Cedar Point "Winter Point" Photos

Headed into the park today and brought my camera. There is just something about a park in the winter.

Winterized parks just look cool. The GP needs to see pictures of parks in the offseason, that way they understand what goes into closing and reopening a park for the season. But then again, that could backfire, and they could say, "OMG! THEY LIKE TOTALLY TAKE THE RIDES APART, THERE'S NO WAY I'M GETTING ON THAT THING NEXT YEAR!!!!"

^They have no idea......but they should get one. That's why i think it's cool when parks post stuff like this on their Facebooks and websites so the GP can get an idea of just how much labor goes on behind the scenes and while the park is closed.

For us Southern California folk it's always nice to see some snow we're glad we don't live in!

Hey! Speak for yourself! I absoultely miss living in a part of the world that has "seasons!"

For all of the 5 years I lived in Florida, I didn't miss Ohio snow.

If anything, I think more people who are ENTHUSIASTS need to see pictures like this. The better some people on this forum can understand how a park "works", the less stupid posts we'll have here.

It's not like I've only ever lived in So Cal. I will honestly say I miss the east coast snow. So Cal, IMO, the weather, sure it's "perfect", but it really never changes. Obviously to each his own, but I really do like seeing the seasons change, and there being a different scenery out my window to look at. And lets be honest here, who doesn't look forward to snow days? Sure, people will bitch about it, but really, you get a day or two off from work/school. It's not really THAT bad!

You mean this 70-80 degree weather Southern California is having in the dead of Winter isn't a seasonal change enough for you??

Good point......very good point. Working at park for the past 5 1/2 years has given me a new respect for the amusement industry as a whole.

I'll trade you. I'm tired of having to plow my way into parking lots every day. My college is anal, they never cancel classes. They didn't even cancel when we got all that snow last February (3-4 feet).

That being said, however, I have never been to a park when there's snow on the ground, so I'll have to do that someday.

Totally in agreement on the beauty of snow-covered amusement parks. The white, the stillness, even the cold, gives you new perspectives. Once walked through SFGAdv. after a major snowfall... that was a great day.

Also in agreement on missing seasons. I read about NYC's insane weather and I'm jealous.

The Mean Streak gets a lot of bad rep. I like it. Sure it's rough and the pacing way off, especially after the MCBR. But it's a gorgeous looking ride, especially at night. But I ride it more than most coasters at the park. I'd rather ride something common a bunch then wait a ton in lines. There are other rides that are much worse than MS. I don't see CP tearing it down anytime soon either, sure it's on a large plot of land, but it still gets a fair amount of ridership compared to its maintenance costs.

Nice pictures

The gap in the Dragster's launch track - does the metal shrink that much in the cold! Wow! Anyone know?

I'll never get over the Blue Streak "de-classic-ifying" of 1995. I hope to do an article with pics at some point. Look at all that extra wood on the ride now, due to those heavy PTC 'upgrades'. YUCK!

Interesting observation. Metals do shrink in cold and the ground also shifts in the winter...fairly considerably too. I'm guessing you were right and that is the cause. There is always a gap there due to that section being able to transfer trains to and from storage, but it doesn't ever seem to be that large in the summer, as you can see from this picture.

It also works the other way too. If it is a very hot day, and you need to transfer a train on/off, the track can get stuck because of expansion. I spent an hour at the transfer panel while maintenance sprayed the transfer track with a hose to cool it enough to where we could transfer a train off to be worked on. It's crazy how much the metal changes.
