time for some more Cedar points pictures. The next day started cloudy but it get pretty warm that day. Fun times walking around in the sun, not having to stress about getting or rides and taking lots of pictures Here's a couple from that day. nice way to start the day, it was fast.. and long (ish) but that was it (for me) I had been in Expedition GeForce just a couple of weeks earlier.. and that ran crazy awesome that day, so this just felt mehh maverick was so much fun to ride and look at still wondering what would be with the inversion here.. airtime for the win fog gave a nice effect mean streak was pretty bad even back then another crazy memory and picture from that trip launches are always photo-genic and yeah.. i did a long walk outside the park as well.. to finish this update. was a fun visit next up Kennywood.4 points

Compliments of Cedar Fair (specifically Kings Island and Kings Dominion) https://open.spotify.com/playlist/65REf5thv8onz5MKVEql4n?si=xoG1qBhJQgG-jvyEi6J4pg&utm_source=copy-link&dl_branch=1 You're welcome!3 points

Well the woodies run one train all the time...and the ops are hit or miss so those lines can range from 45 minutes to an hour and half, although they tend to change throughout the day. The park counts their busy season as the 4th of July through Labor Day, but some days are better than others. Days to definitely stay away from are Opening Weekend, 4th of July, Toyota Tuesdays, or pretty much any day the waterpark is closed. Boulder Beach (the attached waterpark) is the "people eater" for the park, so not having it open really puts too much of a burden on the theme park. I think the Canadian border is still closed so that will help a bit, especially if you go later in the summer. The best days are weekdays in June when the waterpark is open, but I've also had good luck with weekdays later in the season as well. Get to the park at 10:15 and rope drop either the wooden coasters if your starting with the theme park, or Ricochet Rapids and Avalanche Mountain if your starting with the waterpark. You should be able to do each at least 2-3 times with little to no wait before the crowds show up. In general, the earlier you get there and the later you stay the better the crowds will be. Some other random tips: -Aftershock can't run in cold weather or if there's winds above 150'. If it's closed in the morning, wait till mid-afternoon (around 3 or so) and it will probably open up. You can see it testing from almost anywhere in the park, so if you see it testing start making your way over there. -The back seat is probably the best on all the coasters. Although I'm sure someone here will disagree... -Don't go to the train at the last minute, or it will be full. You should get there about 15 minutes before it leaves (the top of every hour). The best seats are either the open-air car in the middle or and further back. Make sure you sit on the side of the train station (right hand side) for the best views of the stunt show. -Chuckwagon John's (in the picnic pavilions behind Tremors) is THE BEST!!! It's all-you-can-eat BBQ, plus salad corn bread, drinks, mash potatoes, etc. Other solid options are the High Moon Saloon on Main Street, and the bake goods at the Victorian Coffee House and Silverwood Coffee Roasting and Trading. The new paninis at Caselli's over by Corkscrew look good (haven't tried them but they look really good). Most everything else is maybe slightly above average theme park food, better than Six Flags or Cedar Fair but nothing to write home about. If you want ice cream go to the South Creamery across from Panic Plunge, it has the same ice cream the main Ice Creamery is famous for but with shorter lines. -Stunt Pilot opens on May 29. It has two trains but it's a real wild card on if they'll use them, how popular it will be, how it will effect crowds on the other rides. -The magic show is really good, it's won some awards, and it's pretty popular but you can usually get a seat if you get there about 10-15 minutes before the show starts. Nick Norton is the magician everyone talks about, but Isaiah Daniels (Nick's protégé) is also pretty good. -Enjoy yourself!! The park is really pretty all times of the year, and there's more to see and do than there initially seems so take a little time and enjoy it all!3 points

^Fixed! Oh, and I may be able to win this one! Offhand my guess would be the time I rode the mall roller coaster in Adelaide, Australia when I lived in Sarasota, FL. Total distance: 9,992.86 mi (16,081.95 km)2 points

I wonder if they could put the new lap bar only restraints on Maverick. That would be AWESOME!!2 points

Or they could just close it and leave it rot and not put anything there, which is the cheapest and likeliest option.2 points

Everyone focusing on the record-breaking, and talking about most inversions just reminds me of the original Smiler rumors that the first section of track would be a washing machine style spinning piece of track that could be adjusted to make sure the ride never lost its record of most inversions. I know marketing loves the word record breaking but it can be anything, look at Hagrid's coaster. The fact it's a Harry Potter roller coaster sells itself but they jumped through so many hoops trying to justify the 'biggest free-fall' or ' first story based coaster' so they could stick some records on there. Everyone's going to end up very disappointed when this record breaking coaster is just the washing machine spinner, a 5ft lift hill and drop and then a turn back to the station and the challenging location is the corner of a giant arcade.2 points

If it's anything like the other SF parks throughout the chain, yeah, they're honoring them. In fact, they're probably still selling them and issuing them to people that buy the plan.1 point

^ leave it drained, and an instant up-charge skate-board park attraction. Kewl for the kids, bruh !1 point

They have so many empty areas already. I expect this to be a straight budget cut. Will they replace it some day? Maybe... but I don't think they closed it for any other reason than it's an expensive ride to operate.1 point

So a few years ago they had 3 water rides and they removed all but the worst one? ... cool1 point

They normally park trains there. Don't read anything into it. As Bill said, Ka will never launch a train with passengers while Zu's cars are anywhere other than the station.1 point

Nice Pictures. I rode Maverick opening year and it has been mu number 1 since! Still a crazy amazing ride to this day1 point

I'm a little bummed I won't be able to visit the park (for the first time) this summer as planned. I told myself I would make the drive up there from Utah as soon as they add an RMC, and of course the year they add it I got a great job offer out in Florida that I took. Obviously my enthusiast-self has zero complaints about moving near all the Florida parks, but dang. I did wanna give Silverwood a shot before leaving the West. Maybe someday. I am mostly drawn to Aftershock since I really enjoyed Deja Vu at SFMM and rode it again as Goliath at SFNE where it is utter garbage now. Of course Stunt Pilot looks fantastic as well.1 point

Screamin' Eagle was fun enough, but that FunSpot really has the Mini Golf as the top draw (in my opinion)1 point

That might work, I will check them out. We are driving into Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge the next morning and while we have done most of the mountain coasters there, we did have Anakeesta and one of the Rowdy Bear ones in PF that was still being built last time we were there to add as well. We couldn't do Anakeesta because it was closed to high wind. Then I found out when rescheduling the zipline that the coaster up there was hit by lightening and is currently closed pending a part coming from Wiegand..........! Will do our best but it's always a crapshoot trying to hit that milestone with a particular coaster. He's 17 so it's important now but you know, probably won't be in 10 years.1 point

I don't mind the bluegrass music and I agree that it totally fits the theming of SDC and DW, not as much at CF parks. BUT when they started playing bluegrass versions of Bon Jovi and in particular Africa by Toto at KI...........ummm. No. Maybe I am just too much of a city girl. Or an 80's girl. Or both.1 point

Actually, before she brought the pizza out, she asked me if I wanted it cut, or to "cut it myself?" I decided to cut it myself, expecting a "pizza cutter wheel" ..... and I got the scissors. And it worked great!1 point

Well, welcome to the coaster desert!! Really glad to help! Silverwood (family owned, smaller/less-frequent major investments, no rides over 200 ft tall,) is no Carowinds (Cedar Fair, Fury, lots of investment, need I say more?) by most standards, but I think it's the best the PNW has as far as the whole package goes (Good wooden coasters, unique/rare steel coasters, descent water park, good entertainment, and great landscaping/atmosphere). Wild Waves is a Six Flags wannabe (except the budget is like a 10th of Six Flags'), and Enchanted Forest is too small to get much. Oaks Park has been more aggressive lately, so that could get interesting, although I think COVID was quite the set back for them. Would love to hear your thoughts when you get back!1 point

Wow, thanks. Fantastic write-up and great info. I'll hang on to this. Moved out here a few years ago and really miss having so many coasters and parks within a day's driving distance (Carowinds was my home park). It's slim pickings out here...1 point

Speaking of this, as I mentioned in the SDC thread a construction fence was put up around the Waterboggan Tower area thru where the final turn of the railway is. It's a pretty small & wooded piece of land. I remember it being rumored for years SDC was supposed to get their version of Mystery Mine so who knows maybe it's finally happening. EDIT: That and we know SDC has been obsessed with making record breaking "world's first" attractions as of late.1 point

The same discussions have been going more than a decade, since SixFlagsStL.net (or whatever that url was) ... in a nutshell, Six Flags will fix the Infrastructure then we will finally get a new massive coaster. We need more attendance before anything worthwhile comes our way... yada yada. Yes we are a hopeful bunch.1 point

After six flags we drove to Cedar Point. Arrived there late at night.. but they had no power. so i think we got some flashlights and made it to our rooms. As i could see Dragster from the room window i tried to make some pictures while the entire park/area was dark. not my best pictures, but still. The next morning we all woke up early (after a short night) to get in line for the new hotness that was called Maverick.. i'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story 10 second exposure attempt this was a little better at 30 seconds.. but yeah.. it was dark. power is back so the next morning we got in line... for Maverick while waiting in line... and then this came.. yeah.. it was about to get a lot more wet. after heading back to the hotel, having a bite and fun there at the bar the rain stopped late in the afternoon. The park and all the rides opened and i left my camera in the hotel room to not have to worry about a bag and just get the rides in. We had another day at the park and plenty of time to get some decent pictures that sky was the craziest sky i had seen in a long long long time. Welcome to Cedar Point1 point

I keep asking the Time Traveler gift shop to sell a CD of the queue music, it's REALLY good. They won't because of rights issues but a fella can dream.1 point

Whenever I watch a video on YouTube and they use a bluegrass-type background music (usually on the TRY Channel when they try American stuff), it immediately makes me long to be at Dollywood. Bluegrass is one of the great unique things about Herschend's two main parks. You hear it all around you as you walk around under the trees and along the babbling brooks. Those parks wouldn't feel right with modern music. For example, at SDC, they do the whole "Moonlight Madness" thing... When they do, they switch over the modern music, and the level of jarring that is to hear is BEYOND. I was in line for Thunderation and they started playing "Build Me Up Buttercup" in the queue and I was floored. It just did not feel right. I don't know if they still do that (haven't been to MM in years), but I do know from vids on YT that they finally clued in and started playing the bluegrass covers of modern songs, at least in the queue for Time Traveler. And I know I heard bluegrass covers at the buffet at Dollywood, too, a few years ago. That is how you integrate modern music into these parks. Younger people will be standing in line and then suddenly their ears will prick up and they'll realize that their favorite Lady Gaga song is playing, but as bluegrass! It's really, really fun to listen to bluegrass covers of modern songs, to get an idea of what these songs might have sounded like if written a hundred years ago. It's unique. So if they want to continue to use/add modern songs, but as bluegrass covers, I'm all for that.1 point

Everyday I check this forum, and I see numerous people of different walks of life all coming together to share and talk about this park. A park that is “bottom” of the chain. Yet, we have one of the most populated forums on this site. If anything, our continuous nitpicking and wishing of what could be, just shows how dedicated we are as a fan base. Always thinking and wondering, ever curious. I hope we can all take a step back and acknowledge that even though the park may not be perfect, it brings us a sense of community and family that not much else can. I am always motivated about the future of this park by the stories and memories these acres have brought. I wish you all a happy 50th anniversary.1 point

wait. .didn't Motley *swear* they would never tour again? even making that big deal about signing a contract saying they would never tour again? I guess Vince needs the money? it would be great if Mick Mars is able to play (hell, I'd go see him play even if he had to just be placed on a throne/stool, and played the whole night sitting down)1 point

I remember reading somewhere that the reason Kingda Ka is so much rougher than Top Thrill Dragster is because the center of gravity of the train is much higher due to the OTSRs and hydraulic cylinders being located behind the seat back rather than on the floor. Soft straps would eliminate the neck banging but the train would still probably shuffle like crazy at the high speeds. Although I'm skeptical if Six Flags would even spend the money on that.1 point

One more thing worth mentioning, if you are trying to hit the park without reserving far in advance, good reservation times are opening up as it gets closer to the date if you check every hour or so. I was just able to reserve an 11:30 slot for tomorrow about 2 minutes ago. Tomorrow's slots have been full for over a day now and this 11:30 slot had been gone for over a week.1 point

At the risk of veering off topic, people are just incredibly selective in what causes of death they choose to care about. People only care if it's high-profile, tragic accident, something new and scary, etc... The last year should have proven that. We told the most obese country in the world to stay home for months and not go to the gym because it was extremely dangerous but deemed fast food Drive Thrus essential all in the name of public health. What is the leading cause of death in America over the last 12 months? Heart disease... by a mile. Just like it always is. What are we doing about it? Well, Disney Springs just opened a place where you can buy grilled cheese on a donut bun a few days ago but don't worry, capacity is limited and you have to stand on social distancing markers to get one. They also opened a giant cookie place recently and it had a 10 hour virtual queue. It's sort of the same thing as this. Way more people have been killed driving to and from Kings Island over the years than at Kings Island but literally nobody cares about that because we're just used to it. PS: This is not a commentary about covid restrictions, plenty of them make sense. It's just a point about how selective people are with this kind of thing.1 point
