Currently Unused/Diassmebled Coasters and Rides

Recommended Posts

This was mentioned in another thread, and I was curious what was going on (and didn't want to take the thread off topic), so I'll ask here:

Does anyone know what the status is of Tidal Wave/Greazed Lightning from PGA? I understand it's still sitting in the SFMW parking lot, but did Six Flags buy it, or are they still holding it for the Schwarzkopf Family to take back to Germany (that was the last rumor I heard about it), or what?

Along the same lines, does anyone know what happened to the Shockwave trains from SFGAm? I've heard at least one went to SFMM, but does anyone know about the others?

I figure someone on here has to have some "insider" knowledge.

2 of the Shockwave Trains were sitting next to Scream at SFMM. There's a good chance the 3rd was sitting around somewhere also, out of view from the GP.

As for Poor Tidal Wave...who knows...all I know is it's rotting in that parking lot and I've seen ACEers steal parts.

Six Flags sold off the Old Indiana property. I would imagine those have all been scrapped by now, but does anyone know for sure?

It's a pity to see them all like that...I'd love to see someone build Old Skool World, with all the Arrow Shuttle Loops, and Corkscrews and the INTAMIN Bobsled, and a couple of mine trains, and any other old coaster you can name. Some of those are great rides...

Well, I can help out with a couple of the rides. The looping star at bobbejaanland is still on the parking lot, having been replaced with an awesome gerstlauer x95. The son of schwarzkopf was going to buy it, renovate it and then sell it again. However he has not been able to find appropriate funds for the operation. You can still see the parts when you ride the "air race", the most tame suspended swinging coaster ever.

I called ETS... the company that owns the land... they said that two coasters are still on site. This was a little while ago. The lady knew that they had come from Opryland.. and she said Chaos and a bobsled.

Greased Lightning is in SFMW's parking lot, rotting to it's death. There are so many parts missing that it is impossible to reassemble it.

A rela shame, though I can see why Marine World, which already has a Boomerang and V2, wouldn't want to add a shuttle loop. Or, comes to that, an old Schwartzkopf, considering the problems they had with Zonga.

Oh well, at least PGA has a new swimming pool. And the Grizzly. Sigh.

I don't think Marine World could install it anyway due to the height of the main tower

According to rcdb, the Tidal Wave/GL was 137 feet tall. That's 13 feet under the SFMW height limit, and shorter than both V2 and Medusa. And yeah, I understand that SF doesn't own the thing, so does anyone know just why it ended up in their parking lot?

Here's what Duane said on RCDB...

After the 2002 season Paramount's Great America announced they had sold Greased Lightnin' to Wieland Schwarzkopf and that it would be transported back to Germany. As the Greased Lightnin' was trucked away from PGA, it didn't head to port, but north to Six Flags Marine World where it was unloaded in the parking lot. Many people claimed this was a staging area prior to heading back to Germany. This proved not to be true as the Greased Lightnin' is still at Six Flags Marine World (for all of those who didn't believe me when I said it wasn't going back to Germany - In you face!, but I digress).

It is pretty clear that Six Flags Corporation (not necessarily the Marine World park) has purchased the Greased Lightnin'. The unusual move is thought to be because Six Flags purchased the Greased Lightnin' from Wieland Schwarzkopf and there was no point in sending it back to Germany. Rather than send the trucks to port, they were sent to Six Flags Marine World where the ride will be stored until it finds its new home.

Where will this new home be? There are many rumors about this, so lets look at it more logically. First lets eliminate all of the Six Flags owned parks that wouldn't make sense:

American Adventures - This is more of a kiddie park than a thrill park. Also based on the size and layout of the park it would be hard to believe such a ride could even fit.

Frontier City - Has a Arrow built shuttle loop called Diamond Back.

Six Flags America - Had an Arrow built shuttle loop called Python that has been in storage at the park since 1999.

Six Flags AstroWorld - Currently has a Schwarzkopf shuttle Loop.

Six Flags Elitch Gardens - Currently has a Arrow built shuttle loop called the Sidewinder.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas - Six Flags already operates a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop in Texas at Six Flags AstroWorld.

Six Flags Great Adventure - Had twin Arrow built shuttle loops called the Lightning Loops removed after the 1992 season.

Six Flags Great America - Had a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop called Tidal Wave that was removed after the 1991 season.

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom - Has a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop called Greezed Lightnin'.

Six Flags Magic Mountain - Already has the world's largest shuttle roller coaster called Superman The Escape.

Six Flags Marine World - Too close to Paramount's Great America and already has a launched shuttle roller coaster called V2: Vertical Velocity.

Six Flags New England - Had an Arrow built shuttle loop called the Black Widow that was removed after the 1999 season.

Six Flags Over Georgia - Had a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop called Viper that was removed after the 2001 season.

Six Flags Over Texas - Six Flags already operates a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop in Texas at Six Flags AstroWorld.

Six Flags Worlds of Adventure - Already has a launched shuttle coaster called Superman Ultimate Escape.

So here are the remaining possibilities:

Great Escape

La Ronde

Six Flags Darien Lake

Six Flags Mexico

Six Flags New Orleans

Six Flags St. Louis

Wild Waves and Enchanted Village

Wyandot Lake

Place your bets...

I just went through all of my pictures and no matter what angle the picture was from the Tidal wave tower is taller than the towers on Invertigo so I think the stats on RCDB may be wrong.

As far as it being rebuilt Duane that where will it go statement has been on RCDB for a while however having been a former ride op of that ride and seing what it's present condition is and how much of it is missing and knowing it's high operation and maitenience costs let alone lack of replacement parts I can say with 99% confidence that it is spare parts and scrap as sad as I am to say that
