Forst Files-Nicole's park adventures

Recommended Posts

So I've decided to overcome my fear of posting on here by what else making a bunch of photo trip reports. For the past couple years, I really didn't go to that many parks. Summer 2009 I ended up at Sea World and Disneyland before and after Comic-Con but I really wasn't seeking out coasters.

Fast-forward to 2010, and I seem to be in the year of Amusement parks for me and me quite possibly hitting my 100th roller coaster.

In 2010 I went to:

Knoebels (April 25th)

Canada's Wonderland Part 1 (May 29th Part 2)

Six Flags Great Adventure (July 17th)

Lakemont- August 13-14

Delgrossos August 13-14

Hershey Park

Bonus Bournemouth Pier

In 2011 I went to:

Knoebels July 2011

Coney Island Part 1 Part 2

Quassy & Lake Compounce Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Six Flags New England- Bizarro Bash Part 1 Part 2

Palace Playland Part 1 Part 2

Funtown/Splashtown

Canobie Lake

La Ronde

The Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom

Magic Forest

Knoebels-September 2011

Knoebels- PPP

Dutch Wonderland

Great Adventure

Knoebels

In 2012:

First up is Knoebels, April 25th 2010

As an alumni of Bloomsburg University, it has now become tradition for me to head up to Knoebels on the Sunday of opening weekend. (As a member of the concert band, we played the band shell every year, they still do.)

I arrive at Knoebels just around opening, and since I've got stockpiles of never expiring tickets, I head straight for The Phoenix and get my first coaster ride of the season in.

After my first coaster ride, it's usually food (Cesari's), and time to head over to the band shell to see if I can find any old college friends, and professors.

This year the weather was kind of drab so I didn't take that many pictures.

My usual shot of The Phoenix. I probably have the same shot from every year I've gone there.

Nice to see the price didn't jump from 2009 to 2010.

Kozmo's Kurves. Didn't ride it in 2010. Once was enough in 2009.

Twister, the I'm going to scramble your brains a few times ride. I used to enjoy this when I first was in college back in 2001/2002 now a days, I just want to skip it as it makes me feel awful for hours afterward.

100_9214.JPG.75528a351e61e9d28180108a4a92ae4f.JPG

The Carousel, a fantastic way to rest the tummy after Twister. And apparently I was cool and got the "brass" ring thing and got my tickets back and had that ride for free.

100_9229.JPG.bcb987f7ef1be3deca1b1ef8646af53f.JPG

Of course I have to end the day on The Phoenix. And ignore the fact that this is not the best picture of me.

Up next Canada's Wonderland (won't be for a little while, have to go re-size and organize my pics.)

Canada's Wonderland May 29th, 2010

Over Memorial Day weekend, I went to go visit my friend Jo up in Toronto. After some stressful work moments, where I didn't think I was going to get to go to Toronto, I made it up there. (Only time I got lost was when Yahoo didn't print out all the steps for the directions to her place.)

Friday night, since I got there so late, she had food ordered and delivered. We ate and I crashed.

Saturday, we were up early, and made our way to the park getting there just about Park opening time.

In all we rode 10 coasters that day. Jo likes to ride all types of rides, but I'm more of the coaster person (spinning rides and I don't get along too well. Learned that one the hard way at Knoebels back in 2005 and again in 2007.)

I'll break Wonderland into two posts, 20 pictures each.

On my way to Canada.

Time Warp, very nervous about riding this as it was my first flying type coaster.

The main reason we are at the park. Behemoth.

After riding this awesome ride. You can't really tell how I'm grinning like a fool here.

07.JPG.d04cc7a1dd3abd9125314128a0b4fd30.JPG

Behemoth just getting ready to drop down the first hill. I'll admit it. I kind of freaked out on the lift hill. Wasn't so fond of having nothing along the sides of the lift hill. But after the first drop I forgot about freaking out, and thought this ride was amazing.

I tried and tried, but yet couldn't time the shot to get the car coming out. I thought it was nice, but a bit rough in spots.

I'm still not really sure what I thought while on the ride, there was sun glare, so my eyes were closed and I was hoping that my brain wasn't going to end up as scrambled eggs.

Flight Deck. Ride of evil. That was one of our longest waits. I think the lift hill and the first drop were the best parts for me. Everything else just scrambled my brains some more picking up where Minebuster left off.

Peppermint Patty was our handstamp for the day.

Another sign. I like to take pictures of all the signs of rides I went on.

I won't tell you how many pictures I took to get that shot while in line for SkyRider.

SkyRider, didn't really get that many good shots of this.

21.JPG.d5b96a8a2eacb2d2b008d69ec7ed761f.JPG

Another shot of SkyRider. I liked this ride. I don't think I was "oh this ride is completely awesome" but I thought it was pretty good for a standing coaster.

Rest of Wonderland coming up in the next post.

Part 2 of Wonderland

Silver Streak, loved this kiddie coaster. It was a nice break from all the other riding I did all day, but I think the cutest thing was in front of us, a kid maybe 6 or 7 at most, was riding with his mom, and after he got buckled in, he turns and said to his mom, "Mommy don't scared." She just grinned and said she wasn't.

Just happened to be coming from Silver Streak into Planet Snoopy and Charlie Brown and Snoopy were out.

The non amusement park part of the trip, my friend is a horse rider and she shows her horse, so she took me to the barn and I got to meet her horse Strider. This is me sitting on Strider getting ready for a walk around the ring. I won't lie. It was kind of nerve wracking. But he was a good horse for me.

Heading back to the US after a whirlwind weekend with my friend.

This concludes my Canada's Wonderland trip. I can't wait to go back and visit in a couple years

Up Next, Great Adventure report, sometime this weekend.

Great pics! I didn't know CW had such a good collection of rides. How did you like Time Warp? We have a SBNO Volare here and I must admit I didn't like it very much...

It wasn't horrible, but I'm sure I won't be jumping in line to ride it again I think once I got over my fear of the laying down thing, It wasn't so bad. But I didn't like the cage thing, If it had a Superman: Ultimate Flight type restraints, I think I would have liked it better.

  • 6 months later...

July 17th, 2010

So I kind of forgot I started doing this. What better way to beat the winter blues than make my trip reports, better late than never.

In July, I decided to go to Great Adventure. I convinced Laurie to take along with me since this was also the last weekend for the Great American Scream Machine. Yes, in all the times in years past, I had never been on GASM until it's last weekend.

And it may have been one of the hottest days ever as well. I've never spent as much money in a park for water and soda as I did that day.

Onto the pictures:

100_9664.JPG.70ffc4bbe8b067a9bb8fbe2b1ad6fec0.JPG

The sign also tells us that this is the last weekend for GASM.

Self portrait to start the day. See I'm really happy, and not at all bothered by the heat.

Sign. I'll be honest. I was kind of scared of this. I had only ridden Time Warp at Canada's Wonderland, before. But I really liked this.

This guy was utterly hilarious. We had been in line near him when Kingda Ka went down. (we had been like 3 trains away from riding). The down time started to get to him, and he started praying.

Then he was on the train before us, and it hit him what he was getting into. Starts screaming Praise Jesus. He gets lots of looks, and laughs. He goes on his ride. Comes back shouting OMG the thing ever, thank god.

He saw us as we were walking towards El Toro, and said to us "praise the lord for an awesome ride on Ka."

He's the type of guy, that was just genuinely having fun at the park.

Finally I had gotten the Dark Knight credit. Slightly underwhelming, but it was the people who made it worth it. The two guys in our car, were all like, oh this is a wild mouse, it's crap, and talking tough. The noises that came from them after it whipped around one of the turns, was worth the wait in line.

Last but not least, I bring you my "love" bruises from Kingda Ka. Being short, I tend to hold my arms a little differently on the ride. And it kicked my ass. But I'd still ride it in a heartbeat.

Sometime within the next couple weeks I hope to get up Lakemont, and Delgrossos, then Hershey.

August 13-14, 2010

Next up we have the trip that almost didn't happen. The weekend before this trip happened my grandmother passed away, and the funeral was the following week. I had all intentions of not going on this trip, when my parents insisted, I go get away, and to be with a friend.

Was I an emotional wreck that weekend, yes. Am I kind of emotional now thinking about this trip and it's really the first time I've looked at the photos since then. But I had did have fun, driving around Altoona, and eating good food and riding rides. My parents were right, I needed this trip more than I had realized at the time.

Ok, enough with the sappy crap, time for the pictures. First up this entry is Lakemont:

100_0072.JPG.a6d52511b418914cf4abe6847530d45f.JPG

Stayed at the Motel 6 in the area. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't fantastic either. It smelled like smoke for a smoke free room.

Said breakfast. Quite tasty.

Sign! Made it. The road the park is off of was under construction. Missed the entrance twice, almost ended up at the ball park parking lot, but I found the right one to turn into.

Skyliner. I actually liked this. It didn't feel that rough, when riding in the morning. It also felt like it wasn't going to make it around the whole track either. But the afternoon, it was a whole different ride.

100_0120.JPG.b530429fe08de2b4a63cc6d1efeba23c.JPG

Nope. Closed for maintenance. *tear* Yes, I like these rides. It was my first coaster at 5 years old. And yes, I'm aware it beats your brains around bashes your back like no other. But it's still a version of my first coaster.

Random old train car? It was sitting there near the train ride. Though it looks like old coaster cars too.

The randomly cute guys who were the train drivers, and probably way too many years too young for me.

Last but not least at Lakemont, we have me attempting the kiddie playground equipment. As it stands, Equipment 1, Me 0.

You didn't miss it. I started it this summer, then I got busy, and realized I never resized the pictures for a trip report. Then I noticed I never kept up with this. So I brought it back up from the dead and am trying to get all my stuff up from last year so it'll be good to go this year

And yes, he sat on a plastic lawn chair.

So I'm bringing back this thread. I posted about it in the Coasting for Kids thread. I figured people might want some visual incentives. So here are some teasers for you.

^Correct!

Ok, here is the Delgrosso's report! This is from August 2010. Back in 2010 Laurie and I did Lakemont and Delgrosso's in the same day as they are only a few miles apart.

Water Park. It's not huge, but I think it's definitely fitting of the area. And even though it was overcast by the time we got there. It was still busy.

Quite possibly the best sloppy joe I've ever had. And their pasta sauce is amazing as well.

Spinning dragons. Didn't ride, but they were colorful and cute.

100_0239.JPG.91ee00230030dc365bce727abad7aae7.JPG

Crazy Mouse. My first spinning coaster. Wasn't a huge fan of it since I had to drive after riding it. But it wasn't horrible.

100_0245.JPG.8393c3e7b8ee3ba88d012ddfcbe0560f.JPG

Drop tower ride. The view was cool, but it messed up my neck while riding.

Train Ride. Nice relaxing break from walking around.

Last but not least, my prizes I won while I went skeeball crazy.

So there you have it Delgrosso's Amusement Park.

Remember if you want to see Hersheypark from 2010, TPR NE Trip 2011, (Knoebels x3), Dutch Wonderland, Great Adventure from 2011, and reports from earlier years donate to my coasting for kids page!
