Thanks so much for the photos. This ride greatly fascinated me as a kid in how it looked so fragile with the minimal supports, the lattice track, and the sleek looking trains. I have yet to do a tour of Texas to ride Shock Wave. I can imagine how great it is just by my rides on its sister Mindbender at SFOG this year.

BTW the photo of NTAG's first drop is sweet.

Couldn't agree more with all of you, guys: Mr. Schwarzkopf rules!

My very first looping coaster was a portable A.S. Looping Star, here in Rio. PlayCenter, a well established park in Sao Paulo, BR, had this itinerary unit that visited Rio once a year for several months. For each season, something new was add to their ride list: a Pirate Ship, Enterprise, and finally, in 81/82, a looping coasters.

It was the second A.S. coaster at the park, once they also carried a wild Wildcat (my all time favorite among galaxy type coasters!).

I still can remember rushing all times to catch the TV advertisement.

2 very special cousins of mine took me and my sister to ride it on a rainy day of December. We got all wet, I had pneumonia and I still thank them for getting sick this time.

Since then, A.S. never let me down with any of his creations: Scorpion, Lisebergbanan, Colossus, Looping Star, Revolution, Wildcats are unforgettable rides..

Happy 2012 to everyone!

^ I have to agree. While this coaster is a masterpiece it is looking pretty shabby. Those colors are atrocious. The paint is chipping. Oil and grease everywhere, and that train with the graphics is shameful.

Too bad such a beautiful coaster is in such a bad way.

Two words: White & Blue

ShockWave, and her sister MindBender are the only two of the 'HeartlineLooping' coasters built by Schwarzkopf... however, it's documented that a third of this class was to have been built: In St. Louis. Had the third been built, Jet Scream (A Schwarzkopf transportable LoopingStar) would not have been built. According to Schwarzkopf.Coaster.net (BTW: Phenominal site dedicated to all things He created for us to enjoy... and so much more!) the third of the HeartlineLooping coasters would have been another twin-inversion model, with some minor tweaking to the design to fit the space needed. The order was never signed, and thus only two of this class were created.

Agreed completely: One of the Crown Jewels should not be subject to the state of ugliness that those G-D awful wraps do to it- MindBender's wraps were peeling badly in September, and with such a great color choice, they really should consider giving up on the wraps. Schwarzkopf would -NOT- be pleased that we're using His great works for advertising!

^ Close, but nothing compares to this:

OK: Wow. And I thought I had an Anton Schwarzkopf fetish... I'm apparantly outdone. Even I have yet to make a video dedicating my love of Schwarzkopf coasters to the internet.

BTW: Chad, side project coming up. Need you to shoot a video.

I don't understand the love than Schwarzkopf gets here. I mean, the ride is more than 30 years old. Get with the modern times

Those people who know Mr. Parktrips would appreciate this joke. Shockwave and Mindbender are still top 10 rides for me.

I've never understood why Shockwave fares so badly on Mitch's poll. It's just outside the top 100, which I think is a shame, since it's a much better coaster to me than that. Not a top 10 or anything, but a definite top 40. And I think it's also better than Mindbender, which ranks way higher at 53. Those of you who are Shockwave fans, be sure to vote this year when the steel poll opens!

I know that a lot of old school enthusiasts prefer SFoG overall, which helps Mindbender a lot. But what do people out here think about the two?

Ironically, NTag hurt my enjoyment of Shockwave on my return visit tot he park this year. I was there for the ACE Con, and we'd had hours of ERT on NTag the night before. So, my thighs were still VERY sore the next morning for rides on Shockwave. I was actually dreading the moments of ejector airtime on it, since they caused me quite a bit of pain on my still sore thighs! But it was way more NTag's fault than Shockwave's. The only problem was that the ride was strangely inconsistent. On one ride we'd get ejector airtime. Then on the next time, we'd get a few little pops. And it didn't seem to be related to which train we were on or how full the ride was. Still, even it's mediocre rides were far better than most other coasters' best rides. Is this normal for the coaster?

I really enjoyed Shockwave, but Mindbender is just simply amazing. It really doesn't do for me to compare them though...they are both awesome but so very, very different. Mindbender's use of the terrain (going over the side of that hill) makes it rate in my top 10. Some nostalgia there, but it is so unique in it's layout and setting that I would prefer it regardless.

Thanks guys for the amazing pictures though. Any Anton is good Anton for me

And this.

Shockwave was my first looping coaster - I rode it when I was, like, 7 or 8. We went from Ohio to Texas mainly to ride it, because you have to be 48" tall to ride the looping coasters at Cedar Point. But I had discovered Six Flags through Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, so I looked it up and was stunned to see that you had to be only 42" tall to ride Shockwave. It is a shame to see how rusty that thing is... it looks like it could fall apart. And as for you "Shwartzporn" fanatics, well, you better hope Shockwave is a girl...

I travelled about 4,500 miles to Texas and when I was at SFOT guess what ride was closed all weekend? *sigh*

On the plus side New Texas Giant opened that weekend and was pretty cool.

Thanks for the pictures guys, close as I'll get for a while!
