill a very clear need and would be a really smart addition after a giant new coaster that forced the closure of so many kids rides. - We tried and failed twice to ride Zumanjaro while Kingda Ka was running but we saw it happen tons of times throughout the day. - We heard a few ops mention that the park was crazy-understaffed but you wouldn't know it. Basically every food stand was open, every ride was open, Skyway was running both sides and the Parachutes were running every single chute which never happens. Flume and Rapids were both open. All upcharge rides were even open. Great job, Six Flags! - I forgot how great Nitro runs in the summer. We're not used to riding it when it's above 35 degrees but that airtime hill after the hammerhead brings it. - I'm not an anti-masker. I appreciate that masks have allowed us to do go to parks, travel and live our lives throughout a global pandemic BUT I'm glad they're gone outdoors now. Walking around a theme park without a mask on felt incredible. Yesterday was the first time in a long time that the world felt totally normal. (Photo stolen from Josh) PS: nobody cares about this but I'm still mad about it and this is my soapbox so whoever thought of closing the car lanes northbound the entire length of the Jersey Turnpike on a Sunday night the weekend before Memorial Day when it was 90 degrees all weekend for scheduled construction is a total jackass. Big-brain moves right there. If you're visiting the park in the next few weeks check the traffic app before you leave if heading northbound. You might have to do something dumb like take 295 or 1 north from Trenton. Don't do what we did and just assume that the Turnpike will be fine.

  47. Kennywood had a sweepstakes contest for the Jack Rabbit's 100th anniversary last year with 100 winners of a season pass. They postponed the party to this year, but it finally happened yesterday, Opening Day. Since I was one of the winners, we got to enter the park early for an hour of ERT. Of course, Kennywood really took a nosedive this past offseason with the removal of four rides. But the rest of the park is not even close to being up to standard. Steel Curtain apparently valleyed, despite being hyped up by the park to be ready for opening day. You could see one of the trains in pieces from the Jack Rabbit (along with pieces from the Paratrooper). Black Widow is also now officially in its third season of being closed. The third train on Thunderbolt is gone and isn't coming back because they built a fence around where it was kept on the transfer track. They never used three trains at once but just kept a spare like the Jack Rabbit, which also has three. I'm hoping that they'll still run two in the future, but on Opening Day, just one was being used. Phantom was on one train too. Shocking, right? You can see how they're filling every row, which is done now on every coaster. Alright, here's the four pictures you might be interested in! You could mistake the Volcano as just being down for the day if you didn't look too closely. The social distancing markers are even still in the queue line. The most depressing fence in the world took the place of Bayern Kurve. I heard that it may have been sold to California's Great America for parts (not to Knoebels for parts). Paratrooper had some trees planted on its plot. But I was glad to see that the door still may be open to a return of the Kangaroo. Like the Volcano, the control system, operator booth, and queue line all still exist. If the park has a profitable summer, I think it could come back in the future. I mean, If you look at the Kennywood Facebook page, literally every post - 6 months after its removal was announced - has at least one troll saying KANGAROO or whatever. The simple move of bringing this one ride back would get them so much good publicity and would make people forget about the other three ride removals. Along with Racer (my favorite KW coaster - weird, I know) the Old Mill is one of my favorite rides in the park even though it's a low-budget retheme. At the complimentary lunch in the pavilion next to the Jack Rabbit, there was a trivia contest, and I was very happy to win an old decorative piece from one of the trains for answering a nerdy question. Crowds were high all day, but I wonder how many of these people are just using their free passes from last year (like me). I would guess that they made up the majority of people visiting. Not the best of times at the park, but at the end of the day, I can't complain about a free season pass and a free lunch!
