Tokyo Disney Resort Welcomes 700 Millionth Guest

By Matt Jones. Published on August 1, 2017. (Japan Time)

Tokyo Disneyland Resort welcomed its 700 millionth visitor this week by surprising the guest and their family with a special celebration ceremony.

On Monday, July 31, 2017 — 34 years and 108 days after the resort opened — Sae Tanaka and her family were greeted at the gates to Tokyo Disneyland with a bouquet of flowers and whisked away to join Mickey and Minnie at a special ceremony.

On stage, the Tanaka family met with representatives from Tokyo Disney Resort who presented them with:

~ A 700 millionth guest certificate

~ A special invitation ticket for both Tokyo Disneyland & Tokyo DisneySea valid until 2020

~ An invitation to the new Beauty and the Beast attraction (planned open in Spring 2020 with no specific date)

Opening on April 15, 1983, it took Tokyo Disney Resort 8 years and 45 days to reach a total of 100 million guests. With the addition of Tokyo DisneySea in 2001, the pace of visitors increased, with it only taking 3 years and 111 days to get from 600 million to 700 million guests. A huge accomplishment and definite cause for celebration.

Some great merchandise and food being sold this month at the parks...

http://tdrexplorer.com/tokyo-disney-merchandise-august-2017/

What's interesting to me about this stuff, is that a few items have Mickey Mouse cartoon

images on them (check out the drawstring bags), which is also supposedly the theme(s) of the

soon-to-open Mickey's Runaway Railway in WDW's Hollywood Studios, replacing The Great

Movie Ride.

Things that made me go... hmmm.

http://www.tdrexplorer.com just posted some new construction pix of TDS' new Soarin' attraction...

Construction for Soarin’ at Tokyo DisneySea is coming along nicely. The main building (I think anyway) is beginning to take its circular shape. Since they are building it in an area that isn’t used by guests, the impact is minimal to the crowd flow.

Here’s a look at the construction as of summer 2017. We still don’t have a set date for the opening except for “Fiscal 2019”.

(Thanks for the photos, TDRexplorer!)

^ Not to mention how (hopefully) amazingly different the theming is inside, as well as the ride vehicles.

I am so excited for all that, if they actually create these!

New popcorn bucket at Tokyo Disney Sea, from http://www.tdrexplorer.com

Now, at Tokyo DisneySea, you’re able to pick up an awesome Buzz Lightyear Popcorn bucket for ¥2,300 ($21USD). The whole idea of carrying Buzz Lightyear around in his packaging is brilliant.

While I don’t buy these often (I do have a 25th Anniversary Chip ‘n’ Dale one from Nakano Broadway, however), I think I’ll make an exception for this one. Once I pick this up, I’ll report back and let you know how it is!

I want one!

I love how much they love the rodents over there! Also, this all looks based on the Ufufy collection.

I always find it funny how much Chip, Dale and Stitch seems to have won over so many fans to be big sellers on so much merchandise in Asia... poor Goofy. A couple of times I've picked up group set packs of something and the 4 pack is: Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Stitch taking the 4th slot. Not an issue for me since Chip, Dale and Stitch are some of my favorite characters that I always try and get a photo with at the parks but I know some friends who got fed up of the overabundance of Stitch. Same people who don't mind all the Chip and Dale though. I can see their point, I really enjoyed the first movie but there was a lot of sequels and tv shows. I still remember the crowd giving the biggest cheer of the night during Fantasmic when he popped out of the hat and his girlfriend zoomed past on a jet-ski.

Heck, a lot of my younger Korean students don't know where he's from since the movies aren't re-run very often and have no idea who Lilo is. They just know of Stitch the character from the abundance of stationery, indoor shoes (I have a pair for work as well for the kindergarten classes) toys and stuffed animals etc.

^ Believe it or not, Tokyo Disney is really good with dealing with long lines and huge crowds at both parks.

But it's still a bit of an easier visit if you can go on a weekday, rather than the weekend.
