BDG
There have been different proposals for a theme park in Calais for over a decade now. And for a long time, a project called "Spyland" was in the running. It would have been a park similar to Epcot, blending rides with education, themed to espionage. It was however feared to be not family-friendly enough. The city now unveiled plans for something completely different: "Heroic Land". The current phase of the project has the backing of the city of Calais, the French government, NGE (public infrastructure) and GDF-Suez (utility). logo An overview of the park... rcjp
Sounds really cool! But then all these projects do . . . However, given then number of visitors it has maybe it would work. Oh, and I like how the wing coaster artwork looks like furius baco.
Nrthwnd
All the artwork and attractions look wonderful! Here's hoping it happens.
ytterbiumanalyst
Impressive concept art. I like the theme of the floundering ferry especially. May give leisure travelers on Eurostar the a reason to stop. But considering the majority of Eurostar passengers are traveling for business, I don't think we can count on all 30 million being a factor, but it looks like a decent idea nonetheless. cfc
It looks promising, but will it come to pass?
gerstlaueringvar
Yes! Finally an Intamin Wing Rider is coming! Really hope this project is turning real because everything looks very promising!
larrygator
The location can generate enough visitors to sustain a park. Do tourists actually stop in this area after the ferry or is it just a town that they pass through.
KarlaKoaster
They often do stop for duty free drink etc, plus a few do go on day trips to Calais itself. I'm not sure if people would spend the night there or not though. The Eurostar currently doesn't stop there, and I'm not sure if they would add an additional stop as I guess the more stops they add, the less high speed it becomes as a rail line. It looks like a nice park
HEROICLANDCALAIS
This Park will be the best of France. I'm very impatient ! However the population of Calais do not believe too much in this project, I in any case I believe in it.

CoasterMateo
Seems like the Intamin wing rider coaster was ditched and they just went for the Accelerator/Rocket Launch coaster. Any info on how tall will be? This park looks like it will be great!
RyanTPM
^It'll certainly be interesting finding out how tall it will be, looks like it'll be a great park with a wide selection of rides and great theming!
BDG
I count 4 coasters... Stellar Propulsion, a launch coaster. Clearly an Intamin, and it looks like an original design, 80m tall. Tokyo's Night, a dueling coaster. This one looks like a Preston & Barbieri, and a clone of Mirabilandia's Master Thai. A weird choice, as a nearly identical ride exists "down the road" at Dennlys Parc. Master Thai, Mirabilandia | photo: NewsParcs Journey to the Center of the Earth is a kiddie coaster. This looks like an L&T Junior Coaster 30x14, which also exists at Mirabilandia. Gold Mine Train, Cowboyland | photo: George Greenway The Land of Elves consists of two indoor Spinning Coasters. The layout looks like a Fabbri Spinning Madness (40m). rcjp
Even if it only has 4 Coasters, it looks really amazing! It does. But then they all do at this stage. I guess I'll have to wait until it gets built to make a judgment.

1aflack
You guys seriously think this park looks good.....apart from the launch coaster there is nothing interesting there at all! Not sure how this is really going to compete with Plopsaland, Parc Asterix, the new London Paramount Park which are all pretty close. They are obviously trying to get UK visitors by placing it in Calais but it already looks a lot worse that what is located in the south of England. Brits that go across the channel for there summer holidays will be much more likely to visit DLP of Plopsland.
RollerManic
The Intamin Wing Rider is certainly on the website still... Go look for yourselves.

BDG
The dream of a new theme park in Calais is still very much alive, with the city now looking at a partnership with Fantawild, who wants to expand outside of China. Earlier this week, the city's mayor Natacha Bouchart got a tour of Ningbo's Oriental Heritage by Fantawild vice-president Daisy Shang. The mayor was impressed the most by the park's 360° theater as well as the massive darkride (the one with the HUGE boats). Another representative of the city will visit more Fantawild parks this month. « Si c’est pour copier ce qui se fait déjà ailleurs, ça ne sert à rien. Là, on aurait quelque chose de très différent, avec un univers chinois, un joli décor, une belle ambiance. On amènerait la culture chinoise à travers un parc qui n’existe pas ailleurs en Europe » translation: "A copy of what exists at other parks (in Europe) would not be a good idea. However, Fantawild can bring us something very different, with Chinese themes and atmospheres that don't exist anywhere else in Europe." source: NordLittoral (French newspaper)
