  1. May 1990. Holy cow. So grateful I experienced that (over a 2 day ACE Spring Con). Throw in Texas Giant and Timberwolf in that group. No tight-seated, rag-dolling RMC could ever come close. My rides on Ga Cyclone in March 1994 were great too, but the ride had already been resculpted in a few places. Wow...Great times....I had been interested in coasters since the late sixties and that late weekend in March of 1990 just so happened to be visiting my sister in college. Didn't even know the Georgia Cyclone even existed let alone opening that weekend. I had the chance to ride a great wooden coaster and also that was my first introduction to ACE....
  2. That classic 12-30 year old demographic that likes to come on here and misinform people about coasters. Not a broad generalization at all! Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk Didn't mean it to sound quite like that... What I meant was that as you get older, your body isn't quite as tolerant of shuffling or getting banged around on a coaster. A lot of folks within that 12-30 age group will usually defend any ride that older enthusiasts say is rough by saying it isn't...because their bodies can usually endure more of an ass-kicking than someone that's older. I'm not speaking for Robb or every coaster enthusiast over the age of 40 as everyone's idea of "rough" is different. Nor would I say that EVERY person between 12-30 isn't going to encounter a coaster that doesn't kick their a$$ at some point. I wouldn't hesitate to give Mine Blower a whirl to see what I personally think of it...it certainly is a very interesting looking coaster. But I'd probably bring the Excedrin along with me as a back-up, just in case. And yes...getting older definitely sucks! This is so real...I remember riding the Coney Island and Riverside Cyclone in the back seat more than ten times on the same trip in the early 90's. Now, you can't pay me to ride the Coney Island Cyclone in any seat. For the young please value this time and enjoy yourself. I'm in great shape and look many years below my age. However, if taken out of my comfort zone age rears its ugly head. I just can't ride them and feel great like I use to.
  3. I honestly don't know what everyone is talking about here . I've ridden this ride probably twice a visit every visit for the past 15 years and have never felt any of these crazy forces. Typically I don't even hold on and just BS with my friends while we race. To each their own. I have also never seen anyone fall off a horse. Did you ride it in 1969 or early 70's? Nope! Wasn't even born yet! First visit to the park was in 1998. Which is irrelevant to how it runs now. It does not run fast enough to nearly throw people off. Well...You are wrong being I was one of those people who was nearly thrown off. If it would have ran for another 15 seconds or so I would have been a statistic. One thing I've noticed when watching the rye one is people lean to the side. I'm quite sure I didn't at a very young age.

  5. I never shared this with anyone but I rode Cedar Downs back in the day when it resembled the speed of the one at Rye and it scared the living crap out of me. I literally thought I was about to die. I WAS hanging on for dear life from the side of the horse and I believe to this day the ride operator stopped the ride because he knew I was about to scrub out. I haven't rode since but the next time I visit the point I will ride it again.....
  6. Anybody else ridden The Voyage at night? Personally my absolute favorite night rides on any coaster. First year at night in the rain. My wife got off crying and haven't rode a roller coaster since. I felt really bad....I didn't know it would be like that....It was a ride that is unexplainable.
  7. Through Feb. 11 Dubai parks is offering a deal where one can enter all three parks for the price of one. Those three parks are Bollywood, Motiongate and Lego Land....I believe the price is 295 dirhams which is around 80 dollars give or take a few...
  8. Summers are a significant issue, especially since they are expected to only get hotter. However, other issues which one might find pressing: -Limited availability of alcohol. Booze is expensive out there and must be found in "hotels". Anyone who has been knows that there are several places with small numbers of rooms which exist for little reason other than to sell beer/wine/liquor. -Ramadan. Expats leave en masse during it, as eating food in public is illegal most waking hours and temps rise to 120F+. -It's still a socially restrictive society towards members of the LGBT community with prison terms being possible They simply can't be all the things Orlando is without significant change to their society. That is one of the problems in the world. Instead of being who they are they often try to emulate something they are not and fail. Actually, in regards to booze one can have their own liquor license but is required to consume it at their home....Ramadan moves yearly and it will eventually span the whole twelve months but it is true during that time many people including the local Emiratis leave the area. Last year Ferrari World was creative. During the weekends they had free admission at stayed opened until midnight. Many laws are on the books because it is a Muslim country but they are not enforced. I've seem some of the prettiest prostitutes and call girls in the world and it is obvious that is what they do. Also, I've seen many couples of the LGBT community and all facets being represented to the fullest. Regardless of sexual preference slobbing someone down in public is frowned upon, but the act of hugging and kissing I've done and seen countless times. What I've found over here for the past three years if one minds their own business no one really cares. The next several years will be the telling story of where they are headed in regards to tourist. They will be pouring billions of dollars into marketing this area. If they can't lure people over here in masses by 2021 the private theme parks will be in financial trouble and will require government subsidies to bail them out. They are in the 1st faze of building a hyperloop created by Elon Musk. This will get passengers from Dubai to Abu Dhabi and vice versa in less than 15 minutes. This will help in regards to having access to theme parks in both cities....Technology over here is insane....
  9. Quick background: the UAE exists as it does because it exports most of its oil to India and has since it was discovered. It is a resort area for India, but has to compete with the existing places within that country as well as Thailand and Malaysia (in addition to India's middle class being a small margin). Saudi Arabia is an obvious place from which to draw visitors because they are free to enter the UAE and have such deeply restrictive policies that the UAE acts as a comparatively open and free society. However, it has a smaller population than California over 5x the space. 1/3 of that population consists of foreign nationals who are generally paid next to nothing and live in work camps. It's largest population centers are large distances away, requiring air travel. The water parks get better attendance (surprise), but crowds are easily dealt with on any day that isn't Friday. Friday is basically the Middle East's Sunday, and people come into the UAE in droves to have fun, get drunk, etc. Are the parks generally empty? Yeah. Are they gonna hit lofty 5-6 million attendance figures any time soon? There's only 11 million or so people entering the UAE for any reason, so no, absolutely not. Are parks being build there because they get sweetheart licensing deals? Yeah. But that's nothing new. Disney doesn't own the majority of any of its Asian parks. Neither does Universal of the Singapore park. To expound the UAE is about 5th the size of California with a population of about 4th its size. Eighty(80) percent are expats with the majority of them coming from India, Pakistan and Philippines. Those groups of people represent the majority of laborers, taxi drivers and service workers. Their salaries range from 250 to 1200 dollars a month. They either live in labor camps or their housing is subsidized or paid for by the employer. Teachers and other professions make considerable much more money and their housing is either subsidized or paid for by employers but the living conditions are equivalent to upper middle class living in the US. For the parks to hit the 5 - 6 millions attendance mark they need to drastically discount tickets for locals. They have something called Global Village that draws more than 5 million visitors annually but the tickets are about 4 dollars for entry. The Dubai Mall is the most visited building in the world annually and last year it drew over 90 million visitors. Ferrari World which is located in Abu Dhabi has broken the one million mark the last couple of years. The UAE is on a mission to create a major tourist destination and by 2020 they plan to have many things in place because of the World Expo. The country as a whole is sitting on about 800 billion dollars in their wealth fund so they can throw money at projects as well as subsidize them as they grow in attendance. However, the summers are a major problem. I don't know if they can solve the riddle of how do one enjoy the outside in 115 degree temperatures with 90 percent humidity.
  10. Aside from the many people at DW that DO complain about them, they are literally up there by the hundreds and sometimes thousands. The species of wasps that shut the rides down also is not local to the area. They are in a migration pattern from the New England area headed towards the gulf and Texas, travelling along the smokies. This is important because guests may not know if they are allergic and if they get stung we may not be able to get them off the ride quickly enough before an allergic reaction occurs. Shutting down before someone gets the chance to get stung is always the better option. Also, should a ride have an error and stop on the lift and need evacution the situation is instantly much more severe. I'm not saying you are wrong but I have never heard of a migrating wasp being I studied them in college and was taught they do not migrate. Could you please find the source and post it. I'm curious and I've been searching for the last three hours and can't find anything. Thanks... He works at the park haha. I do know from personal experience of going years and years that Dollywood usual gets them mostly around this time of year the worst. We take trips around my birthday and Thunderhead used to always go down. Wild Eagle is another one that has problems. The hotter the days the worse they are. I wasn't questioning the wasp but the migration aspect....Wasp can be a major problem and a headache to deal with. The only time I would fool with them was at night which would sometimes take weeks to get rid of. Running into a nest of them could be quite dangerous being they can sting one repeatedly.

  12. LOL...Don't take it personally. I remember back on July 16th leaving Cedar point very early in the morning sitting in the parking lot was a truck with B&M parts for the coaster. My wife isn't even into coasters and she made the comment about me taking a picture. I didn't of course but posted the news here. I got killed...So, I learned my lesson. I'm working in Abu Dhabi now so when they were building the coaster at Ferrari World I posted a couple of times with bunches of pictures. This group of people is hard to please....LOLOL....In this case time will be the proof if this is true or not and unless you go out there and take all kinds of pictures morning, noon and night from all different angles you will have skeptics...
  13. The Voyage 1st year no lights at night in the rain. I thought I had gone to heaven. My wife on the other hand thought she had entered hell. Have not been on a roller coaster since.
  14. My Lord...People are now defending false advertisement. False advertising is any published claim that is deceptive or untruthful. DW can do either of the two. Pull the commercial or replace it. It is as simple as that. I've bought ads for radio and tv and cut the the slot. It is very simple to replace a commercial especially a few days out.
