  1. I can understand feeling a certain amount of trepidation regarding CGA's Winterfest announcement. Upon reading the first press release I was a bit skeptical myself, but after speaking with some of the CGA employees, I am not worried at all. CedarFair is throwing a ton of support behind this event. This is not an event that is being rolled out a little bit at a time. They are going big the very first year. While I really do not want to be looking forward to December quite yet, I am actually really really looking forward to Winterfest.. And not just be cause of the wonderful video I am going to get of my husband falling on his ass while trying to Iceskate on the reflecting pool in front of the carousel.

  3. Thank you Flagg O'Dim for the media day report. I would agree that Roger, Ryan and Clayton really did a fantastic job Many congratulations to the entire CGA team on a terrific new ride, and a celebration worthy not only of the ride itself, but all of the hard work that went into reaching this point.
  4. Shouldn't you be thanking CGA? They are the ones who put on this fantastic event and were kind enough to invite TPR. Not tomention giving you the honor of being in the first train.
  5. It was an absolutely beautiful day at the park today. CGA did a wonderful job decorating for Memorial day, I would post a photo but my quick little cell phone snap shot did not do it justice. I especially liked the balloons. The military family promotion is really cool too. If you are going to the park tomorrow or Monday I would suggest that you get there before it opens as I heard that they are doing something special for the holiday weekend. Goldstriker is still in the status of it will open when it can open. The team at CGA wants this ride to be open even worse than we do. I did find something interesting on one of the support structures of Flight Deck this afternoon. I am really hoping that this time TPR does not stand for Theme Park Review.
  6. Finally someone says what I have been thinking the whole time. Again I am excited about the coaster but asking the park every 5 minutes is not going to get the ride open any faster.
  7. I'm not sure if it is sad or funny how so many people seem to think that the park wants to put up all the sound walls. There is a possibility that I am wrong about this but I suspect that they would really prefer not to have to go to these efforts. After all this extra sound mitigation has got to be costly, not to mention delaying their ability to move forward with their grand opening. While like everybody else I want the ride to be open NOW, I am confident that we will all hear the huge media blast when they announce the opening day. CGA has not been shy in the marketing lately. Actually it has been really cool seeing and hearing all the marketing they have been doing lately. Very well done. I was at the park today and I have to say that mid week park days before school is out, are rather freaking awesome!
  8. Excellent ! I am so glad to see that you are coming back and participating this year. I really wish we could get more participants at the CGA event this year, not only because it is is a great cause. But also to show our support for a park that has been really supportive of the coaster community the last 8-12 months. Got you and your friend covered! Have fun! -Jason You sir, are awesome.
  9. So I was just checking the Coasting for Kids website and it looks like there are 8 TPR members signed up so far. Is anybody else planning on signing up this year? Overall so far the turnout this year seems kind of weak compared to last year. To me this is kind of a shame considering how great of a year it was for all us enthusiasts last year at the park, and what a banner year it is going to be this year at CGA. I'm hoping that more people will sign up and or help out, both to show support for CGA as well as to help out GKTW. By the way for those of you who may not know GKTW is actually a top rated organization that is known for how well they spend every dollar that comes in . As in the vast majority directly goes to helping the kids as opposed to paying salaries.
  10. I'm sure the park is pushing hard to open Gold Striker in time for the holiday weekend. Hopefully they can pull it off with the final approvals as well as a media event. They have done such a great job with marketing lately I''m sure they won't want to miss an opportunity like this. Even if it does not open this weekend, that is okay. It is still relatively early in the season and we have all summer long to enjoy this amazing new ride. The walls do had a little bit of something to the ride that I kind of like. So the ride's got walls...from a visual standpoint, seeing it from the station, it almost looks like it's part of the theming...after all, it is gold mining! My cousin actually just asked me what the purpose of the walls and such were for, thinking it was part of the theming. It's also two-fold. It will appease the neighbors (and show that CGA is looking out for their neighbors) and it will block our view of the offices/business district just outside the walls of CGA...who wants to be reminded of the real world outside the park's gates anyway when you're in a place to escape reality? Oh, and did I say they're nice face choppers? Coming out of the 2nd turnaround (prudential/middle finger turn) that inside wall while banking feels like it's going to slice you in the face...and when hands are up, looks uncomfortably close! Honestly, having ridden it with and without the walls, the walls really don't detract from the ride experience...just more head choppers! In the end CGA has an awesome woodie and I'm ready to ride it another 50 times...as much as it will now take longer to reach my 100 mark (and from what I'm hearing, it's sounding like it *could* open next weekend.)
  11. I am as anxious as everybody else for this fantastic ride to open. Yet at the same time I am glad that CGA is doing what they can to appease the neighbors, I just hope all of this additional noise mitigation is not causing them to go into cost overruns. I suspect the neighbors will always be somewhat whiny when it comes to noise yet I'm hoping that if CGA can prove to them that the noise can be managed that perhaps they will be less resistant to future new rides. It may not be much of a hope, but there has to be a couple of reasonable business people in the area.
  12. Great job Angry_gum ball and Jeffy on all the updates and beautiful photos from yesterdays event. It is exciting to see all the work and love that CGA is receiving. This is going to be the best season yet.
  13. Hi Jeffy, That's cause we flew it after all the TPR and ACE'rs had left the event. CGA timed it perfectly for when the carpenters were at lunch as well.
  14. Thank you Silperez for the TR regarding Fright Fest. I had been wondering how Fright Fest was this year. I admit to having been a little disapointed last year and was really hoping that they had made some improvements.
  15. Had so much fun hanging out with everybody during Coasting for Kids, can't help but thinking that a Haunt meetup would be a blast.
