i don't think that just the height makes a coaster a good coaster. There are alot of coasters out there that don't hold any records or are close to records but are a lot of fun to ride. And are rerideable! That's one of the biggest goals i guess, build a coaster the rider wants to ride over and over again. But in my opinion the record breakers were needed as icons of themeparks. Which coasters are in the mass media? Only the ones being tall or fast or recordish otherwise. And therefore those coasters are fun to ride for alot of us enthusiasts for their uniqueness in one part, but are a big draw for the general public. It's not the "most fun" coasters you are asked about by your typical friends, it's the record holders/breakers.

Well the chairs are not overturning the arrow, they just swing. But the riders are inverted by the seats rotating themselves. There are motors attached to the end of the holding lines that rotate the whole gondola and invert it. And if you think of the most part of the visible supports in the pictures are cables for the motors and the lights, you can think of how thin the supporting steel cables are. I'm not sure if it's another prototype of the austrian company funtime, but i've never seen a ride like that, so i thought i'd share. Basically it's a swingride, but due to the suspension being excentered itself the "gondola" performs a strange curve. The four across seats are hung up on steel wires and are also rotating via mounted motors - no free rotation. Guess the operator can choose different ride programs here. All in all the ride looks fun and according to the screams of the riders it should be. I didn't ride it today, so i can't tell any further on the ride experience by now. On to some photos... And as TPR seems to like boobs shown in parks i'll end this post with this picture - greetings from Austria I liked this shot - somehow reminds me of the stephen king movie with the clown, which name i can't remember now. Hi Gus, i'm from vienna so Prater park is my homepark. You are talking about very limited time - what does that mean in hours? Prater is a park with rides operated by many different companies. So it's a pay per ride park. Some rides not to miss are in my opinion the big giant wheel (built 1897; also one landmark of vienna), the Hochschaubahn (a rather lame but unique coaster, i think it's a listed ace classic coaster), spnning wild mouse, megablitz coaster (best one in the park in my opinion), the bell ride (only one in the world, prototype ride), starflyer, some darkrides, etc ... It all depends on your favorite type of rides, but you can walk around the whole park in - i would say - one hour (without riding anything). And most of the rides shoud have none to short lines. Only of there's some local event attendance and ridelines can get very busy. Rides can change very quickly in this park, because each parcel is operated by different owners. So if they don't make any more money out of one ride they get a different one. Or they rent the parcels to others, placing moveable carnival rides in. I can remember alot of rides that were in the park and are gone now. Some are missed, some are not. But one thing i know for sure is, that the Auto Bergbahn is there since at least 25 years, because i rode it as a kid ... long time, seems like i'm getting old

Posting some random photos from my trip on 2006-05-27. The park is located in the middle of Vienna, Austria. It is a pay-per-ride-park since each ride belongs to different owners. Therefore it can get quite expensive visiting the park if you want to ride each and everything. Ah yes, and since this site is sort of coaster related - Prater has 7 or maybe 8 credits - you decide. One of the best ways to end a trip to Prater - a few beers at the "Schweizerhaus" And one more classic ride- the merry-go-round. If i remember correctly it has about 6 HP. Classic steamtrain running through the big park-part of the Prater. Ten seconds after this shot they were fighting for the best spot to sell their balloons. I swear. Random shot of horses. Adults should ride the left ones. Is there another boomerang out there with a tunnel? See - no engine in the cars I wonder if this counts as a rollercoaster. If 50% of you vote for yes my coastercount would increase. It has a lifthill and cars travelling down a track by gravitation only. Even flatrides are themed to Mozart these days (250th Birthday) A monkey on the back and piranhas on the loincloth, glad it's not me Random kiddieride. Under special guidance by Super Mario. Skyline of thrills. Bungee Ball (partly), Starflyer and Boomerang No vertical loop in this report, so i thought i should at least add a lifthill photo. The guy in the last row is the brakesman. ACE coaster classic - the "Hochschaubahn". A classic side friction coaster. Newest attraction - the bell. Fun ride, much like a frisbee with much smaller rotating part and therefor not that forcefull. But it was fun to ride. Classic kiddieride, the "Meckybahn", themed to hedgehogs. And as you can see in the top, drinking in public is allowed in austria. Coastershot. If you look closely you can find the train. Maybe. Another spinning flatride. Way to much overheadspinning for me. Darkride (walkthrough) themed to dinosaurs. Nothing Disney-like but well done. Random spinning flatride Being 18+ you have two choices: a. either invest your money for rides or b. put it into coinmachines EPCOT meets Prater, seems like they are offering guided tours on segways The mascot of the Prater, called Praterwurschtl, sitting on a giant "Punschkrapferl" (in fact it is an atm) Landmark of Vienna, the classic giant wheel built in 1897

The best thing about starflyer in the first days was, that there was ONE seat which could spin. On my first ride my girlfriend took this one by chance and during our whole ride i tried to spin my chair like she did ... unfortunately that one was just probably just for testing. Even the ride-operators didn't know anything more about it. I think starflyer would be even more fun with the seats to be spinnable. Glad you had fun in Prater.

Talking about the ferris-wheel in vidampark i have to say that this really was the scariest i have ever been on. And also the logflume was one of the strangest ones i have been on - disgusting dirty water, but a funny jump over a ramp after the big drop. looking forward to your photos of my homepark ...

I would also appreciate to not allow signature-files above a certain filesize. Sometimes it can be kind of painful downloading a signature of 500KB or more. At least to me it is.

Nice video about the Wiener Prater. And it would have even been better writing the city correct in the videotitle .... Wein = wine Wien = vienna And one other off topic question - are Rammstein still wellknown and popular although singing german lyrics?
