[RCT3] Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom - The Final Update

Recommended Posts

FIRST 39 UPDATES CAN BE VIEWED ON THIS SITE: http://sfgamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15152

So back in July, I started an RCT3 park on another forum called "Heage Lake". The park opened in 1992 and just recently became "Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom" in 1997. (Current season) I figured with less people visiting that forum (Local) due to being the off-season, that I'd bring the park here. I'm going to continue with storyline updates (Hoping to go to 2020 in park years), but first, a sum-up of the park's history:

---

Back in the early 90's, local businessmen Mike Heage and James Calico had an idea for a new amusement park in the (fictional) town of Whitehall, Connecticut

The two men simply flipped a coin to decide who would get the park named after them, and Mr. Heage won, thus Heage Lake was born

Shot1057.thumb.png.80c11aa0992fcb55334bff79b60408e5.png

On Friday May 1st, 1992, Heage Lake opened to unexpectedly high crowds and instantly became a landmark for theme park fans and roller coaster enthusiasts alike.

The park opened with 4 roller coasters

Shot0682.thumb.png.6eb497a00e91a96657435acddfcd03ab.png

The first is Scream Machine, an Arrow Dynamics looping coaster with 3 inversions, which originally operated at a family theme park in Pennyslvania from 1982-1990.

Shot0744.thumb.png.8795dcb3698cfadbda8df5ecd22e9e76.png

The second is Grand Stand, a 1950's themed B&M Stand-Up roller coaster which is the centerpiece of the park's "Mid-Century Square" section.

Shot0614.thumb.png.d760e50f85f37024549c4623ecfd76cf.png

The park's flagship coaster and main attraction, the Connecticut Twister, a product of RCCA.

Shot0615.thumb.png.d1d685c94008cee996d52c4f82a07eab.png

The fourth and final coaster that opened with the park was Junior Twister, a Vekoma kiddie coaster

Unfortunately, conflict between the two men surrounding the debate of a new property in Illinois sparked James Calico to leave Heage Lake and open his own park, Calico Lake, in 1994.

The 1993 season brought two new water rides to Heage Lake

Shot0673.thumb.png.e1eb0d6a12691d58c49aa7d1b1ff0df5.png

The Lost Rapids, an Intamin River Rafting Ride, located in the park's Pontchartrain Bay section

Shot0777.thumb.png.c51ebce50a0952fb6ee55a667bd0d5ec.png

Also, Klondike River Splashdown, a Hopkins Shoot-The-Chutes ride. With the recent Six Flags buyout in place, the ride has since been renamed "Aquaman Splashdown" and is now part of the park's Gotham Backlot area. It's location was formerly known as Klondike Territory.

Unfortunately, on Halloween evening of 1993, an 83 year old women had a heart attack during the park's Fall Fest event while exploring the "24 Elm Street" attraction. Thankfully she survived the ordeal, but the incident brought a lot of negative attention towards the park, along with a drop in attendance in 1994 which was also caused by the opening of Calico Lake that year.

Shot0886.thumb.png.cb5ccc472f1b6d2722894627f40f434f.png

In 1994, the park added S.S. Bayou, an Intamin Bounty attraction. Recently rethemed to "The Joker Inc.", it is located in the Gotham Backlot section of the park

Shot0967.thumb.png.c2189b1b85820f6be972b1fbe065ac14.png

1995 brought the addition of Hurricane, an SDC Hurricane model roller coaster which was inherited from the former Castro Park (fictional) in Illinois, which closed in 1994. (This was inspired by Hurricane at fraroc's King's Paradise)

Shot1060.thumb.png.ce890ce720301e1fc0f2aab32d425f99.png

Verdugo brought record breaking crowds to the park when it opened it 1996 as the first "Invertigo" model by Vekoma (I'm not trying to deminish the record claimed by Colse35, it's just that I had this planned since July and I don't plan on including other RCT parks in my story).

Shot1078.thumb.png.f62fe712101a89588fb3f0ec1fe93ad8.png

In Mid-1996 the state of Connecticut had had enough of the constant conflict and eventual extortion between Heage and Calico Lakes (Even causing road accidents), and both parks were shut down for good. While Calico Lake was replaced with a Wal-Mart store, Heage Lake was fortunate enough to have been purchased by Premier Parks, AKA Six Flags Inc.

Shot1116.thumb.png.798d0b7a18c4dc653f5c91776bf0bd85.png

And finally, this year, the park has introduced the all new Tower of Doom Intamin Gryo drop ride. Standing at an astounding 223 ft. tall it is the 2nd tallest attraction at the park (Behind Sky Tower)

Here's a 1995 Map to give you guys a better idea of where everything at the park is:

2136010498_1995map2(1).thumb.png.577e19f183b72290429c8936015eaec9.png

Since this map was released, the only ride no longer in the park is Mine Shaft Drop, which was unexpectedly removed over the 1996-1997 offseason under Six Flags. Verdugo is located where "La Empresa" (Now Batwing) was on this map, and The Tower of Doom is located next to The Joker Inc. (S.S. Bayou)

Another thing, here are some of the park's videos:

Connecticut Twister 1993 POV -

Grand Stand 1993 POV -

Junior Twister 1993 POV -

Sky Tower Winter 1994 POV -

Mine Shaft Drop 1996 POV -

---

Well, that's about it. I know blackmailing and extortion is a shady way to close the park, but that's just how it happened, I wanted something different than the usual major storm or finanical issues. I didn't mention this but the park is told in the point of view of Jacob Karse, a local roller coaster enthusiast. I'll continue with the storyline updates hopefully tomorrow. Again, the first 39 updates of the park can be viewed here: http://sfgamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15152 You do NOT have to register for this site to view the updates

Welcome to Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom!

Shot1112.thumb.png.58efbaa2a3141d0169a18608b2322506.png

The entrance plaza has never looked so refreshing

Shot1113.thumb.png.6046d2f690684e7919de70f46c5312b8.png

New SFCK signs have replaced the old Heage Lake ones. Also, as you can see, the park's first ever COASTER CLASH event is set to debut next month! I can't wait!

Shot1114.thumb.png.3382ec44d042acfd416469f26e20d794.png

It's been too long since my last shot of the front pond'

Shot1115.thumb.png.1bcb8747a25fc02ae2097d234bcd959c.png

I think you could guess where I was headed...

Shot1116.thumb.png.5600bdb14f1fba310b75ce1ade66dc7e.png

TTOD's awkwardly small sign is dominated by the ride

Shot1117.thumb.png.5251a357040cd9cedd201600faf03e50.png

I caught a glimpse of the Gotham City Amphitheater from atop the tower.

The Gotham City Arcade is looking rather nice

Shot1123.thumb.png.6618bf412ac94d911e0b3d5ed0f659d3.png

Black and White would've looked better than Yellow and Blue in my opinion

Shot1124.thumb.png.927822720ccc09bf2afd66cff223ee6e.png

The Joker Inc. was really nice looking

Shot1125.thumb.png.2f735225964902e27603dc87f09937b2.png

Same goes for Batwing, I love the Bat symbol attached to the ride

Shot1126.thumb.png.c2c8921b95ae72f9fcfa824fdcdc28fd.png

It wouldn't be Gotham without Batman and the Batmobile

Shot1127.thumb.png.13945b5ff849bdf0aa4153b1f5e27e56.png

Unfortunately, Aquaman Splashdown was down in the morning

Shot1128.thumb.png.695edb06e798f57b29e1ac224a0438c1.png

Crimewave Cafe is a huge step off from On The Trail. No more Caribou meat, rather, roast beef sandwiches, salted turkey legs, and fresh cinnamon bread is now sold here.

Shot1129.thumb.png.2beb9e07088abe7136605198dc848140.png

Verdugo is actually running??!??

Shot1130.thumb.png.ccac94427a843db51782193ea2c7615f.png

I wonder how long the line will be...

Shot1131.thumb.png.d63cec4833cf841d5205cba05851b04f.pngAs I was about to enter Verdugo's queue line, I noticed this...

To be continued...

Opening Day Full of Surprises - Part 2

Shot1120.thumb.png.b3d5465ea8d3e3f9e2a30599fcef110a.png

...Unfortunately.., yes, it's true.... Mine Shaft Drop has been removed over the off season

According to Ken Burstein, the new park president, it was just in too poor shape to continue it's run at the park. Safety is their number 1 priority, and each off-season every ride receives thorough investigations and inspections to make sure they are safe to run. Alas, Mine Shaft Drop did not pass this inspection, and is the first ride at Heage Lake/Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom to bite the dust. On the bright side, though, this years graveyard for Fright Fest will be on Mine Shaft Drop's former plot of land.

Shot1121.thumb.png.7505c8d37968429f48cf1a81fab45b3f.png

Verdugo only had a 30 minute wait... Not bad. Funny story, my cousin Mark (Who has still not had a ride on Verdugo) was NEXT IN LINE (He let my brother Neil ride with me) and the ride broke down. Boy is he pissed

Shot1122.thumb.png.c82d4dafc3de00462859751933782dce.png

Of course Mark got his laugh, though, as Neil's sunglasses that he JUST BOUGHT from Recuerdos were stolen.

Shot1123.thumb.png.dad9fdc161196b869b3f5bf5359855c0.png

I can't tell you how many times I've seen couples getting off in El Scrambler's queue line. Something about Spanish architecture just drives Connecticut teens crazy, I guess. We reported it to Guest Relations and got 3 free drink coupons in compensation... yay.

Shot1124.thumb.png.88dc80f07a6120504a303ccfa0932e9a.png

I'm pumped for Coaster Clash, I hope we can get some more details on what it is exactly, though.

Shot1125.thumb.png.a0c464f5c05d0ad2fa6a5aae267b4a1e.png

Here are the queue line remnants of what was supposed to be an "Apocalyptic Picnic" themed attraction for the never-to-be Fall Fest 1996. Mr. Burstein has promised me though, that Heage Lake granted them permission to recycle the idea for this year's Fright Fest.

Shot1126.thumb.png.56badf619890e44c7a663922ea698683.png

Grand Stand... it's been too long

Shot1127.thumb.png.8237147c6e823ebd12958a64fe887e84.png

Oddly, it's one of the least popular attractions in the park. I guess some people just don't know how to ride a stand-up...

Shot1128.thumb.png.9525d961122c4c1b38a756536a6264c6.png

Cab Derby never seems to be a hit with the crowds either...

Shot1129.thumb.png.e97f7825d881b10c3428f04928015388.png

Always give a nice view of Fairgrounds

Shot1130.thumb.png.c557315cbec627c7f55f717557b588bb.png

Scream Machine was running BAD today, this will probably be the last time I'll have ridden it until maybe Labor Day. I can't believe the line was 90 minutes, this is a lot rougher than Grand Stand. I just don't get the GP

Shot1131.thumb.png.34e2e5b6d7a609aa1fd0cdc79e1a3900.png

Mark had to leave early for work so he wanted to see if Verdugo was up and running... it wasn't. He left creditless, once again.

Shot1132.thumb.png.62bc324eca2755761f358e21a222553c.png

Hurricane is such a photogenic coaster

Shot1133.thumb.png.976b15038502ae2c78746c4a8c8f44d8.png

Pontchartrain Cafe was having a sale on coffee

Shot1134.thumb.png.1ab41bbcdcdaba5bb127efcb0e625d98.png

Connecticut Twister from afar. Loving the new dark blue railings!

Shot1135.thumb.png.5768000d3f6af2798a47a14a3384a3b2.png

Ferris Wheel got a brand new sign for 1997! Looks great if you ask me!

Shot1136.thumb.png.b1a55a4aa49a07716b93a9902e2d4e66.png

Junior Twister time!

Shot1137.thumb.png.dc35893f6f00d4cd806eeda7003b5768.png

No, that is not new paint that you're seeing. That is the same salmon color, but very dried out. Compared to everything else Six Flags has done for this park so far, this is just plain awful. I hope it gets a new paint job in 1998.

Shot1138.thumb.png.f69f90f2e83992e0f4958515e9392075.png

So Verdugo opened back up! But to a 3 hour line...

Shot1139.thumb.png.b1037a1f8648339e5cdad40e47fb1443.png

...Which landed us on the last ride of the night! And boy, was Mark pissed when we called him about it later in the night!

Thanks for reading, I can already tell 1997 is going to be a great season!

Looks like a very strong park. I really liked the old park, but it looks like the Six Flags transition is going smoothly.

Also, what is your deal with standups.

I have really enjoyed watching this park grow over the "years" and hope that it is successful for many more seasons.

BTW, the last picture looks amazing!

Spring Update

Scream Machine's loops compliment the front plaza nicely

Shot1128.thumb.png.ebf67180511e993cbcb507eba477a343.png

I decided to start with Connecticut

Shot1129.thumb.png.ca4284e58695b68cda337a9f77e34fdc.png

From Ferris Wheel, Hurricane looked empty

Hurricane was not busy today

Shot1131.thumb.png.3413fda8ff217e9433fa1cae274d7499.png

Surprisingly intense for a family coaster

Shot1132.thumb.png.53f30b123ae933f2f2e38c5fe0484e54.png

I've always enjoyed the morning views from Sky Wheel

Shot1134.thumb.png.045c5e96ed6404342f2fa11f6813aeda.png

I got stuck on Sky Wheel for 30 minutes! Gave me some good photos, though

The Gotham City Amphitheater

I went to see the "Batman and Robin: Saving Gotham" show, and it was awful. The batmobile didn't move once the whole show, acting was terrible, Robin didn't even have a costume! I feel like someone wrote the script on a piece of toilet paper in the bathroom 20 minutes before the show started

Gotham City Arcade has a lot more options than the one in Connecticut

Harley Quinn's Spinsanity, fun as usual

Not very scary, but it is a heat relief in those warm summer months

Of course

My final destination of the night

With Delirium moved to Gotham Backlot, this corner of the park feels pretty empty

Who doesn't love a late evening spin on Americana Swings?

Even better, being on the last Grand Stand train of the night, which, I was on

Thanks for reading

I believe this is my first time viewing this park, and it has a warm & classic amusement park feel. Plenty of flat rides, shops and eateries that are balanced with SFCK's unique roller coasters. Balancing is something most RCT parks fail to do, and you've pulled it off. Kudos.

If the "Batman and Robin: Saving Gotham" show continues to be that bad, its days are numbered. The same could be said for Verdugo. But maybe Vekoma will sort out its issues?

The placement of Junior Twister and Connecticut Twister reminds me of Gemini and Wilderness run. It gives the little ones a taste of the bigger coasters that are yet to come. I also find Hurricane to be a five-star coaster, a timeless classic. Scream Machine would have to be my second favorite coaster at the park due to its back-to-back arrow loops which are always a win. I was also surprised that you bothered with Grand Stand & Scream Machine seeing as how you've been rather reluctant about them as of late.

Sorry for the delay, I was planning on having this update on December 19th but...

Thank you very much! This means alot, hearing it from the creator of such a successful park!

Coaster Clash

Shot1141.thumb.png.a01a08312e0e0ee7aa9751852da4c8d3.png

Today's the park's 1st annual Coaster Clash event!

Shot1142.thumb.png.943c3c3406e761b61a83075ad59f0266.png

But it's not for everyone! The park is closed to the general public today and tomorrow for this special event

Shot1139.thumb.png.6a8dbfa5038112eb746730189ee0a4aa.png

I somehow managed this shot. The landscaping of this park is beautiful!

Let me explain the Coaster Clash event

Basically, it's a pre-registration only event where guests race to be the first 20 to ride every coaster in the park. (1000 people attended the event) Everyone is given a punchcard, which is marked by an employee at the exit of each coaster after they've ridden it.

The first 20 to ride every coaster in the park wins an ERT session and backstage tour for the rest of the day, and everyone is invited back on May 25th for a private day of thrills.

Shot1143.thumb.png.2d48bcadba251172fa6fa7159354900e.png

The park dropped the rope at 10:00, and everyone was off. Of course I had to start with Grand Stand

Shot1144.thumb.png.9cf09960bd3f9c0cc98b5811bab5482e.png

My strategy was to go clockwise from Grand Stand (Which is hard to do in a park with an F-shaped layout)

Shot1145.thumb.png.12c7beecf3947998623cf579b6d0c30a.png

My plan meant skipping Verdugo for last, which turned out to be an obviously fatal mistake

Shot1146.thumb.png.d325ad2561b2289542ddc5251d2e3f01.png

Please somebody give this coaster a paintjob

Shot1147.thumb.png.532e1a478fd132c6a102d21f936da2ca.png

Connecticut Twister is still my favorite RCCA woodie.

Shot1148.thumb.png.7658eb7b54c9643ddda8147f7d21d68b.png

I failed to mention this before, but with the transition of the park from Heage Lake to Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom, Heage Lake Monster has been rethemed to simply Monster. I love the colors!

Shot1149.thumb.png.65e66747cf831f085fef2f8c7cb25724.png

Hurricane + No Line + Private Event = Steal

Shot1150.thumb.png.9c3443894d72437caa7ef0165ead4232.png

This.. Is where I messed up... I failed to realize before that Verdugo only runs one train, plus it's Verdugo, there's always a delay of some sort.

Shot1151.thumb.png.d23f56e6ec9c28a280a7c16db2b096a2.png

RIGHT before I was going to board the train, an announcement came over the loud speaker

"Attention. Verdugo is currently experiencing a series of technical difficulties. We are unsure how long the wait will be. You may leave the line the way you entered, or if you wish, remain where you are. Thank you."

I knew I was done for right there. The wait ended up only being 20 minutes (Lift hill problems), but...

Shot1158.thumb.png.c3c6e5f2bcff1419ed5660fdb84f4ead.png

... by the time I reached the finish line, 121 had finished before me. And 122nd place wasn't welcome for the rest of the day ...

Shot1159.thumb.png.7620b89775d0d68e1333b02c67cbd531.png

Additionally, I had work the next day, So I had to deny the free ticket I was handed. Oh yeah, every participant of the event was rewarded a SFCK T-Shirt.

Shot1160.thumb.png.59a9651b9d3ecfa885d3e7cab2dd379e.png

Saw this laying in the field next to their parking lot, old pieces from Mine Shaft Drop. R.I.P.

Until next time,

Summer

Shot1162.thumb.png.aed71300598335eb935e6f6da6695148.png

What a beautiful day to be at the park

Shot1163.thumb.png.397dcc85aef2c93042bedea4d3db5980.png

Recently installed is the parks's NEW Quick Pass building! In my opinion, it looks a lot better than the old one! Fits the main plaza much better.

Shot1164.thumb.png.3f0776de2e7c6ea612aa1a4344ed34b8.png

And what better way to celebrate than buying a Quick Pass? (10% off today!)

Shot1165.thumb.png.2ba8525c2f0794a14ac1873ee668e71d.png

Something different today, I started with Ship Dip. Definitely one of the park's most intense flat rides, though the lap bar crushing into my stomach is not a good feeling

Shot1166.thumb.png.d8d4917e5e15068a34482db5ab638a32.png

Sky Wheel shines in the morning sun

Shot1167.thumb.png.3d57c333f927ce1db765dd315394d73f.png

With the hot summer days finally upon us, The Lost Rapids 1 1/2 hour queue was reason alone to have a quick pass

Shot1168.thumb.png.6e318751208c26f785aa7d1aae59a76a.png

Still has the best theming of any rapids ride, in my opinion

Shot1169.thumb.png.cb0e3c63813e9238c29d3f0893cfebbc.png

The Tower of Doom has easily become one of my favorite rides in the park

Shot1170.thumb.png.bb6e1a1078e13257a385e3b98d803958.png

As has the Joker Inc.

Shot1171.thumb.png.c277c086a21fa8f23f6bcb8613dde33e.png

I wish the Quick Pass was valid at Cocina Picante

Shot1172.thumb.png.b2518d3c17dd7de31f26a287907ff534.png

If Grand Stand was the only ride opened I would've wasted my money on the Quick Pass. Very underrated

Shot1173.thumb.png.8e61f2194f93e1d2c691376441bd6fa8.png

I saw the supposed CEO of Six Flags and 2 employees from an undisclosed company evaluating Delirium's old space... hmmmm... New coaster in 1998? Nah

Verdugo was running in the morning but broke down later in the evening

Shot1176.thumb.png.258196daf2e1abaf8f2a39572369f734.png

I actually won the Monopoly game in the arcade!

Shot1177.thumb.png.f3de7fb19ea671ad062b17175362de27.png

No shows at the theater today

Shot1178.thumb.png.30fafdbff017c8ebda739efbdfc39624.png

Aquaman was only running 1 boat, so the line exceeded 2 hours at one point of the day

Shot1179.thumb.png.2e0bffd41f3efe95e33df2bdf615262e.png

Verdugo falls into the night sky

Very ironic that Batwing was the last picture I posted in 2016. You'll find out maybe.. next summer?

Summer

Shot1162.thumb.png.162507f6ab3f05f0f0f631a16d76bc43.png

Happy late fourth of July everyone

Shot1163.thumb.png.d7f32be9fce5fcefd6a3b3f9580b0a07.png

Is there a better way to spot the smallest line in the park than Sky Tower?

Shot1164.thumb.png.28dda4b2f413a0422275459a0299d6ce.png

Mid-Century Square was rather empty, so that was my first stop

Shot1165.thumb.png.7a04823f887ea44fef976691d8506b89.png

Does Cab Derby ever have a line?

This area needs some sprucing up

Shot1168.thumb.png.0c3dda629021c6ce04eafa789c19cebe.png

First long line of the day: Scream Machine

Shot1169.thumb.png.0b677baf17ffbe69b63ecc1873ec2198.png

Zipper is undoubtedly one of the park's most popular attractions

Shot1170.thumb.png.da4d94cd53d294ac7993acd44b825dd6.png

I kid you not, Verdugo ran perfectly all day without a single breakdown!

Shot1171.thumb.png.827cb8e188a191c8464e6da181526b24.png

I picked up a roast beef sandwich from Crimewave Cafe to celebrate my 3 rides on Verdugo. It was a bit too salty, but atleast the meat was juicy. The Caribou meat formerly served here was always on the dry side

Shot1172.thumb.png.b07591f827a3827c5adcf1cf8e48a207.png

Quite a nice view

Joker or Tower of Doom?

Shot1181.thumb.png.bd3bf815e04bddf2775c9e4c5eef279f.png

I chose Tower of Doom for my last ride of the night

Shot1182.thumb.png.59e758860255613870d7213931c5bfdc.png

I do not regret my decision

Connecticut's Got Talent

Once a year, a local television channel hosts "Connecticut's Got Talent", a statewide talent competition and this year, Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom was proud to host the event.

Shot1181.thumb.png.55af20d4f9f6fff3fe8c7939911867ab.png

Advertisements were displayed at the main entrance

Shot1182.thumb.png.8c00b46587fa8f831a7df69918416373.png

THIS was the line to get in the Americana Theater

Shot1183.thumb.png.9cefbbce3ab5c729376242d7b8e88488.png

With the temperatures in the high 80's, this really wasn't a fun line to wait in..

Shot1184.thumb.png.4f7fff6a11ef66fa7cf1742c539e343b.png

This kid was escorted out of the park for line jumping.. I'm sure he learned his lesson

Shot1185.thumb.png.b1df1da85348be4f13eeba7256596c94.png

First up was "Lil' Jim" who was performing some type of tribe dance

Shot1186.thumb.png.e983a54dba13257d1aec081cc81ce549.png

Usually, I'm not a fan of punk rock bands (Me and my cousin Mark actually had one back in high school. Ah the 80's ), but these guys weren't bad at all. Their band "Kids from Hell" was definitely one of the least terrible acts of the day. (That's fake fire by the way)

Shot1187.thumb.png.680c83afd6fb060b74a09b4339dd1eb6.png

The Connecticut Rippers made their return to SFCK

Shot1188.thumb.png.46e11d51bae5523c14495a767e8f61b2.png

This woman was performing a son entitled "Give me some sugar, baby." Felt more like something you'd see at a nightclub than an amusement park, but alright... xD

Shot1189.thumb.png.3e3e47c747a9818f9dcf8da7265ae8bf.png

No idea what the hell was happening here. I'm almost assertive these guys were drunk. The guy in the green and his girlfriend were just spewing out random lyrics in jibberish while Jazz music played in the background. I think his friend was attempting some sort of somersault, it was very awkward.

Shot1190.thumb.png.292cdd4873172b27f7fd04f73bd0bdc9.png

The last act was.. rather strange to say the very least

Shot1191.thumb.png.77565168d92faa1a3d683a236d5b44f5.png

I was a bit hungry after the show so I stopped at Andre's Pizza for lunch. (Been eating there alot this season)

Shot1192.thumb.png.791e08b38a9ea13847abb83b09a25457.png

I had to pass on Grand Stand. With local schools starting back up in less than a month, crowds at the park were horrid.

Shot1193.thumb.png.f67026ec65a1284c2e19885ae369d130.png

Even El Starfish had a 20 minute queue

Shot1194.thumb.png.b61bb77808d77a0ab200118a53d358a9.png

I should've known. No wonder Verdugo ran so flawlessly last time. The train was parked in the station all day

Shot1195.thumb.png.772258424b1461ef07fbff5ceaa42a35.png

I bought a hat at Gotham Gear and went home.

Overall, I enjoyed the Talent Show, I think if there was more entertainment like this I'd visit the theater often. I hope next time I visit the crowds will be a bit lighter than today

Project 1998

---

I noticed something.. intriguing at the park today

Shot1197.thumb.png.a69fa8d31c325299a2bebfb0bff6d3be.png

Connecticut Twister soaring through the trees

Shot1198.thumb.png.97deb242c0eacda5058ac9a2046af760.png

The front of the park could use a new ride

Shot1199.thumb.png.1669ace973e8d33eab456821edd33e05.png

Decided to start with Gotham Backlot today

Shot1200.thumb.png.5f498a2c8eed534c87baa4132cfea308.png

It's peak-season, and with schools starting up soon, I figured I wouldn't find a walk-on for Aquaman any other time on this 85° degree August day, so I hopped on for 2 back-to-back rides.

Shot1201.thumb.png.c5b2fdc3b301a93fe30426531d1cf4d0.png

I got in line for Tower of Doom before the queue became a monstrosity

Shot1202.thumb.png.0aabaf5a2c23cb424e7e777692b8b97f.png

Connecticut Twister from The Lost Rapid's line

Shot1205.thumb.png.f934e4f917d5977df02c33a16d2d43fc.png

Huh.. don't think I've ever seen Junior Twister closed before...

Shot1206.thumb.png.5de8cb272c5e9d555c76f22fc0026cf9.png

Uh, where did the sign go?

Shot1207.thumb.png.8905648fa3e80ce96c1860f74528d370.png

TV time

Shot1208.thumb.png.55be3c06454a162409011060b6aedc47.png

Verdugo's line was enormous

Shot1209.thumb.png.4cc7b40fb92345d9e6b3ed40ac18bfd8.png

Yeah, no thank you...

Shot1210.thumb.png.5a782dae2d1dc4457f3fb3bbe2990bd9.png

Looking forward to Fright Fest this fall!

Shot1211.thumb.png.06ef6b69e313b551066e507a4fa45c06.png

I have a feeling Apocalyptic Picnic is going to be a great attraction

Shot1212.thumb.png.5fe35ab759619a3a1603d07a1eab05be.png

:o :o :o

Shot1213.thumb.png.eaa3ff4fcf2278dd882f67ebd4b95965.png

Something seems a bit fishy

Shot1214.thumb.png.9d8c041eda92fc952954f853caa71ae7.png

No pizza today

Shot1215.thumb.png.3eaba5f11ce4a3dd928c992c662dc401.png

Until next time

Labor Day, Cab Derby's Last Day

Shot1197.thumb.png.15a0ef453f6d49205db55fc82fdfbafe.png

As another season wraps up here at SFCK, it is unfortunate that one of our original 1992 attractions will close forever at the end of today. More on that later in the report

Shot1198.thumb.png.c96eb0ad5239603a79ce75f11c157cd0.png

I started with lunch at Pizza Factory. I use to like it more, but I've grown to Andre's Pizza. Oh wait, it's closed now

Shot1199.thumb.png.c397b030782f3bb57f36e760367f7688.png

No caption needed. They were ejected from the park (Without refund; Six Flags's new policy)

Shot1200.thumb.png.9ccef2c4ae27ec162b52966254089195.png

I have seen the amphitheater used once ever...

Shot1201.thumb.png.d9a99d356ccc458fcc47cb5e98d03459.png

If it's even open, Verdugo will be undergoing a retheme for Fright Fest

Shot1202.thumb.png.4d1760d79fb5a324f1a139055b10fb7d.png

I'm really hyped for Fright Fest

Shot1203.thumb.png.196de107f34c9cba4f35f160c9eadb7b.png

That's strange.. Never see Cab Derby's line THAT long

Shot1204.thumb.png.3b851f6336d969bbda7a4aa465d4cbd4.png

I stopped enjoying my day here. Cab Derby is a nice and relaxing ride, and it's one the only rides thats guaranteed to never have a line. This is very sad

Shot1205.thumb.png.5e43c2dd1a9579e53bf8a4687db7c338.png

Families enjoying their final ride

Shot1206.thumb.png.6c35a73cefa652559cad1983a8661247.png

Shot1207.thumb.png.a0dc92af1ca125bd4e698c07429255d5.png

Shot1208.thumb.png.63c5d0b491971ebb65a69d9066096c0f.png

Decided to take a couple more rides on Scream Machine before the night ended

Shot1209.thumb.png.973aad37ad77a74caefc6a4a9b0b7a6c.png

Line wasn't too bad...

Shot1210.thumb.png.d46759f5b5e0fe725b7c79135d101b32.png

Shot1211.thumb.png.f83ab667016ec9aeb06272311a5f98c0.png

Verdugo always looks so tall from this angle

Shot1212.thumb.png.619a760ecb2cb4e8903ade4d9086f504.png

Grand Stand closed early due to accommodate midway crowds

Shot1213.thumb.png.d6f2102a7b0a791db8b3358a4a36c5e1.png

What could be coming in 1998?

Shot1214.thumb.png.8030d3d597320d3adbbac1518bb5dcf6.png

Ironically, I ran into a guy who operated Cab Derby in it's inaugural season back in 1992. We had a nice chat, before it was time to take our final rides

Shot1215.thumb.png.ac8a5e205786c86085be953a55fac7c6.png

:/

Shot1216.thumb.png.0295ba193375cff1360ace73698f1ae5.png

Goodbye Cab Derby. Thanks for 5 years of fun

Fright Fest Opening Day - Part 1

Shot1197.thumb.png.56975d4fbf0724e8037139579c866050.png

After years of anticipation, Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom is back in the Halloween spirit with their latest fall event, Fright Fest

Shot1198.thumb.png.6209433c83eb8b98a0eb088420f22e1f.png

Apocalyptic Picnic was where I headed first

Shot1199.thumb.png.f3d6344def69e61e3b64e10b973cb167.png

Here's a breakdown on the attraction: A group of 10 or so people meet with a "Ranger" who leads everyone into the forest. He eventually gets bitten by a "Zombie" and turns into one. He and the "Zombies" chase everyone the direction where they came. Anyone who manages to reach the other end of the trail wins a skip the line pass.

Shot1200.thumb.png.06d8da55447f128b21793b2aac30c2cf.png

Here's our ranger, Joe, leading the way

Shot1201.thumb.png.ee4a4684c95bd1c1d32287d5ba06c6b0.png

The dead trees really helped with the atmosphere of the attraction

Shot1202.thumb.png.555e43a572c527bbd3fd3f2afa579ca6.png

Grand Stand looks great during autumn

Shot1203.thumb.png.06e5c5a37b4e1f1618e17825e53c6018.png

At this point Joe was pulled into the trees by a zombie

Shot1204.thumb.png.5e7ee7028d61b47be8c413383d2ed6b3.png

Every women or child was screaming at the top of their lungs

Shot1206.thumb.png.b4c16d87c67b1458b2e7f72909e4b444.png

No skip the line pass for them

Shot1207.thumb.png.9ab0c502c379363c962476c422fd8c16.png

I'll admit I was running a marathon of my own but there's no way I wasn't getting the pass

Shot1208.thumb.png.b37974f1e2fbe5faecdbc64403ceadcf.png

Almost there!

Shot1209.thumb.png.ea97767ff7ffae6c3353e736efc930e3.png

Me and 2 guys finished the walk-through and were rewarded a pass by Joe

Shot1210.thumb.png.f78132321f497204d610bcff7b821853.png

Next on my agenda: The Graveyard

Shot1211.thumb.png.486f653764335620958743f8d8522c6e.png

Heage Lake, 1992-1996

Shot1212.thumb.png.75b1ab98804cc5a2f6cd79b4968df069.png

Some of the gravestones featured clever puns

Shot1213.thumb.png.4696b561a13df6449df57d79d68ec4ae.png

Oh yeah, I kind of forgot about Mountain Climber. Well it technically isn't a "Ride", so...

Shot1214.thumb.png.769868211dfcb063d5d7ea04588f5cef.png

The saddest part of Fright Fest

Shot1215.thumb.png.1a1a59af91f34be605e151ab609f508e.png

WHAT??!??

Shot1216.thumb.png.d547bbb9efccf17eadf8ff64084fc0d6.png

But.. there wasn't even a gravestone for it.

Fright Fest Opening Day - Part 2

Shot1222.thumb.png.782d06d76912f14b9eb34f1e1c9fc7dd.png

I have no idea what's going on. We'll have to wait until spring

Shot1223.thumb.png.e9ed206a5b3bb62e38bd46b2b93d596f.png

Monster was running a special intense cycle for Fright Fest

Shot1224.thumb.png.23c136cd9d086cd7c91b221912579476.png

The Hurricane Candy Trail made it's return this year

Shot1225.thumb.png.b9de2e31120f17706ad7540124d98904.png

My only complaint is that there was less theming. The candy was surprisingly abundant

Shot1226.thumb.png.0c2b03ac08d73ee0e69a0aec7331f889.png

A nice view of the empty Gotham City Amphitheater

Shot1227.thumb.png.bc118e7a40dd035d98aacf4072f815f4.png

Sigh. Hurricane was down for the day. Then again, is there ever a day when everything's open at this park?

Shot1228.thumb.png.3e380e15c5fcd9c1684058ea674eaf8f.png

New this year is Corpse Cavern. Similar to 24 Elm Street (Attraction that gave woman heart attack in 1993), Corpse Cavern is a fully enclosed attraction. It was supposed to be themed to an abandoned morgue (Reminds me, park officials said Americana Morgue was supposed to return this year but cancelled due to "Construction in the area" ) but really, it was just pitch black walls with a strange odor and eerie music and sound effects.

The exit

Shot1230.thumb.png.b1bf4abd6078b148834e8cfb0e32c875.png

I completely forgot upon entering, but I was able to get some great shots of Junior Twister being.. removed?

Inside

Shot1233.thumb.png.cd3a52e91dd01655be4b615e7b6dcab9.png

The park's "scareactors" began to emerge at sundown

Shot1234.thumb.png.5c6eb06475516b744fbc6c2dcdfd9826.png

Woah baby

Shot1235.thumb.png.6396baffccd02e1710fc6ba061f60f2c.png

Will Grand Stand have competition in Mid-Century Square next year?

Shot1236.thumb.png.e58353201c4a1cfdffc076197c9b415b.png

Or will it just be something small?

Shot1237.thumb.png.f3fc9e033b4ac8e0b07252da94bf0824.png

Ah, who cares. Grand Stand > Whatever's coming in.

Shot1238.thumb.png.e68934761e5874b1a6699ee3a1e580ce.png

Nothing like a spin on Gyration to close off the night

Shot1239.thumb.png.877268fd431c5a3c50f8c56ec99086ca.png

But of course, you always have to finish off Fright Fest nights with a ride on Fog.. er. .Scream Machine

Shot1240.thumb.png.25f4be2eb3b7e14e508fe311f239e55d.png

Really needs new trains

Shot1241.thumb.png.6d264857de2cfcf9efabc06ef465b676.png

The fog, however, is marvelous!

I'll be back once more for Fright Fest closing day, then it's 1998!

Closing Day (Fright Fest still)

Shot1225.thumb.png.3e03fa94a9bcabd5e238421f42df4d4b.png

Another season has come to an end here at Connecticut Kingdom

Shot1226.thumb.png.cb75f7ddcadceac1b321dd79e000d8e4.png

Fright Fest has been quite an enjoyable event. I hope it returns next year!

Shot1227.thumb.png.aa3bd9f8bfaec1977b0bc1354f308e64.png

The scariest part of Fright Fest: Verdugo was open!

Shot1228.thumb.png.f7c181ed0e4e40d731237a86aaf704f1.png

I forgot how fun Torbellino is

Shot1229.thumb.png.ccf2d27855b9cba28feb858b50890607.png

Apocalyptic Picnic was just as fun as last time

Shot1230.thumb.png.17fc8dd9cba59fafea608ab4545b6dd5.png

El Starfish had a 5 minute queue, so why not?

Shot1231.thumb.png.e761b6d8aaf3d77e08374d47618f8503.png

Grand Stand was down in the morning but eventually opened back up later in the day

Shot1232.thumb.png.94cd59e20c9229d0c145f1128f3b4f86.png

I love this shot

Shot1233.thumb.png.985767916e16b13199adc306129fea78.png

What's to come in 1998?

Shot1234.thumb.png.861dc9da49193c1c6e5fe015da26c77b.png

Corpse Cavern or Connecticut Twister?

As was the candy trail

Shot1237.thumb.png.ec3561334c9756fb5355ce201580271f.png

I went to ride El Scrambler when I noticed that Grand Stand was up and running

Shot1238.thumb.png.dd559a85fb842537da0bf23586e2eee3.png

My last stand of the season (Terrible pun intended)

Shot1239.thumb.png.62c4888c47f20a410edb03e5016d5312.png

My last swing of the season (Ok I should stop)

Shot1240.thumb.png.e118d34d238dffa5fe31cb8d4b1ac580.png

Haven't played in a while

Shot1241.thumb.png.01832404b4008eaf8d0706f1a74c0ac6.png

It would've been nice to have seen Dodgems get a bit of Fright Fest theming

Shot1242.thumb.png.025a97f2ac2e24b0930174b71a0a69dd.png

One last journey through the fog

A zen ride on Hurricane was the perfect way to end the season!

So yeah. That's 1997 for yah. I can't wait to find out what the park has up their sleeves for 1998.

Opening Day - Camp Cartoon Network and Connecticut Cruisers open

Shot1241.thumb.png.a5f92b8055652d773da198829dcf8cba.png

Welcome back! It's now 1998 at Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom, and I'm happy to tell you that TWO new additions will make their debut today at the park!

Shot1242.thumb.png.c4e28f17489c9ba463fe645c9ee08606.png

But before we get to the new additions, I'd like to point out a few subtle changes. First, Tajito Village has been renamed to "Crack Axle Canyon", similar to other Six Flags parks.

Shot1243.thumb.png.00735b8412c34922d4acbc1df301a35a.png

Now onto the big changes

Shot1244.thumb.png.e3818d163b7824d2b45e4cbeb58c6404.png

Andre's Diner is the new eatery at the park this year. Combining both the diner (1992-1992) and Andre's Pizza (1992-1997), this eatery serves everything from pizza to root beer floats!

Shot1245.thumb.png.53a0e18f35f7838759ae17ce8dcdbf0a.png

Also, The Blues: Snacks and Drinks, has been renamed to "Cartoon Cafe." Why, you may ask? Well....

Shot1246.thumb.png.c0fe356267409aeaf25de4e5152f2dd7.png

NEW in 1998, is Camp Cartoon Network! 2 BRAND NEW children's rides along with 3 returning classics from the park's former Nifty Fifties Playground are included in this new area!

Shot1247.thumb.png.9e1e5c3fa2949b2a94a0715f85b9dae7.png

The first new ride, is the Flintstones Rocky Road Rescue Service!

Shot1248.thumb.png.e52b1543fbd5f2373d53254ffa9bd849.png

Grand Wheel has returned as "Bedrock Boulder Roller"

Shot1249.thumb.png.1d222b594c75321d9cc716fff88f0644.png

Cartoon Carousel is the reincarnation of Carousel

Shot1250.thumb.png.e24f646ba830b7e93aa5a272ceaeee7e.png

Musical Cups is back as "Yogi's Yahoo Cups"

Shot1251.thumb.png.5c940b3ff77da7dbb37fdccf1a0748e6.png

Lastly, NEW is the Jetson's Jet Orbiters!

Shot1252.thumb.png.115c7158ce05f017a568b74f06ec5b4e.png

This unique children's attraction takes riders in mini "Spaceships" in which they try to bump each other's.

Shot1253.thumb.png.92ff2e8be7029bb17eb7cc439c99008d.png

Possibly the biggest addition to Camp Cartoon is Spacely's Sprocket Rockets (Junior Twister with a new paint job)

Shot1254.thumb.png.ccbf5ba5f3bffe79cb0f8fb1bac3db29.png

Though technically not in Camp Cartoon, this fun coaster sits right across the midway and takes riders on an exciting one minute journey into outer space.

Shot1255.thumb.png.04f9937135578263b57e3ac9e7fc8a7c.png

Another nice change is the addition of flower pots and the new County Fair Snacks facility in Fairgrounds. The area's entry sign has been replaced as well

Shot1256.thumb.png.13d7570b1c16c3dcf6325b8ae25eba32.png

The new bathrooms in Fairgrounds look great!

Shot1257.thumb.png.d7c9787eb751025a34edfa174ef28a2b.png

The 2nd new addition is Connecticut Cruisers!

Shot1258.thumb.png.95b9256e617f4ca21ca4ab8ed67aea7a.png

Sitting on the former site of Junior Twister, now Spacely's Sprocket Rockets, this Arrow Dynamics car ride takes riders on a trip through the forests of connecticut. Fun Fact: It uses the cars from Cab Derby!

Shot1259.thumb.png.1d9e54f8ce3d5bc9a7ded4fb19622e1b.png

Some props were scattered throughout the rides's course as well.

Shot1260.thumb.png.62d0c03b89bd797b91715363d7585c2e.png

One last shot of Connecticut Cruisers at night. You can see the nice shed in which the cars are stored parallel to the track, the queue is on the other side.

I enjoyed opening day, I hope to be back soon!

Thanks alot guys! I was beginning to worry that people weren't interested in the park I may not get feedback often, but that makes it more special when I do. I'm glad you're enjoying the park so far!

The park is dead (Weekdays in May rock!), yet they still manage to take 20 minutes to give me my slice of pizza and medium Sprite. Ridiculous!

Memorial Day Celebration

Shot1261.thumb.png.a699ed757002b6fe0e7a5a4970c4c4c5.png

With schools having the day off, and military getting free admission, I knew today would be on the crowded side

Shot1262.thumb.png.5e0e869f562fc39235a596fab73992b3.png

So I picked up a Quick Pass!

Shot1263.thumb.png.28c0a597a2f8078247739eca3d2e39c3.png

Connecticut Twister's line extending out of the main queue house justifies my theory

Shot1264.thumb.png.1c53c43ecda4f601b088aed3297e92a3.png

I did feel a little guilty passing the 3 hour line, but hey, I threw down the extra money for it

Shot1265.thumb.png.76356fb72ddc796a03ba9e5b86bb5356.png

The whole park was decorated in American Flags to celebrate Memorial Day

Shot1266.thumb.png.59bd31db4fc63ec1988e2d467ca106a7.png

A nice shot I got from Hurricane's station

Shot1267.thumb.png.02b9a06bb82abe7986c1205f669d5b8c.png

A little hard to read, but there will be a Fireworks Show tonight near Hurricane! Sweet!

Shot1268.thumb.png.1b6e8a5c391ecc0038c7981ece10e3d5.png

Very surprisingly (considering the weather was in the high 70's), Aquaman was the only ride without a queue

Shot1269.thumb.png.42f73d711f011b0ae3f948535182fdb1.png

Verdugo was hauling a$$ today. Must've been that thunderstorm yesterday. Here's a POV:

Shot1270.thumb.png.226818ca0a265df12cc256278a1a7ee6.png

A ride on Haunted Ranch is a great way to sit back and escape the heat

Shot1271.thumb.png.58784ddc51386a7a75c2dc97a2bde98c.png

I got to ride twice in a row with Quick Pass!

Shot1272.thumb.png.e515e3aef296bd4ac31b25fe273884cd.png

It seems that Zipper is the park's most popular flat ride

Shot1273.thumb.png.20f5b23ccfc6710489bb52b5643325c6.png

45 minutes waiting for Scream Machine? Nah. Quick Pass to the rescue!

Shot1274.thumb.png.29269f25bc05cd775fb70382ee0e58c2.png

I was about to have another go on Verdugo when it broke down. Why am I not surprised?

Shot1275.thumb.png.237f9dbec83c4b1cd2a025a96ce5c6c5.png

Connecticut Twister from Main Gates

Evening shot of Swingset.

Shot1277.thumb.png.bd418f147474b834b65aa0a94b2bd7ba.png

The Arcade doesn't seem to be making as much money as it formerly did

Shot1278.thumb.png.bf3fd3198e1c7dc918c25da04e65cabc.png

One last ride on Hurricane before the fireworks start

Shot1279.thumb.png.b4b2798f9f018fb2bd29280590d0820a.png

Not bad...

Shot1280.thumb.png.35c9b78c937e288f3420c88d8542db82.png

...Better!

June

Shot1266.thumb.png.8e9db68fe7be8adeeaa6f0c835fb67ef.png

Local schools aren't out yet this year, so we have a few extra days of walk-ons

Shot1267.thumb.png.7ce8190cdbb12198e7b98664b539e9f3.png

The park's skyline has barely changed since the grand opening in 1992

Shot1268.thumb.png.5102de7d7eb66817c883427aea3caa49.png

I made my way to Fairgrounds first

Shot1269.thumb.png.97ee0bfe164781b10e5d4c3f76671b7e.png

I was the only person on Dodgems

Shot1270.thumb.png.9d7260238bd9f665d5b1c20f75ef7868.png

A few people lost their lunch to Scream Machine

Shot1271.thumb.png.fbb9a27a2c770076d74ecb0fd50151a1.png

Gyration is a very underrated ride

Shot1272.thumb.png.295f7ae1ea3d1ee2dcf91321314c65ae.png

Some sort of dance competition was being held at the Americana Theatre. The park's entertainment offerings have improved over the last couple of years (Excluding that awful Batman and Robin show last year)

Shot1273.thumb.png.f915140f33a0db5e061e26d0daa70a20.png

No line for Spacely's Sprocket Rockets, so, why not?

Shot1274.thumb.png.153acc96b746b34e9adf517bf53f39fb.png

That's funny, I don't remember this character from The Jetson's...

Shot1275.thumb.png.6245aaa4d4ebe2de73b6f541916f4767.png

Grand Stand's line was the longest all day at 10 minutes, but it was mainly due to 1 train operations

Shot1276.thumb.png.9681b1e6548f06f9737d00ed4e6e945a.png

I had a value meal from Cocina Picante for lunch/dinner. Dunch? Linner? Meh

Shot1277.thumb.png.bf48198fc4cdc5fca2364462aadf37ba.png

Harley Quinn is always an enjoyable ride. Fun Fact: SFCK is the only park in the chain with a ride themed to her

Shot1278.thumb.png.3d7d09d295c2936e3f7e0340e69707a4.png

I wonder if the park could squeeze in a compact flat next to the bathrooms. The only thing I can think of is one of those launched drop towers, but The Tower of Doom is 10 feet away so I can't see it happening.

Shot1279.thumb.png.e907dd0eadc1e12216ef5c8653b0a09f.png

It's kind of funny how long Hurricane's line was in 1995 and 1996 compared to nowadays.

Shot1280.thumb.png.f860d6491d62cf9a78126a9104c57a67.png

I almost dropped my camera to get this shot

Shot1281.thumb.png.205126f151209ae2a31adc62dd34bbeb.png

The Lost Rapids fades into the sunset

Shot1282.thumb.png.f3ba26eb931643a4001570fbaaa4fb13.png

This guy was having fun

Shot1283.thumb.png.688e369d8f23735f65f79896c4f32c15.png

Sky Wheel gives great views anytime of the day

One more ride on The Monster

Shot1285.thumb.png.d1cd7d0fcad1cbbf49171feb0151be78.png

And Connecticut Twister to finish off the evening

New coaster in 1999?

Does Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom have something up their sleeves for 1999? According to a recent Whitehall, Connecticut board meeting, it seems that the park may be looking to add a new coaster next year.

A friend who attended a local public hearing meeting last night showed me what was at the top of last night's agenda:

july1998publichearingsfck.png.c757a517581a25053db713ac77da2445.png

This is shocking, but welcoming news. If all goes through, this will be the tallest coaster in the park, and in the entire state of Connecticut, I believe.

I'll keep you posted

July

Shot1289.thumb.png.128a452af214e691d9df5c447922e3c7.png

Went to the park today, I figured crowds would be more controllable due to a local fishing contest attracting most of the town

Shot1290.thumb.png.5a908f21f353edbe4964a401a0e6f378.png

You know what I was looking for..

Shot1291.thumb.png.d7a561cbd3b9e67cd4adce8b57115f0d.png

This may look very different next year

Shot1292.thumb.png.cb4dfb0aa6c078ae66f84a93bbb7728a.png

Here's the plot for the proposed new roller coaster. I heard all went well at the meeting earlier in the month, but it needs one more approval next month to go through.

A view of the site from Crackaxle Canyon

Shot1294.thumb.png.fb78789756d0cc6870949b5f254d452c.png

Fun Fact: Torbellino was the first ride installed at the park

Shot1295.thumb.png.62a332bd2f25247ea2c214dd2ef0751f.png

Had lunch at Andre's per the usual

Shot1296.thumb.png.0648d88ba7c2d1d01dc3fd7d461517f4.png

This corner of the park looks quite nice

Being in somewhat of a central location, Scream Machine's lift hill gives great views of all around the park

Ferris Wheel dominates the park's skyline

Don't exactly know why, but I love marathoning Connecticut Twister in the evening

Airtime!

Supposedly, Hurricane was originally going to cease operations after the 1998 season, but the park spared it and chose the space behind Aquaman for the new coaster. This doesn't surprise me considering the decrease in it's popularity with new rides like The Tower of Doom and Verdugo stealing it's thunder.

The Lost Rapids got me soaked today

I find it hilarious how Joker had a non-existent line while TTOD's was 30 minutes

More floater air for me!

Verdugo maxed out a 45 minute wait

Haunted Ranch. Subtle, yet thrilling

I've always enjoyed the surrounding area of El Scrambler. If you look closely, Grand Stand's train is going through the corkscrew/flat spin

I had to leave a little early because of work tomorrow.

I'll keep you guys posted on the new coaster.

August

Shot1294.thumb.png.c847e713f53bfc575b168b0ab8262a3c.png

Today was a beautiful day to visit the park

I like to make Sky Tower my first ride of the day on sunny August mornings like today

Update on the 1999 coaster: Good news, it was officially approved on Monday! (August 3rd) I've heard that construction will begin sometime within the next week!

Saw a concert at the Gotham City Amphitheater. I really like how The Tower of Doom only seems slightly taller than the top row of seats.

Aquaman's station is only about 1/2 the height of the amphitheater

Swingset's central location allows for great shots like this one

Had lunch at the EXpress Cafe

Due to the Read to Succeed promotion expiring yesterday, the park was DEAD, so I was able to marathon Connecticut Twister and Hurricane multiple times in a row without leaving my seat

I wonder if it'd still be possible to get pictures like this one if Hurricane was removed

Dive Slide is starting to fall apart.. one of the boards on the stairs was really loose, and the supports need some paint. Kind of makes me wonder whey the chose to revamp Nifty Fifties Playground over Orleans Park.

Shot1305.thumb.png.06dcb6f4c27fb3fcecf0c9be81a0d287.png

Scream Machine had the longest wait in the park at 25 minutes

Might've had something to do with the fact that only 1 train was running

County Fair Snacks currently has a promotion: 2 Giant pretzels and a lemonade for only $3.50. Steal!

Loving the new covered pathway to MCS

Despite being a kiddie attraction, I kind of like The Jetsons's Jet Orbiters

Sometimes I feel like Grand Stand is the perfect candidate for the ride-rotation program. As a fan of the ride, I hate to admit it, but I can't see it still standing (No pun intended) 20 years from now. I think Six Flags could squeeze a Batman: The Ride clone in that spot if they tried

Shot1311.thumb.png.798ae188440d049aaa2413a566b9ce94.png

If you look closely you can see Verdugo's train completing the vertical loop

Fun Fact: El Starfish was the last ride installed before SFCK, then called Heage Lake, opened to the public on May 1st, 1992

Goodnight Connecticut!
