Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

I've heard rumblings about B&M working on a prototype coaster.... maybe that's what we are getting.

Whatever it is, please have high capacity.

Come to think of it, Canada’s Wonderland did prototype B&M’s 2nd-gen Hyper train, and obviously their Giga Coaster as well, so I could totally see some new B&M contraption here... like a launched version of Banshee.

I can’t believe Volcano opened 20 years ago and is still the only complete-circuit launched inverted coaster.

Well, we can be pretty certain that if they DO build a B&M, it will have good capacity; it's mostly a given with B&M. Something completely new from B&M could be nifty, but I'll still be very happy if it's an invert. I've got this feeling of... not exactly dread... that it'll be a Dive Coaster. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm sure if it is that I'll enjoy it, but something more fast and more furious would be very welcome.

Predictions in order of likelihood:

 

1) B&M Invert - meets the air/bird theme, majorly improves upon the terrible SLC, could see something similar to Banshee.

 

2) B&M Flyer - air/bird theme, improves upon Spine Warp, see something similar to Tatsu/Flying Dinosaur.

 

3) B&M Wing - air/bird theme, first Wing coaster in Canada, BUT this tunnel would have to be huge to accommodate the width of the ride/trains.

 

4) B&M Floorless - meets the "we need a good looping coaster" criteria, first Floorless coaster in Canada.

Forgot to mention a B&M Dive coaster. It would be the first Dive Coaster in Canada, fits the looping criteria, and unless the construction area expands, it would fit nicely in the area.

Would still like to see a B&M prototype and/or some sort of existing model that breaks records. Exciting times!

∆Yeah, but a huge coaster over 200ft would not look good in the area, there are already two coasters with amazing drops. As I said before a low coaster that interacts with the surroundings would fit well not only by looking good, but also by being intense like Maverick. As so I would like to see perhaps a launch coaster design, but it would need good capacity/reliability.

I am really, really, really curious as to why construction is starting in January, 2018 for a coaster opening May, 2019... Valravn started in October, 2015 to open in May, 2016. This is really strange.

I'm having a hard time making out details on the pictures, what are you seeing that shows where the lift hill is going? Also how confident can you be about that proposed layout? Is that just guesstimation on your part, or is there concrete evidence I'm not picking up on?

Either way, thanks for the updates! I keep checking back everyday (usually more than once) for them.

Oh I have no idea about the layout but today it was obvious where station is and lift hill footer is. It appears to have a typical insert for the lift support beam to go down into and is very close to where theyre putting the station

Yeah, looks like a dive to me unfortunately. But there has got to be something special about it, otherwise why would they start construction so early if it was just a basic dive.

It could possibly be some kind of small scale or junior coaster, since they started to late.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. Most of tht layout looked plausible, so I imagined there could be something hinting at it. I'm hoping that whatever it is ends up occupying a bit more space.

I can easily imagine a Dive Machine there, but like you, I hope it's something else. I won't be too picky in the end, as it would have to be a pretty bad coaster not to enhance the park.

Sorry I have nothing else to contribute at this time. Other than I am really looking forward to whatever this is going to be. At least we have SVen to tie us over until this beauty opens 8)

You can see some footers poured, you can see the rebar metal that they turn into footers being assembled, you can see a crap ton of land prep and digging all over. They appear to be moving in between Vortex and Timber Wolf Falls now with tree removal and digging. There were also a couple of holes in between the river and Minebusters Queline.

I’m surprised they’ve removed that much track from Vortex. Without context you would think the ride is being torn out.

The yellow excavator is piling down, likely to bedrock, to support a heavy load (lift hill?) They are not simple footers, usually dug out, that can hold a section of track. Of course, if the soil is weak, they might have to pile the whole coaster. Nice shots!

If you could get the company name (such as Anchor Shoring) not brand (like CAT or John Deere) of those excavators or even pickup trucks, I might be able to get some info. I work in the trade here in Ontario. PM me.

Banshee construction started before the season as well, correct?

Also, they couldve started early so that vortex can be open by seasons start, instead of having to close the ride early for construction come September/October.

It appears we missed a little detail of tunnel/ trench areas (plural).

What are the odds this will finally be the coaster they use the name 'Centurion' for? Or maybe 'Ziz'?

Centurion doesn't make sense to me... there is no Roman theme in the park.... and CW has been all about Canadiana theming lately. My bet is something Canadiana.... or mythical... or both

But mythical isn't exactly Canadian either.

Call it "Bacon" and that'll be "Canadian" enough for me, lol!

If they are going full Canadian: "Oh I'm sorry eh - the ride".

That should also work for a german theme now that I think of it.

Not sure why people don't like the idea of the name "Ziz". Whether it sounds right or not, it is the name that makes the most sense in the completion of the set for "Leviathan and Behemoth". We have the kings of the land and sea, Ziz, if it is so named, will be the king of the air and complete the trio. Why else would you name the first two as such to leave out the last?

We had this same debate 3 years ago, if you want to see why people don't like ziz it's around page 620.
