  1. Cedar Point is a great choice. A totally flat park with tons of land is notoriously difficult to build on, plus if they do a coaster like Smiler it can easily break the record for most wind closures in a single season.

  2. You must be new around here if you think I’m a “boot licker” for SFMM. I’m just someone who realizes covid enforcement is a joke everywhere now and understands that if you chose to go somewhere you know will be a gathering place for thousands of strangers, you assume the risks that go with it. But some would rather aim for tik tok clout than just say “I don’t feel comfortable here. I’m out.” There is no entry level job in America that pays enough for anyone to care about enforcing things for all but the worst of the worst violators of covid precautions. Nor is there a business capped at 25% that can sustain throwing a crap ton of extra labor at something and be expected to make any money. You accept this reality when you visit any theme park right now. Should it be that way? In a perfect world, no, of course not. But in the real world...that’s how every park, stadium, large store, airport, and so on is actually operating.

  3. Let's get this thread back on track... Like others have said, this is a very odd announcement as you'd think a real park wouldn't want something like this announced ahead of THEIR announcement but it's a weird world nowadays so... My guess is Jersey Shore. Weren't they always rumored to get something crazy, and this company is very Jersey friendly from what I understand.

  4. Oh this thread should be fun. Can we just rename it to "Crackpot Predictions" already and get it over with?

  5. Holy sh*t I'm not disagreeing with him. Are you nuts or dumb? None of what he is pointing out has anything to do with the question I asked nor does it answer it. The gif is my frustration about the fact that he wants to be Ultimo-I-Know-Everything-Enthusiast-Nerd when no one asked. Forget I even asked, the level of crazy/stupid posters on this forum is at an all time high (which is saying something).

  6. Six Flags is going to open their park as much as possible to as many people as possible as soon as possible. That's been their playbook chain-wide throughout. Right now it looks like they're close-to-full and likely to end up totally booked every day for awhile so there's no harm in keeping the restriction as long as it doesn't impact them and makes it look like they're being careful but the second they feel like lifting it will make them more money, they will. I expect them to do it very soon.

  7. Sorry in advance for the double post but... STUNT PILOT OPENS MAY 29!!!! WHOO YEAH!!!! So hopefully with no delays will all be riding it by then! I am really looking forward to this. Unfortunately, I can't be there for opening day but I can't wait to ride it later this summer! Let's see if SeaWorld/Busch Gardens and Six Flags Great Adventure were taking notes... Sorry for the bad image, I screenshotted it from the new commercial they debuted during today's episode of the Silverwood Show. Here's the full episode where they talk about their flower wall and do the "Riptide Racer Trick Shot Challenge", in addition to showing off Stunt Pilot's commercial and opening date:

  9. so what's the point of it being an "indoor park" when many of the slides seem to go outside for a portion. if it rains, do they close off those slides?

  15. SFMM can take that vaccine card and shove it. and for member called JEW, keep politics out of it, by saying republican states are worse. Republican states arent living in fear.

  16. Most parks last year didn't ask for any proof of anything. None of the parks in states that required a covid test to travel there actually checked. They just had the covid exposure questions and I think they assumed everyone would automatically say yes/no. The only park I saw take the covid questions super seriously was Canobie. The security guards would change the wording each time so you couldn't just blindly answer yes or no.

  17. In the same way that MM isn't checking for proof of residency, I'd be astounded if they actually checked for vaccination status by doing anything more than asking "Are you vaccinated?" or making you click a box somewhere.

  18. Cool aerial photograph that Alabama Adventure posted just in case anybody wanted to see it. Pretty cool to see how the park has changed in recent years. Especially since 2018.

  20. Man I wish I could have experienced that sequence. Airtime pop off of the turnaround (still there), positive Gs, airtime pop on bunny hill, back to positive, then a little float topping the hill into the next curve. With another airtime pop after that curve. And also lats due to less banking. But alas I never rode it in the buzz bar era.

  21. Who wants to be the first to ride Stunt Pilot? The park will be hosting an auction for the first train (10 riders)! The proceeds for the auction will benefit the local Children's Village, which provides care and support to children who have been abused, neglected, or have family crisis going on. It's also the same organization that the donations from the train ride and the tips jars in the park go to, which the Norton family matches every year. Bids are starting at $40. Here is the link to the auction for anyone intereted: https://one.bidpal.net/stuntpilot/welcome Quick note that I got the link from a Coeur d' Alene Press article that came out this morning, so I'm assuming that the park will announce further details today as I had not previously heard about the auction. Here's a link to the article: https://cdapress.com/news/2021/apr/22/stunt-pilot-soars-opening-date/ The other interesting thing about the auction isn't the auction at all...it's that on the page where you bid for each seat is some previously unseen (at least I've never seen it) concept art for Stunt Pilot's trains! I like how the front car has a slightly different design, so I'm hoping that thats how it really looks! May 29 here we come!!

  24. My guess (and that's all it is) would be Cedar Point. After Xcelerator opened at Knotts, CP built a bigger version in Top Thrill Dragster. Now that Knotts has HangTime and Carowinds Copperhead Strike, Cedar Point needs a multi loop sit down coaster. Cokscrew is 45 years old, and the other loop coasters in the park are floorless or wingrider or dive coaster models. Even Steel Vengeance has more upside down elements. I got all of this straight from my Dippin' Dots guy. He knows someone who saw something so it's basically fact.

  25. ^ It was expensive when I visited that Kalahari back in November, but it was less than half that. I also visited on a weekday and the place had just opened, so I'm guessing not many people knew about it. I can understand why a place like Kalahari jacks up the rates to keep crowds low for the hotel guests. The DreamWorks Water Park is a bit of a different story since it's not attached to a hotel. But if they can reach the crowd levels they want charging those prices, all power to them. I only visited once. I loved the park. But I went on a weekday when I was one of like 50 people in the whole park, so it felt like I had the place to myself.

  26. ^Most of what I have right now can be divided into two groups: Comic/Graphic novel related or Disney. When I go looking now, it's kind of what speaks to me. I will go after select figures in certain poses/outfits in a wave. Like there's a half dozen Kong figures for Godzilla vs Kong--I'm specifically wanting the Kong with the axe. Or when I saw a Hot Topic exclusive version of Elsa in her Into the Unknown dress which I passed on because I already had an Elsa. And there are a couple store-exclusive figures I've purchased on clearance not because I wanted them, but to put in storage and maybe resell them later when the value (hopefully) goes up. And yes, the members of my household like to challenge each other to find Waldo.

  27. Hahaha, sorry @Nrthwnd. To be honest, I don't know where the "A" came from. I guess if it came from abbreviating Texas, it would technically be NTXG. I just remember people using NTAG around the time it was new and it just became habit. I should've clarified! But yeah, unless some small random park totally splurged, I think there is a high chance this is a Cedar Fair park. I suppose Kings Dominion is also a possibility, although Volcano's plot wouldn't be the first "challenging location" that comes to mind since it is quite large and open.

  30. NTAG was the abbreviation many used for New Texas Giant (not sure where the A comes from) but yeah. Bottom line is, manufacturers and parks that get into these kind of nasty legal disputes don’t often shack back up with new projects unless there’s some kind of reconciliation. Gerstlauer was not involved in any of Six Flags (or any other) RMC conversions after this incident.

  36. Got the pleasure of watching Velocicoaster cycle last weekend and can't overstate how incredible this things looks in person. Between the pacing, the wonky transitions, and the fantastic theming (the foliage looks like its been growing for decades)...seems like this is going to be the coaster experience to beat. Crazy how much my interest in the Universal Orlando Resort has grown with just two (very wise) additions.

  37. Woah...okay first of all you just grouped all magic mountain employees as "not giving a fuck" which is not true at all. Even just this season I have encountered many amazing ride ops and employees at the park. And he is not bootlicking anyone, he is giving them some leeway for mistake...like this can't be perfect. Magic Mountain is trying it's crazy to pretend like they aren't at least trying to do their best given their resources and the rules.

  38. ^^Thanks for the TR. I really think at this point most of us visiting parks have to assume that there will be very little Covid compliance and we have to make our own choices. We're fully vaccinated, wear our masks, and distance as best we can from others. I'll be pretty comfortable visiting parks this summer but I totally understand people who aren't.
    1 point
  39. People are generally over it and even parks that did a great job with covid protocols last summer are struggling now. The data coming out now is highlighting just how insanely rare outdoor transmission is with even incredibly left-leaning publications calling for an end to outdoor mask mandates (and I'm someone who is generally very pro-mask but data is data) but if that doesn't put you at-ease then I would not recommend that you visit a park right now. Most parks don't have enough staff to enforce this and compliance is going to get worse every day from here-on-out.
    1 point
  40. ^Exactly. California is such a huge, diverse state... the rule just makes no sense at all. I do hope this vaccination card thing extends to theme parks though, or they just eliminate the in-state rule completely.

  41. Rules like this are why people are sick of all of these covid restrictions. Someone from Yuma who is fully vaccinated and got their second shot in February can go to SeaWorld because they have some whales and ride coasters or they can go to the San Diego Zoo and ride the Skyway but they can't go to Magic Mountain because they're more of a risk than someone who's not vaccinated who just flew to LA from Sacramento to go to the park and never got tested? ...k

  42. I'm going to just say the web page design for Six Flags is trash. Not that it really matters but they also are including some rides anywhere on the list (the one that comes to mind in the Sky Screamer). For those of us who really would notice we already would know what rides the park has.

  44. That last shot of Black Mamba is particularly good. The theming really enhances this coaster (all the trees and trenches--not to mention the drumbeats as you leave the station).

  45. I recently asked about Traveling to CP from the UK for the first time and after seeking advice I decided the best option was to wait for next year to visit..... ...but I couldn't wait and went ahead and booked a trip for this year instead... Soo. We are traveling for the first time to CP and will have three days there from the 3rd September. We are interested mostly in the rollercoasters but will sample the other attractions if we have time. I'd like to know the best plan of attack for the time that we have there. Sorry, this must have been asked a million times. Maybe there is a good reference guide for what to do when somewhere but any pointers are appreciated.
