SDC 2016 Trip Report(s)!

Postby DoinItForTheFame » Sun May 15, 2016 12:44 pm

Hey All,

Well, since we visit SDC a lot. . . and I mean a LOT!! Okay, well maybe not that much. But usually we are at the park every other weekend (weather permitting.) So instead of doing 5 billion different threads for different trip reports, I figured I'd just start one thread, and add to it each time I had a new trip report to the park! So... Check back often for updates!! With all of that being said, on with the first trip report!!

First Visit Of The Season

Well this was our first visit of the season, and it was a slightly busy day at the park. It was in the mid 60's and slightly windy all day, which made for some rather cold rides, but nothing to miserable! As always, we started the day out with a back row ride on Wildfire! I always seem to forget just how much airtime there is on that first drop in the back row! Holy mother of peal, it was amazing! The ride was smooth as glass, and full of forces! We did notice later in the day that one of the trains has much more, very noticeable"rattle" than the other. However, I forgot to check and see which train it was, so I'll have to update that later. After Wildfire we headed over to Powder Keg! Powder Keg was running great! The launch always takes me by surprise. For such a small coaster, that launch sure packs a punch. Also, the team was pumping those trains out so fast it was insane! There were several times the team would have the train checked and ready to go, and still be waiting for the transfer track to slide back down before they could dispatch. I was VERY impressed with the efficiency of the crew! After Powder Puff we headed over to Outlaw Run. As soon as we were about to board the coaster the ride broke down. Instead of waiting around for it to be fixed we headed over to check out Firefall! This was our first visit to the park since the addition of Fireman's Landing, and boy were we surprised. The entire area is so well themed, and so well put together that it really brought some life back to that area of the park! Also, Firefall sure packs a punch for such a small tower. They first two "drops" are crazy extreme! After Firefall we headed to Thunderation, and then did lunch! After lunch we headed over to Outlaw Run, which was running as great, and screechy as always! Did Giant Barn Swing, Fire-In-The-Hole, and then went back over to Wildfire! After Wildfire, it was back to Powder Keg, then Giant Barn Swing, Outlaw Run, Firefall, and repeated this 5 or 6 times.

The park was looking great this year! I know it is early in the season, but all the crews were doing great! Everyone we interacted with was super nice and friendly! You could really tell that everyone there truly loves their job. Also, when did Fire-In-The-Hole get a LIVE Dalmatian?! We first noticed him after our second ride when we were coming back into the station on the right side of the coaster in a little area! We were really shocked to see a live dog as part of the theming for a coaster! Anyone know any more about this Dalmatian!?

All in all it was a great visit to the park! Can't wait to be back!! Anywho, on with the photos!!

First ride of the day!!

The height difference between the station and this part right here is crazy!
2.jpg
Smooth as glass!! (Well, at least in one of the trains!)

Going down!
4.jpg
Wildfire doing its thing.
5.jpg
Such a massive cobra roll.
6.jpg
For those of you who are into this kind of thing...
7.jpg
Theming at it's finest.
8.jpg
More theming.
9.jpg
Wildfire's old extended que line.
10.jpg
Next up: Powder Puff!!
11.jpg
Fire!!
12.jpg
This coaster really is a blast.
13.jpg
That lady in the purple though.
14.jpg
Such a unique thing on a coaster.
13-1.jpg
Anyone know what is in this box??
15.jpg
Bye Felicia.
16.jpg
Going down.
16-1.jpg
These riders agree that Powder Keg really is a blast.
17.jpg
So. Much. Theming.
18.jpg
A much better use for Buzzsaw Falls.
19.jpg
All I want is a roll back on Powder Keg. Is that to much to ask for?
20.jpg
S&S is that you?
21.jpg
This is actually what powers Powder Keg. Not compressed air like everyone thinks.
22.jpg
Bye for now!
23.jpg
Next up: Giant Barn Swing!
24.jpg
Its a giant barn. . . With a giant swing.
25.jpg
Outlaw Run!
26.jpg
The station is so awesome.
27.jpg
The front of the trains could use a little de-bugging.
28.jpg
No one has ever taken this photo before. . .
29.jpg
Going down.
30.jpg
A few seconds later!
31.jpg
Not today...
32.jpg
This is the tunnel where babies are made.
33.jpg
Going down (outside of the tunnel this time)
34.jpg
Best way to clean up after the tunnel.
35.jpg
Speaking of water rides
36.jpg
Away they go to their very wet doom!
37.jpg
Bless your little heart.
38.jpg
Such a well placed ride!
40.jpg
Waterfalls are always a plus!
40-1.jpg
Lost River Of The Ozarks, lost it's sign. . .
41.jpg
Such a beautiful area!
42.jpg
It looks much better without all of that crappy Geyser Gulch "theming" in the water!
43.jpg
Such a powerful tower!
44.jpg
No trip to SDC is complete without a ride on Fire-In-The-Hole!
45.jpg
Still better than Six Flags.
46.jpg
Yes, you can buy furniture at Silver Dollar City. How you get it out of the park, and home I will never know.
47.jpg
This is the real reason people come to SDC!
48.jpg
Such a beautiful park!
49.jpg
This is how you theme a water fountain!
50.jpg
This is how you hide a giant indoor roller coaster in the middle of the park!
51.jpg
I wanted to try these, but they closed early. :( Maybe next time!
52.jpg
Instead, this was dinner. . . and it was REALLY good!!
53.jpg
Maybe next time.
54.jpg
So very well themed.
55.jpg
Giant Barn Swing kind of swinging.
56.jpg
No caption needed!
57.jpg
All the babies are done being made for today.
58.jpg
One last ride on Wildfire for this trip!
59.jpg
One of the most beautiful views from a coaster... EVER!
60.jpg
That sky though! <3
61.jpg
Goodbye for now SDC! I'll be back soon!!

I believe the metal box on Powder Keg's train is a pneumatic control for the restraints. It communicates with the computer and unlocks or locks them when needed. They work similar to hydraulic ones, they just use air instead of oil.

Nice trip report. Theming like that makes me wish that Darien Lake was still under Herschend's umbrella.
I'm actually not a kid; it's my nickname. I'm the youngest guy at my job. Only until after I created my account did I realize it made my sound like I'm 12. "Giddy up"- Cosmo Kramer Finally got an avatar!

Great trip report! Fire in the Hole has had a Dalmatian for a few years now. The kids always love petting the dog while it's in the queue.

Oh, and bad move skipping the cinnamon bread. Never skip the cinnamon bread. :b

Really nice pictures of Silver Dollar City. Amazing scenery surrounding the park.

Great photos. I always like it when people point out the details in these reports.

They've actually had a dalmatian around FITH for years now, though it's not there every day. They've gone through a few of them actually. I think an employee simply owns it and brings it with them each day.

Great report. I love seeing the beauty that is Silver Dollar City. I hope to return to this park sometime soon.

I prefer to mate with donkeys over humans!

The current Dalmatian is named Jazz. It's human is Far Cheef Jess. She is only at the park on the weekends.
