^ So the people voted for a new coaster.

However, they're not getting the nicely themed looper you see in the artwork, but a Gerstlauer family coaster.

The name wil be "Cobra des Amun Ra".

(translation: "Cobra of Amun Ra")

  • stats:

    ride type: Gerstlauer family coaster
    height: 16 m
    length: 360 m
    speed: 50 kph
trains: 12 cars, 2 riders each; total of 24 riders
    area: 32 m x 110 m
    cost: 3 million euro

Construction has only just begun, but the ride should open this year, in the summer.

Not bad! Gerstlauer makes a quality product. Things could have been worse. They could be getting a Larson Super Loop.

I think what Yin is saying is that they ripped off the train design of the snake head that GCI did for Viper and lifted it for the coaster at Belantis. I don't think he was actually suggesting they are going to use GCI Millennium Flyer trains on the new steel coaster! lol

Shows how little I know about coasters on the other side of the world..

Pretty fitting for this park though.

^I must say that I have seen prettier colour schemes, that's for sure! It seems like they really like single-coloured rollercoasters at Belantis, Huracan is all red and Drachenritt also looks like it has the same colour for for track and supports. I guess every time they build a new coaster they look for what paint is on sale...

^As from the story you ride on the back of the Cobra through the desert, the colour sheme makes sense to me. I assume that they wanted to match the colour with future theming so you can barely see anything of the track at all.

There's also a POV onride online now:

New owner for German amusement park Belantis

170218urlaub.jpg.ad264837687beeaa30b72eb523fb249b.jpg

The German amusement park Belantis has a new owner. The attraction in East Germany is taken over by Parques Reunidos, known from Slagharen, Bobbejaanland and Movie Park Germany.

In January there were already talks about a takeover by the Spanish chain Parques Reunidos. The deal is now complete. Belantis director Erwin Linnenbach has announced that he will leave the park.

For the time being, the management of the park consists of four people. One of them is Thorsten Backhaus, the director of Movie Park Germany. He will combine both functions.

Belantis, opened in 2003, attracts around 600,000 visitors a year. There are four roller coasters. Parques Reunidos is the owner of over sixty amusement parks, water parks and animal parks in fourteen different countries. The head office is in Madrid.
