TPR Cruising on the Disney Magic!

Recommended Posts

Awesome start to the TR & can't wait for part-2. We are now only about 40 days to our 2nd RCL cruise and this is getting me excited. Of course i know it no way compares to Disney, but it's my first time on the Oasis.

Day TWO of our Disney Magic Cruise! (Read part one HERE in case you missed it!)

Our first day was absoultely wonderful and day two gets even better! Our second day on the ship was a "sea day" and to be honest, those are my FAVORITE days while cruising! Sea days mean you are, as the term implies, "at sea" and you don't dock anywhere. Why do I like them so much? They are easily the most relaxing days of the trip as you get to explore the ship and take part in any activities at your leisure, and unless there is something you are planning to do, there isn't any real agenda that you have to stick to. Unlike port days where usually you'll have excursions with tour schedules, meeting times, etc, these are days to just "hang out and enjoy the ship!"

Today would also be an amazing "food day" as it started with one of my favorite Disney breakfast traditions, continued with Palo Brunch and then ended with one of my all-time favorite Disney experiences "Animator's Palate!"

So here goes, on to more photos & video! (And be SURE to watch the video for Animator's Palate!)

DYpwIPVXUAEYNGW.jpg

Good morning from the Disney Magic! There is no better Disney way to start your day than with a Mickey Mouse Waffle!!!

DYqTunqWsAAk_ma.jpg

Today we were given a tour of the Oceaneer Club on the Disney Magic!

DYqTunqX4AAWpoX.jpg

These kids spaces are amazing!

DYqTunqW4AElsMp.jpg

The Disney ships really are like theme parks at sea!

IMG_8745.thumb.JPG.b5978298267ffc4036d50dff895fcb4b.JPGIn fact, they are so much like the theme parks that kids use the familiar "MagicBand" system to tap in and out of the Oceaneer Club!

DYqTunyX0AEheec.jpg

And there is something for all ages, boys and girls.

DYqZtqMX0AI35V3.jpg

I absolutely LOVE the “Animator’s Studio” that is part of the Oceaneer Club! I wonder how many future animators will start their career in here?

IMG_8762.thumb.JPG.5bb7f2b9bd9141dc8ba3e9bb99772646.JPGThe attention to detail and theming is exactly what you'd expect from the theme parks.

IMG_8764.thumb.JPG.d9378553590a27b2e3c72c5d55c09026.JPGAnd rooms like this, which are more geared towards science and crafts are HUGE!

IMG_8778.thumb.JPG.aa2300c4529b75d50611c304fc77292d.JPGThere really is no shortage of cool areas and "things to do" in the Oceaneer Club.

IMG_8851.thumb.JPG.abaf7b27ff57d0bbef6c95f3b69e8d9d.JPG"Edge" is the ship's "tween" club for kids that are starting to age out of the Oceaneer Club but still too young to be in the "teen" club. In short, they are a lot of trouble! lol

IMG_8860.thumb.JPG.2dd16fe7c112bc61d2cffa98a080f18e.JPGSpeaking of trouble, Kristen spent a lot of time in Edge during the cruise! She did not get into that much trouble...at least that we are aware!

IMG_7959.thumb.JPG.3d00c3e3e243fb587a588448335efa9f.JPGEdge got a few minor upgrades during the recent dry dock.

IMG_7958.thumb.JPG.ba7f9d8a0d6a79cd870d4ed2f00a4662.JPGNothing too major, but some walls were removed...

IMG_7960.thumb.JPG.36f1c506f079b461ab638ef4e3a002ad.JPGAnd just gave the area a bit more space.

IMG_8156.thumb.JPG.0c8b75abb01ac434b335b08fe298c272.JPGHere is a look at "Vibe" which is the teen club.

IMG_8153.thumb.JPG.c58990b8b3da4cd3151333110089834e.JPGThis is where the cool kids go to be anti-social from everyone else.

IMG_8152.thumb.JPG.0f3c056af762a7c12ea012e1992c51e3.JPGVibe received a pretty extensive make-over during the dry dock. While this is the first time I'm seeing it, it did look pretty cool!

IMG_8847.thumb.JPG.5ea2a6556605f196386ea763d8c8413b.JPGWe did say there was something for "all ages..."

IMG_8836.thumb.JPG.7ec7ae52a711cec7a414f59271764f20.JPGAnd yes even babies! You can drop your baby off here and go explore the ship, and that is completely encouraged!

DYqfgJsWsAI1izX.jpg

We have just sat down to Palo brunch! WARNING!!! Our next few photos will make you hungry!!!

DYqiY-9X0AEyuhl.jpg

We were just given a “buffet tour” as part of Palo Brunch.

DYqiY_AW4AE7po5.jpg

The volume of seriously fantastic food here is ridiculously amazing!

DYqiY_DWAAEf2KC.jpg

DYqiY_DXcAAcyBf.jpg

We may be here a few hours! lol

DYqmLy2WkAI-fyJ.jpg

My first plate at Palo includes Prosciutto, aged Parmesan Cheese, and Chocolate Covered Strawberries. Anyone that knows me would know this is my foodie heaven right here!

DYqoxjhWsAAYSbZ.jpg

Elissa’s first plate includes some Hummus, three kinds of bread, Parmesan Cheese, and it was amazing!!!

DYqqj_8XkAUzi_v.jpg

Even though Palo is a higher end "Ages 18 and over" restaurant, they never forget their roots!

IMG_8929.thumb.JPG.8a15e5fd90d0b0511151d26a543cba91.JPGAlong with the GIANT buffet there is also a menu you can order from.

IMG_8971.thumb.JPG.7206802e8b788e620c69a00bb1d35a6d.JPGI went for a flatbread pizza! (delicious!)

IMG_8986.thumb.JPG.195309e181fd13438fec204928b1777a.JPGAlong with the Chicken Parm. (Also fantastic!)

IMG_8968.thumb.JPG.a42f06d8c63fc640c2378bb0fced47b3.JPGMy "dessert plate" ended up being four kinds of sweet breads...and more parmesan cheese!

DYqz3F9WAAAddYY.jpg

Palo is a beautiful restaurant!

DYqz3F7X0AA-xZ6.jpg

Everything about it feels so upscale and elegant.

DYqz3GBWAAArGJL.jpg

And the food is some of the best I’ve had on a cruise ship!

DYq-vK2X0Ac7mfL.jpg

Tonight in celebration of Tangled: The Musical showing, O’Gill’s Pub has been transformed into The Snugly Duckling!

DYq-vK3XUAEH2S-.jpg

And it looks amazing!

DYq-vKwW4AEwaU8.jpg

Rapunzel fans NEED this in their life!

DYq-vKxXUAEDLjl.jpg

We will get back to this a little bit later...

DYrRqZPX0AU9klJ.jpg

Today we went around the ship and delivered presents to our “fish extender” groups!

DYrRqZPW0AAwhZN.jpg

This is so much fun and I love how complete strangers are doing nice things for each other!

DYrRqZLXcAUi9Xn.jpg

This is a good, simple explanation of the fish extender.

DYruTx8WsAALzaB.jpg

DYruTyJX4AASe4f.jpg

The way guests decorate their stateroom door on a Disney Cruise is another fun sub-culture of the ships.

DYruTyTX4AEZGqO.jpg

DYruTx9X4AIizSC.jpg

Some people go all out and it’s amazing to see!

IMG_9092.thumb.JPG.6a2552921b9ff30750a760f976af7448.JPGGetting us prepared for Tangled: The Musical tonight, in our room we had some amazing Rapunzel themed snacks! YUM!

IMG_9126.thumb.JPG.4df7e8eed597e8466f155a9bdf6f7016.JPGIt's "formal night" tonight so everyone was getting all dressed up!

IMG_9123.thumb.JPG.22198d1f1e00f1d0b623955b9beb472f.JPGIt's always awesome to see the Disney characters in their "formal attire!"

IMG_9106.thumb.JPG.86bf67b57d5514ee4c85c9f594f3087a.JPGDonald was super impressed with Kristen's dress and made her do a little "twirl!"

DYr7Uz9WkAATBEr.jpg

Tonight we are Animator’s Palate on the Disney Magic.

DYr7Uz5XkAAO3zN.jpg

This is one of my favorite Disney dining experiences!

DYr7Uz6XUAEzaQ3.jpg

Wait until you see what happens! It truly is magical!

DYr8W1VWAAASvOA.jpg

Here is the menu for Animator’s Palate!

DYr8W1bWsAA1QdQ.jpg

DYr8W1SXkAAq235.jpg

See anything you’d like for dinner?

IMG_9185.thumb.JPG.7c709dc790ca027f1ec21333f2b75921.JPGThese are the "Black Truffle Pasta Purses" and quite possibly the best thing we'll have on the entire cruise! They seriously MELTED in your mouth!!! (we may or may not have had our server bring us multiple servings of them!)

IMG_9238.thumb.JPG.de1d4429df02b4ceefe3210789b58379.JPGOh yeah, the steak was good, too... But OMG! Those Pasta Purses!

DYsAgpTWkAIjY5J.jpg

As you eat dinner, the screens in Animator’s Palate come to life...

DYsAgpWXcAAkDa-.jpg

They begin as black & white pencil sketches...

IMG_9275.thumb.JPG.2f5bd9184ac24f311be3ece60e919494.JPGAs you continue through your meal, those black & white animation sketches go through “clean up” ...

IMG_9280.thumb.JPG.6c89becd1e2679473cdde982d7911e35.JPG...and begin to get animated and colored!

IMG_9290.thumb.JPG.e65e396af075a84d4231cba3ead0b800.JPG...they slowly transform into a full animation cells!

IMG_9305.thumb.JPG.cd0f52395b355b70ecc208e3a81bfd96.JPGBut it's not just what is on the screens!

IMG_9329.thumb.JPG.48474a98fb1fc791777f4cd22dc88b75.JPGThen the entire restaurant begins to change from Black and White to full color!

IMG_9333.thumb.JPG.d7cd2e208d3bc5d6ff96adf5e80046e0.JPGIt's amazing!

IMG_9357.thumb.JPG.ff0922cc11cf231faa38ae9f07e3c215.JPGAnd the mood & color of the restaurant will change based on what is on the screens...

IMG_9362.thumb.JPG.0039e80fd3ef08a0b770441347ce3927.JPGIt goes RED when something scary or angry is on the screen!

IMG_9376.thumb.JPG.6861f68b7d245c97e834007537297103.JPGEverything get dark and dreary when it is something sad...

IMG_9389.thumb.JPG.b74680b0ad0b5c67b77228d8be329294.JPGAnd the color changes again when the scene gets more uplifting...

IMG_9366.thumb.JPG.f36aed0a7e42e7577830c8244f6eccb5.JPGAction & adventure...

IMG_9400.thumb.JPG.dc6da8a95939f97f34dc9d20585276bc.JPGAnd when things start to get happy again!

IMG_9412.thumb.JPG.00a0f9cdc50e209ac1f5e680ac81536c.JPGIt is just INCREDIBLE to watch the entire place completely transform! It is truly one of the best examples I've ever seen of lighting, projections, and storytelling. All while having an amazing dinner!!!

IMG_9426.thumb.JPG.f2ead8349084fa2a89dc40d8907240ab.JPGAnd of course, it wouldn't be "Animator's Palate" without Mickey Mouse!!!

Click to watch this little video below to get an idea of what it looks like in action. This is seriously something that every Disney fan NEEDS to see!

[fbvideonew]

DYsLH6rWsAASG8g.jpg

Animator’s Palate evolves from Black & White to color right before your eyes in the most magical Disney way possible! It seriously is one of my favorite things at any Disney property!

DYsPg79XkAAr3IV.jpg

This gives you a better idea of how Animator’s Palate transforms! The “show” is completely magical in the best Disney way possible! You HAVE to experience this!!!

Not only does the Animator’s Palate restaurant come to life with color and imagination during your meal, but so does the wait staff!

DYsUCslX4AAl0We.jpg

"Before..."

DYsUCsjW4AA4XuP.jpg

"After!"

IMG_9472.thumb.JPG.a65fb763abbda60daf8e82b3ded29d4a.JPGOh yes...and here was my dessert after dinner!

DYsxsohXUAEwHmJ.jpg

Just saw Tangled: The Musical on the Disney Magic!

DYsxspCWsAADGmw.jpg

Very impressive especially considering the staging they do for only one day during the cruise!

IMG_9503.thumb.JPG.c07e70c26e9211db8f0b2074103298be.JPGI did love how the shop has merchandise displays based on the themes for the day. Today's theme was "Rapunzel."

IMG_9521.thumb.JPG.ddd86945bf67b63da0d478a2f006f579.JPGAs we mentioned before, O'Gills Pub was "Under New Management" by the ruffians in Tangled!

IMG_9522.thumb.JPG.4c4a3c6c2c5ea478c2cbc068ff8158cb.JPGThis is another great example of the "adults" area on the ship! Tonight the pub became a "PG-Rated" Adults Only pub games, sing-along, and skits by the thugs from Tangled.

IMG_8888.thumb.JPG.a1ea22f60b14459aa732ebb3a537e9c1.JPGYes, there was singing, but you probably already know the words!

IMG_9548.thumb.JPG.d8d0daa057bd63cd0523084e0f1a048c.JPGIt was actually a lot of fun and other great example how the Disney ships have something for everyone!

DYtABZ7VQAAxyIg.jpg

Since "Marvel Day At Sea" is happening during this cruise, there are Marvel Studios movies playing throughout the entire sailing!

IMG_9642.thumb.JPG.fd9083bed95637a1a6591785719984ca.JPGYay! Mickey was all decked out in his formal attire tonight!

DYtQ149X0AU1Cnn.jpg

And we'll end the report with Elissa and her rodents! Look how happy she is! lol

Next up will our Port Day at Cozumel and Pirates Night! YAY!!! Oh yes, be sure to POST YOUR COMMENTS!!!

(we took the time to write the report, the least you could do is say something nice about it!)

That looks pretty amazing! The “Animators Palate” looks unreal! And... the food does look amazing!!

I only went on my first cruise last year (Panama Canal, 15 days). I loved the “sea days”! So relaxing!!

Even without any kids, I’m beginning to think I could do a Disney Cruise.

Thanks for sharing!

you were not kidding about the food making me hungry!. . wow, that all looks fantastic.

and thank you so much for the video of the Animator's Palette transformation. I've wondered about that since I saw pics of the place (either in a prior trip report y'all did, or from a Disney event where they talked about the concept). Always thought it sounded super intriguing, and unique, and darn if it doesn't exceed what I thought it was going to look like live.

wow.

can't wait to read more

Is that how Animator's Palate is every night night on the Magic. We got the Crush show on the Dream.

There are basically three different shows depending on the ship. The Crush show you get on the Dream and Fantasy the first time you are in the restaurant. Then on Fantasy or any other 7+ night itineraries you get "Animation Magic" which is this insanely cool show where everyone in the restaurant draws their own character on paper and then it comes to live on screen right in front of you!

And then on the Magic & Wonder you get the show with Sorcerer Mickey that we posted about above.

Personally my favorite is the Animation Magic and the Sorcerer Mickey show. I think the Crush show would be a lot cooler had I not seen Turtle Talk many many times at the park.

I finally smartened up and ate lunch mere minutes before reading this TR since I knew it would be loaded with insanely delicious looking food! And boy was I right!! Animator's Palate looks really cool and that video does a great job of giving those of us who have never experienced it before a taste of the magic. Are you given a seating time for dinner each night or can you show up whenever?

I've always wondered if Disney has ever considered bringing an Animator's Palate style dining location at any of their parks or resorts, it seems like it would be insanely popular anywhere they decided to offer it.

Then again it's pretty cool that's it's an experience that's exclusive to the cruise ships.

Yes, there are two times for the dinner seating. Usually on ships it's around 5pm and 8pm. This show works because they know that everyone in the restaurant, for the most part, is at the same place in their dinner as everyone else so the show runs like clockwork.

I think it would be difficult because you would NEED to have set seating times for it to work since it *IS* a show with a beginning, middle, and end. And the entire show takes about the length of dinner, around 90 minutes. That works more difficultly with the park setting since people like to make their dinner reservations at different times.

You have "dinner shows" like Hoop De Doo that operate on a schedule, but that's almost on a different level since it has live music, singing, dancing, etc.

I personally think Artist's Palate would be a harder sell in a theme park environment where everyone is moving at different speeds. I also sort of like that it's exclusive to the cruise ships.

^You're probably right, in that it requires more "structure" that isn't as accommodating to park guests as it is to guests on the cruise ship. Besides we all know if they could offer it in a park/resort setting and make money off of it there probably would have been on opened 10 years ago .

Yep! And we'd be booking it regularly!

But seriously, the ships do NEED things that are exclusive to them, otherwise they would be a little less attractive if you could get all the same experiences at the parks.

Thanks, our first Disney Cruise was a 3 day introductory on the Dream during spring break, I put a deposit down for a 6 day Barcelona to Rome cruise for 2019 on the MAgic. We loved the Beauty and the Breast on Dream, the other two were ok but we loved Beauty and the Beast. I showed my wife this as she inadvertantly found out I booked that cruise as she had a day off from teaching today and it just so happened we got something from Disney on the cruise. Well one person now knows their Christmas present already. She was very pleased and even more excited to see the differences between the ships so as it's not a repeat and rinse type thing. WE hope to do Alaska in 2021 on Disney.

Beauty & The Beast is FANTASTIC! It is easily the best show I've seen performed on a cruise ship. Tangled was good, too, but IMO Beauty & The Beast set a new bar. I wonder if on the 6 night itinerary you'll get Animation Magic in Animator's Palate or not. Something to look into. I know they said that they only do it on 7 night sailings, but I know the reasoning is they only do it when they know everyone on the ship can see it so it's fair. And on a six night, everyone should get two nights in Animator's so it's possible. Something to maybe look into because it's worth it, IMO!

The Pasta Purses are one of my favorite foods on the ship! And I'm glad you had the chance to do Palo Brunch--that is easily my favorite dining experience on these ships! I typically am heavy handed on the cheeses and the seafood, but the chicken parm is one of my favorites I've ever had!

I have to say we've done a lot of different dining experiences on different cruise ship and I have to say Palo Brunch is easily in my "top 3 favorites" (which pretty much means it's tied for my favorite) of all restaurants I've eaten at on Cruise ships!

I love this, you'd think more places would do something like this, and I don't just mean cruises. It's amazing how many places don't care about everyone getting the same and it just coming down to luck on your placement. On that subject does the menu stay the same until everyone's been to the same restaurant (You've made me really want to try those pasta parcels). I'm also curious how easy is it to get seats and see all the shows? Sorry for the questions but this TR is really making me consider putting a little away for the next 10 years to try a Disney Cruise.

Your cruise trip reports are so much fun to read because the photos are so great (as always) and you do a great job of making it seem like I can reach through the screen and order some of that amazing food! It's really cool to see all of the details they put into every room. If I ever go on a cruise it'd probably be some sort of Disney cruise. The level of service and cleanliness is just out of this world compared to other cruise trip reports I've seen.
