YoshiCraft2011
The Rocky Mountain Elk is such an amazing coaster. It has some nice twists and airtime moments, along with a loop. But this ride is seven years old! We need something new in order to thrill a new generation of families. A bird is ready to flap its wings... IronWolfman
Maybe a suspended coaster like Big Bad Wolf or XLR8?
Atter
Well, if it's going to be built local, then I guess it will be an Arrow Dynamics coaster! The bird makes me think it will be an Arrow Suspened Coaster!
YoshiCraft2011
Coasters Magazine Volume Four, Issue Eleven November 1983  And Now, Three New Rides for a Family Park Written by Mike Spencer  Hi there! My name is Mike Spencer, and I'm the manager for a small park called Topaz Park. Topaz Park is not very well known, but we have some great stuff. Our park has been operating for over twenty years and thousands of visitors passed through our gates.  The reason why I'm writing this article on a well-known magazine like Coasters is because I believe that Topaz Park's new rides for 1984 should get nationwide attention. I can assure you that these new rides will be fun for both thrillseekers and families. Now, let's get on with the announcements.  Our first new ride is Bumper Boats on the Bay. Topaz Park is located right next to an artificial lake called Lake Topaz. These bumper boats are powered by man, so it's completely safe for the environment. With the bumper boats, our guests will be able to enjoy a nice, relaxing time on Lake Topaz. Guests are required to rent a life jacket, though, due to safety reasons. Our bumper boats should be great.  Concept art for the Bumper Boats dock.  But that isn't all. Our next new ride is the Lake Topaz Twister, a scrambler ride built by the Eli Bridge Company. We were able to acquire this ride for an affordable price. This is a classic ride. Riders take a seat and then spin all around in a circular motion. This ride is pretty hard to explain, but you get the idea. It's a ride that will definitely make you dizzy, but it's excellent.  Concept art for the Lake Topaz Twister.  Finally, we are ready to reveal...  The Gull  Concept art for The Gull's lift hill and station.  The Gull will be a new roller coaster built by the Arrow HUSS company here in Utah. If you thought that this was just one plain old roller coaster, think again. This bird puts on quite a show! It goes through two loops back to back, a twist, an airtime hill, and two back to back corkscrews to tie it all up together. The Gull will be one of the most extreme roller coasters in the state of Utah, behind the Colossus roller coaster at Lagoon.  Concept art for The Gull's double loops.  I hope to see some smiling faces during the 1984 season, and these new rides will guaranteed that. Our wood and path borders will be supplied by the Salt Lake Nursery and the station building for The Gull will be built by our maintenance crew. Make sure you take a visit to Topaz Park, Utah's family park, in 1984!  Concept art for The Gull's double corkscrew. JonnyRCT3
One-two-three combo! Nice selection of rides, I especially like the Bumper Boats.
YoshiCraft2011
June 1984 Jack Stevens, Student  You might remember me from a trip report my mom wrote. That was six years ago! I was only ten back then and I remember the experience to be sub-par. My mom wouldn't let me play the midway games and a bunch of rides were closed.  The Salt Lake Nursery stopped handing out free park tickets for some reason, which is why I haven't made a visit to the park for such a long time. However, I still had those coupons for a park ticket. There was no expiration date. Before I knew it, I was in my brand new car with lots of cash and my camera.  The ticket area looks worn and dated. However, the information center still looks good as new! The Rotor was closed, which was a disappointment. The sign said that they were closed "due to common malfunctions". At least the Topaz Whip was open. It's a tame but fun ride. I like it. Skydive provided nice views, but the only thrill factor is height. I loved The Rocky Mountain Elk back then as I do now. It's so twisty. This was new. It was the Forest Market, which was some kind of mall or something. I remember this coaster being closed the last time I went here. This is a fun ride, and I like the tunnel at the end. Here's the boardwalk. Wow, six years really make a difference. This was Sink!, which was basically Skydive on steroids. For lunch, I had a tasty burger and honey slush. Much better than what you get at McDonald's. After relaxing for a while, I rode on Ocean. I like this ride. You basically go upside down a billion times. My map showed an announcement for the Lake Topaz Twister, which is basically one of those scrambler rides. It also showed The Gull. I thought it was cool. There were two loops and two corkscrews. This ride was great. It really focused on the inversions, but I liked it nevertheless. There's also shoulder restraints, which made me feel safer.  I actually enjoyed Topaz Park this time! Six years really does make a difference. The rides were great. 'Nuff said. If I could, I would definitely come back to this amusement park in the near future.
YoshiCraft2011
July 1984 Mike Spencer, Park Manager  Hello! This is Mike Spencer again, manager of Topaz Park. Recently, for whatever reason, I decided to visit the park early in the morning. Usually, I just visit my office at Spencer Properties headquarters on the other side of the I-80, but I wanted to see what the park looked like.  Guests have been complaining that the ticket area is old and outdated. I have to agree. Twisted Beehive might not be our most popular ride, but man, does it look nice. Skydive looks beautiful in the morning. Our Rotor has its floor jammed in the lower position. Charles Moore, our maintenance manager, said that the parts are no good. From the Boardwalk, it appears that Sink! is taller than Skydive, even though both are about the same height. This would be an excellent photo opportunity if the park was ever open this early! Some employees, like this maintenance guy, go to work very early. Finally, I leave you with The Gull's double loops. YoshiCraft2011
November 1984 Carl Anderson, Public Relations of Topaz Park  Yes! Mike hired me to be Topaz Park's new PR person! Yay! I am uber excited to be working at Topaz Park. I have been friends with the Spencer family for a number of years. Mike told me one day that he would do something special. Working at Topaz Park was truly something special. I originally was working at the information center until Mike himself told me to work at Spencer Properties headquarters. Here I am now! Next year, we aren't going to introduce a new ride. Instead, we will be refreshing some areas of the park.  This is our awesome new entrance area! It will definitely look much better than that old, brick entrance. This new entrance includes a dedicated handicap lane and bag check areas. The information center will also receive a fresh coat of paint. The lake that is currently in front of Skydive is now expanding! This lake will now be a reflection lake. Our guests will now be facing this iconic ride immediately after entering the park. Finally, some of the paths have been replaced with a sidewalk stye path. This makes our paths look nicer and it, therefore, increases appeal.  In other news, we will be closing down our souvenir shop. After the Forest Market opened up, profits from our official souvenir shop dwindled. We will also be introducing Topaz Park's Food at Home, a selection of coffee mixes, pastries, and heat-and-eat hamburgers. These foods will be the same recipes that are used in Topaz Park and will be able in local stores around the Salt Lake City area.
YoshiCraft2011
November 1985 Carl Anderson, Public Relations for Topaz Park  It's been another successful year for Topaz Park! Thanks to our partnerships and advertising, we now have more visitors. Attendance increased 5% this year compared to 1984. I think it is safe to say that Topaz Park is truly Utah's family park.  We have some pretty exciting news for the 1986 season. Topaz Park is ready to reveal a new ride for the "forest" section of our park. Built by HUSS of Germany (the same company that built Ocean), we are ready to reveal...  Concept art for Troika Troika  Troika means "set of three" in Russian, and this ride stays true to its name. Troika will have three sections of pods, with each section having several of them. The pods are colored red, yellow, and blue, and are designed like cars.  Concept art for one set of pods.  Troika will be a fabulous ride for both kids and adults. Similar to Lake Topaz Twister, Troika twists riders all around. What makes this ride different, however, is the fact that the sets of pods will actually raise above the floor, which makes the ride more dizzying.  Concept art for Douglas Go-Karts.  Also new for 1986 is the Douglas Go-Karts. Using the same track from our Bee Karts ride, we've replaced the karts and added road signs to add to the fun.
IrishCasual
I just spent the past half an hour reading this, and I'm really impressed! Troika looks lovely, the park looks beautiful, and a good selection of rides. Keep it up man!
YoshiCraft2011
I just spent the past half an hour reading this, and I'm really impressed! Troika looks lovely, the park looks beautiful, and a good selection of rides. Keep it up man! Thanks for the great feedback! I can assure that there will be more great things to come at Topaz Park. For example, the following trip report: ----- July 1986 Finley Paterson, Resident  I love Topaz Park. The coasters there are great and the food is awesome. Last year, I found out that they sell season passes, which are convenient for me because I no longer need to buy paper tickets. It was a nice day in Salt Lake City, so I took the one hour drive to the middle of nowhere, just so that I can have fun by myself. Last year, the park built a new entrance. I like this a lot more than the old, brick one. The design of Skydive looks quite strange, but it is very iconic. The queue for Twisted Beehive is now covered by this glass dome. The line was surprisingly long! This coaster is usually not very popular. New for this year was Troika. It was a fun ride, but I found it to be too similar to the Lake Topaz Twister. The Rotor was operating when I took this photo, but it then broke down. The Rocky Mountain Elk is now just The Elk. It's a much more simplified name if you ask me. Sink! is the icon for the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk seems a bit neglected today. I wonder why... No trip to Topaz Park is complete without a honey slush! It's just yummy. The line for The Gull wasn't as long as the other coasters. Maybe people find it to be too intense. It would be great if the park adds some kind of transportation system, because the walk from the Forest to the Boardwalk is a bit long. I really enjoyed myself during this visit! Sure, it's no Disneyland, but the price is fair and there's lots of things to do. Plus, I really like their honey slushes and coffee drinks. I am glad that Topaz Park is pretty close to me. ALT2870
As always, a very nice update. I definitely appreciate that you use a fair amount of default scenery and rides. Maybe I should take a trip there.
YoshiCraft2011
Hey! It's Kevin here again. I apologize for the lack of updates over the past couple of weeks, but this is due to school and laziness. I ca guarantee, however, that the next update is going to be huge. To make up for this, here are some "lost photos". Feel free to guess when these photos were taken, and I will personally give you a long essay stating what's new for Topaz Park. No cheating! YoshiCraft2011
November 1986 Carl Anderson, Peoples Relations for Topaz Park  1986 was a great year for Topaz Park. Twisted Beehive had an unexpected surge in popularity, and there was a small 1% increase in attendance. Despite being located in the middle of nowhere, Topaz Park seems to be quite successful!  1987 will be the most significant year for Topaz Park. This expansion is bigger than any other expansion at our park before. Our new expansion will double the amount of rides in the Forest section of our park and add a brand new restaurant. Here at Topaz Park, we are ready to reveal...  4est 4 Kidz  4est 4 Kidz (pronounced Forest for Kids) is an expansion of the Forest area of the park that is aimed specifically at children. Although Topaz Park is family orientated, we realized that there wasn't much for little kids to do. 4est 4 Kidz will certainly change that. Concept art for Wacky Worm. When guests first enter 4est 4 Kidz from where the ferris wheel once was, guests will immediately be greeted by Wacky Worm, Topaz Park's first kiddie coaster. This coaster will be built by Pinfari. Concept art for Little Ace. Concept art for Samba Balloon. The next two rides are Little Ace and Samba Balloon. These are prototype models from Zamperla, and Topaz Park will act like a testing ground. Little Ace twists kids around in a circle. Additionally, the planes raise up and down. Samba Balloon, also twists kids around in a circle, but it's more relaxing. Concept art for Super Swings. Finally, we have something for the big kids. This is Super Swings, a swinging carousel ride. It's a fast moving ride that twists riders all along. Concept art for Cool Kids Cafe. Finally, we will announce the Cool Kids Cafe. For breakfast, kids can enjoy a classic PB&J or a variety of cereals and mini pancakes. For lunch, kids can enjoy grilled cheese, personal pizzas, or a creamy mac and cheese dish. Plus, thanks to our partnership with Provo's Hive, we will be serving a smaller portion of our famous honey slush, as well as peanut butter and honey sandwiches and honey pastries. YoshiCraft2011
First of all, I apologize for the lack of updates during the month of November. However, Topaz Park is now back for now. It is now 1987, and 4est 4 Kidz just opened up. Here's how this new area is like from one person's perspective! ----- June 1987 Julia Stewart, General Public While driving down the I-80 on my way to Vegas, I saw a few signs advertising Topaz Park. It seemed like a nice place to visit, so I left the freeway and entered the small town of Topaz, Utah. I had my brand new camera with me, so it was a perfect opportunity to test it out! Once I entered the park, I noticed this tower thingy. There's no way I would ride that thing! It looked quite dangerous, and the tower could fall at any moment. This Rotor thing was closed. Why? Is it because someone died on that thing? I started to have some bad feelings. This was the brown roller coaster, and it was horrible. There's only a lap bar, with no seatbelts. Plus, there's a loop! What if someone just flew off! This was a worm coaster. Lame. I'm not sure what this building was, and I didn't want to know. Why are there so many kiddie rides at this park? There needs to be more for adults to do! I didn't ride this swing thing. The chain could just snap off and kill someone! This was my first time going to any rides park, and it will be my last. The rides looked horribly dangerous! I had to leave the park early because I was so disgusted. Oh, and did I mention the $20 admission! What a ripoff! Topaz Park, you should be ashamed of yourself. YoshiCraft2011
First off, thank you guys so much for reading Topaz Park. It was a pleasure reading all of your comments, and I had fun in the process. Â However, I'm afraid to say that Topaz Park is on indefinite hold. This project has lost my appeal after all these months, and you guys seem to be bored as well. There were so many plans I had, but things were falling apart pretty quickly. Craig and Mike, The Elk, Twisted Beehive, The Gull, I won't forget them. However, it's time for me to move on and find new games and activities. Thank you so much for your support after all these months.
