What is the Process for Being First Public Rider?

Recommended Posts

I am going to try to be the first ever public rider on Hangtime. Or maybe just on the first ever train. I am wondering if anyone can answer the follow questions for me.

What is the process for being the first public rider on a new roller coaster. Do people start lining up the night before? Is it a free for all as soon as the gates open for whoever can sprint to the coaster the fastest? Are the first people in line escorted to the coaster so the line order stays the same?

Any tips, or personal experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks -Chance

Well yeah generally opening day is running of the bulls over to the new ride. But getting on the first public train of a new coaster is gonna get you so many cool points and bragging rights for decades to come so you gotta come up with a plan for this.

Nothing says "die hard enthusiast" like camping outside of an amusement park. Do that. Set up and tent and everything. You could even do this a few days before, I'm sure the park won't care. If they give you any trouble just be like "hang ten, man" and do that surfer hand thing with your thumb and your pinky stretched out.

Anyways, once opening day rolls around, you'll be right in the front. A decent sprint should get you over there in time. Knocking over grandmas and mowing down a few strollers would probably help the effort. If anyone tries to stop you just be like "hang ten, man" and do that surfer hand thing with your thumb and your pinky stretched out.

If you're really determined, maybe go the day before, go in and ride that log ride and just slip off halfway through and find some nook to sleep in there? That way you're already in the park the next morning? I'm sure no one will notice and even if security somehow finds you just be like "hang ten, man" and do that surfer hand thing with your thumb and your pinky stretched out, and I'm sure they'll applaud your determination and escort you right over to the ride.

If all else fails, maybe some sort of hostage situation involving demand letters and a balaclava?

I dunno, good luck. You gotta take a chance, Chance.

This thread should be fun if it lasts at all.

Boldikus explained this much better than I ever could have

Agreed. I literally LOLed while reading his explanation.

I have this strange feeling it won't. . .

Yeah, I'll be sure to hide in the Log Ride. Maybe I can even pretend I am one of the animitronics. But why stop there, maybe I should bring a bag of marbles to drop behind me so everyone trying to get to the ride slips... I really think you are on to something here. Please lets proceed with the genius brainstorming.

Maybe rig some sort of zipline from the mythical K on top of the sky tower down to the ride station and camp out up there overnight? Then when the ride is about to open just do one of these

and everyone will just be like "where does he get those wonderful toys!?!" and be so impressed you'll be able to just marathon that puppy all day.

So you watched Batman on AMC last night, too, eh?

Chaining yourself to the train will virtually guarantee you'll be the first to reach the 100-ride milestone. Of course, you won't be able to get a chain and padlock past the metal detectors. But since there's nothing above them, you should be able to just hop over.

You're missing a key element to this: the training and determination.

As soon as this thing was announced, you should have begun your training. Run on the treadmill at full speed for exactly 16 hours every day. If you feel the pangs of hunger, look at pictures of Hangtime instead. Food doesn't taste as good as it feels to be the first rider.

You must never lose focus. Learn the Hangtime mantra: "hang ten, man." Chant it to yourself at all hours of the night and never lose focus. Only then can you become a Hangtime master and deserve the role of "first public rider."

Now get off TPR and go train! First rides must be earned, not given!

Also, when Mystic Timbers opened, KI employees lined everyone up who was going to the ride and led them over so that there wouldn't be a running mob. Maybe ask someone who has been to a previous opening at Knott's, or search the forums?

Another thing, go alone!

I was at Shanghai Disneyland's grand opening. While I wasn't the first guest to queue outside of the gate, I was the 4th official guest to enter the park ever. I was nowhere near the front of the line when I was camping outside at 5 am as lots of Japanese guests have been camping out since 10pm the day before. But when they were entering the check point and getting their tickets processed, I was able to bypass all of them since it took me 10 seconds to get everything done. Might not work in every case but I tend to find that if you want maximum efficiency, going alone is always the best choice.

If you want to be the first EVER rider, you have to be famous or rich. Parks usually have charity auctions where you can bid to be one of the first riders.

Otherwise, if you are going to be with the GP, be sure to be hit by lightning so you can turn into the Flash and run really fast on opening day.

There are only 2 ways I can think of:

1-win the lottery and buy your own rides or.....

2-join TPR or some other coaster/park fan group.Over the years I've gotten notices/offers etc. to be part of the filming of various commercials and tv shows(like that "Coaster Wars" or whatever it was on Travel Channel) from TPR and some other groups.
